Chun Li General Thread: Blue Jade

Hopefully they just base their season 2.5 changes off character usage stats and character win rates. Chun’s bottom 6 in usage and has the 2nd worst win ratio online for Jan 2017. Not to mention Humanbomb and MOV been saying she’s very hard to win with now.

I dont play too much, maybe 5-10 matches per day. So far in season 2 i fought two FANGs and two Chuns, there’s your tier list i guess, lol. Ok i think i went too far, but anyway 2 Chun mirror matches in almost 2 months now, exodus is real.

Its funny though, I rarely fought other Chun’s in season 1.
Now it’s even rarer really.

With Topanga going on game record results
Go1 is currently 3-5
Nuki 2-9
MOV 3-5

If Capcom takes a serious look at Chun in season 2 with the ever cryptic "Considering some adjustments"
They’ll see they nerfed her too much.
Go1, Nuki and MOV were strong season 1 Chun players. I’m betting Ricki will get bodied

In season 2 online replays HumanBomb, Etanim and Iansanity are the best Chun’s I’m seeing
At least in terms of the play style I prefer which is spacing harassment and RTSD

Ok i know some of you have said your thoughts about this but with the upcoming patch next month what do you guys want for chun li? I hope they mostly buff the lower class and not heavily nerf other characters again

I would enjoy more pressure with fireballs. I dont understand fighting game mechanics too much but i know i enjoy using Chuns firebals and im always trying to incorporate them im my gameplan whether trough pressure in neutral or in combos.

Give back her s1 fireball, s1 j. Mk, s1 iaLL hitbox and reduce the pushback on her lights. Give back S1 airthrow too, it wasn’t even abused in S1.

I’d like 3f jab back too obviously but I doubt that’s coming back.

Bonus: make df roundhouse and vskill actually useful.

I don’t think they’ll give Chun any meaningful buffs but since we can dream i want her c.MK to be +2 on block like Urien’s, her b+HP to have an extended hitbox that ground crush counters and allows us to dash up and combo after CC, and both her super and EX legs to finish on a updward kick that launches the opponents upward and is jump cancelable so she can do bullshit mix-ups like 3rd Strike Chun could.

…Don’t think i’m asking for much =)

I would like her air legs to be +1 or +2 on block, or just her 3 frame jab back. I am fine with one of those, but i dont think we will get the air legs to be + on block ever again.

I…told…you…guys…so…

Just fuckin’ with ya.

Yep, Chun is overnerfed. No shit, right? I don’t mean to be an “I told you so” but…I fucking told you so. Not to you guys, but to Capcom. This is how you fix Chun for Season 2.5 to be BALANCED!!!..but what do I know, I’ve only been playing fighting games at a tournament level for 28 years…

  • Fireball game - leave it as it is now. It deserved to be nerfed. Chun isn’t supposed to be a FB type character. Honestly, if anything, it should be worse. She is supposed to be a great buttons, great speed, control ground game character. Not a FB zoner. So that makes sense. But that weird, this move is 4f delay on canceling, and this one isn’t bullshit has got to go.

  • IALL - All versions - Even (or -1) on block, +3 on hit. No reason why this should be minus on block when you have Urien’s EX tackle even that is 7f and covers the entire length of the screen (literally not reactable due to the 6.5f lag) and Dhalsim’s air gale which is fucking + on block (same properties as Chun’s old IALL but no one says boo).

  • s.LK - I think you guys are missing the point on why this nerf was bad, like overly bad. It is not because of the hitbox/hurtbox thing. AA jabs and shorts should be eliminated. It was some stupid ass phenomenon from A3 that happened and it needs to stop. You can’t complain about AA jabs and have one yourself. The actual problem of the s.LK nerf is the 3f to 5f, and the reason why it’s bad is because now the things you can punish on block has now been reduced by 80% due to the move being slowed by 66%. THAT IS THE REAL PROBLEM. Revert s.LK to 3f. Keep the S2 hit/hurt the same.

  • V-Trigger timer - Revert it back to S1. S2 timer is TOOOOOOOOO short. When I play against Chun’s. I don’t quick-rise on purpose. Also, when Chun does nail her target combo into SBK, that SBK takes forever to complete which times off almost half of the VT gauge itself. That’s stupid. I can see if Chun was a super powered beast, then yeah, 1VT = one combo, but not like this. It’s overnerfing at its simplest form.

That’s all I care to type right now for free. I know it might sound cool to be right all the time, but it’s not. It’s fucking exhausting…

If nothing changes from the next patch and you are still playing Chun, then you only have yourself to blame and you are part of the problem. You are still playing Chun and giving the message to Capcom that she is still viable when she isn’t. Just sayin’, kids. Vote with your time because your words mean nothing to them.

She needs retooling, but Capcom is going to see gods of Chun LI like MOV and Nuki still do work and that will most likely influence what they do.

Dosent matter how many peons stop using her, if the greats are getting results then odds are we won’t get the buffs we should regardless.

Daigo is negative 14 in Topanga and it’s still up in the air what that will do for Ryu. Ryu is in a worse situation because Daigo is about the only CPT competitive Ryu left. Whereas there are plenty of Chun Li’s who can place still left.

Overall Chun Li is still a nice counter pick tier that can do well vs characters like Gief who will give even other high tiers problems. Definitely nothing wrong with playing her on the side.

Plus if last year is any indication, being a one character specialist may not get you first place at Evo and CPT finals. Playing more than one character is starting to become more and more important

If your intent is to counter pick then there is ZERO reason to pick Chun over Guile.

He is easier, better and dominate in the matchups that she simply is favorable in. Chun is only being played by loyalists at this point. People like Nuki who would rather drop the game and not drop Chun. I don’t see Capcom giving her the tools to compete in S2 in this next patch, infact i think they will buff the lower tiers and by doing so she would drop down to that low tier level.

Nuki and MOV aren’t exactly doing work either. The results are ehh… They are mid tier results for a mid tier character. Then again results aren’t everything, Tokido is doing amazing right now but that doesn’t mean that Akuma is the best in the game. Hitani is 4-0 IIRC but that doesn’t mean that Necalli is that insanely OP.

You could pick Guile, but Guile requires work no matter how easy people make him out to play. He’s the most honest top tier and you can’t really scum wins with him. Not to mention his play style just may not fit the play style of some players. Chun Li would work well enough to cover the matchups I would need her to cover for Ibuki withour having to go for as drastic of a play style change as Guile.

There really just haven’t been enough tournaments yet to see what work MOV and Nuki will really do, but they’re off to a good start considering how bad people are making her out to be. Haitani is a good player, but he wouldn’t be getting those results in Topanga with Fang or Alex. That’s a given.

You can always think someone will do something (Capcom), but we’ll see what they actually do. I personally don’t see any reason for MOV or Nuki to drop Chun with what I’ve been seeing from them so far in videos and in tournament. If the season 2 extra patch changes give them an extra boost they might be in a pretty good spot again.

Could not be enough, but I think Capcom sees that Urien and Rog are a bit too much. I think

Um… I said all this and more and was one of the first people to be outspoken against the nerfs.

s2 chun is a real struggle. hang in there though!

You said you were gonna pick up Cammy on FB. What happened to that? LOL

@DeckAces - Is that right? Interesting…

I wrote (which is just the tip of the iceberg of my breakdowns):

Then you wrote:

You crazy! Fight the good fight!

@GoofyhanD st. LK was 4f in season 1 and even if that got reverted, it wouldn’t matter without at least the horizontal range being reverted as well (currently it has the same range as her cr. LK). In order to get the punish ability back, the range has to come back as well.

-I don’t agree with her fireball game needing to be worse. It’s one of the aspects I’ve really liked about Chun for the past decade or so in addition to her poking game (I didn’t main her in 3S and as far as I’m concerned, she didn’t have one in 3S lol). It was good in season 1, even better in SF4 and it’s still a regular part of my control game (unless your name is Balrog). I’d like that aspect to be retained if not better.

-So far up to this point, I think my struggle with her boils down to anti-airing being too inconsistent, Balrog being stupid to fight and Laura being stupid if she gets a hit. I’ve never been bothered/had a problem fighting Urien… but he doesn’t need 1025 health lol.
I’ve gotten better in general though having to come up with other ways to utilize the moveset than what I was used to. My confirms/conversions and interrupts have gotten better and I’ve done a hell of a lot more labwork to deal with specific situations and punishes, so that helps. If she gets anything to enhance either her v-skill or up close pressure, that would be great.

If we’re playing the “i told ya” game, i predicted Chun would be obliterated before even CapCup happened

And i don’t think the next balance patch will be any good either, Capcom had one year to make S2 balance changes and they fucked up, can’t imagine them doing a better job this time. They’ll probably just put invincible dps back in the game (and maybie give Guile a full invincible flash kick since he needs it kappa) and either make meaningless changes or go for another round of overbuffing and overnerfing everyone.

You’re right. I don’t know why I keep thinking that s. short was 3f. And yes, it needs its horizontal range back. I actually didn’t know that that was nerfed also. Yuck.

I think that my FB adjust fits well with the lore, if you want to stick to the history. She didn’t get a FB until Hyper, and even then the FB wasn’t good for the time. Just sayin’. NBD though.
