10 second V-skill is just so silly for a character like Chun. The damage you get out of combo extension is pathetic as it is but often times the timer runs out before I finish the combos. It just sucks all around.
I tested air legs during V-skill and unlike what Darlightjg1 said it does not seem like there is any hidden advantage about it compared to a regular air legs. Am I doing it wrong or can someone else confirm it? I have not tested on a crouching opponent yet.
The more I look at it the biggest nerf to Chun in season 2 is the jab nerf. Both the standing jab (huge push back) and the crouching one (+1 startup frame). It kills all kinds of damage opportunity for Chun.
I tested it against Cammy in training room and her crouching jab hit me every time trying to back dash after a blocked air legs. At any distance as long as she blocks it. I did it with neutral jump air legs, 236963 air legs, and V-skill air legs and the results were the same.
So that demonstrates is for V-Skill, which is great after Hoyokusen or a CC sweep hard knockdown. What about for a:
crouch-blocking
mid-screen
4F masher?
without using V-Skill (since she is +4H even without V-Skill)?
If the 4F masher is FORCED TO TRADE with a 3F cr.lk from Chun, then she is -1B. Even if she isnāt able to backdash away from 3F normals (which her hitbox implies that she can do frame perfectly, at least in the mirror match), she is still a LOT safer than if she is -2B.
If a character is -2B at close range, then they have to deal with a throw mix-up (where a throw would beat a mashed 3F normal but a light normal would catch a jump or a mash). Itās basically a close range 50/50 until jump back OS (jumptech) come into play. This -2B interaction is the reason why everyoneās throws are 5F in this game. In any case, being -1B after IALL is the difference between the opponent debating on what they want to do (where Chun has to hold her L) and the opponent having to commit to a frame-perfect decision (where Chun can occasionally get away with some shenanigans). BOTH of my consoles are currently out of commission, soā¦
plzhelpthx
She is even on block vs a crouching opponent with v-skill air legs (and -1 on block vs. a crouching opponent with regular air legs).
V-skill air legs is the same mid screen as it is in the corner.
As long as youāre -1 you can trade using cr. LK (see above for situations where you are -1 or better).
This is already covered above. Keep in mind that only applies to a crouching opponent.
Still, I wouldnāt say itās all that practical to use v-skill air legs because itās very hard to execute it at the perfect height and using a jumping normal is going to be better frame advantage anyway. Itās only moderately good for throwing off peopleās AA timing (and that doesnāt really apply if youāre trying to execute it that low imo).
People are sleeping on Ryu firstly. Anyone who thinks heās not going to see tourney representation is about to be very surprised. His buffs work in ways that people arenāt accounting for and will get him back up. Other than no throw loops which he honestly doesnāt need with his options, he looks good to go for staying mid tier or better.
There hasnāt been any real tourneys yet to talk about Chun. If Nuki and Ricki Ortiz fall off the face of the earth, then yeah sure. They wonāt though.
He most certainly needed some form of Oki after throws. Removing any Oki from his throws even in the corner is a very destructive nerf. Also only Tokido, Daigo, NL and to a lesser extent Xsk Samurai were using Ryu last year and doing well. Now the best 2 of these 4 arenāt using him so yeah, donāt see Ryu making a top 8 on his own any time soon.
I wonder why does air legs get better frame data when it is being done out of a V-skill jump, weird.
What are you guys following IALL with nowadays anyway ? I mostly just do cr.LK,cr.LP LK SBK now. I want to hit the lab and try confirming the hit on crouching character to get the old BNB, anyone here got that down ?
Heās got some new buffs that people are sleeping on and there are quite a few solid characters that donāt get pressure after throws any ways.
IALL best follow up is c.LK, s.LP, LK SBK. c.LP has shorter range and can whiff easier. Plus it would better train you to do c.LKx2, s.LP, LK SBK if theyāre crouching any way.
When I go home, Iām going to try pianoing lightning legs and see if I notice a differenceā¦doubt it though cuz I suck and wouldnāt notice these things
Link/timestamp to stream of him doing this and various other things in training. Unfortunately, I donāt understand enough Japanese to know what heās actually saying:
It was tech that made Chun strong in Season 1 and it seems like learning new stuff is what will keep her up again. I think people are used to the characters like Cammy and Necalli that basically became strong without any tech, but Chun Li is one of those characters where inevitably she has to be put together more like an anime character. There were plenty of characters that had nothing close to the combo or neutral execution Chun required.
Trying to do that on a 6-button stick is⦠really hard. There has to be virtually no break in between the slide inputs from LK to HK and then LK+MK or else the legs will come out on whiff (this is not an issue if you have 4 buttons to slide across like an 8-button stick would have). Since I only play on 6-button sticks, I might not be trying to use this often. You can still piano if your fingers are fast, but not nearly as easy as the slide input heās doing imo.
Is it really a good idea to rely on cr.LK as a counter poke in a game where this is a normal priority system like the one in SF5. Most characters would be fishing for mediums at this range anyways.
Like any tech, theory, RTSD scenarios
I want to see proof of concept with in-game/tourney application
Many people can find and share useless crap. Not saying it is useless or discrediting his Chun - much better than myself.
I just want to see if put to use thus making it actually relevant. Itās just how I personally handle these things.
This is just the idea that things are most likely going to come about. More than weāre already seeing. Looking forward to it
Sheās a lab character so if youāre not good at labbing (honestly not the best myself, usually just wait and steal stuff), might get some stuff youāre looking for. Thereās MOV specific stuff for 3S Chun and sheās arguably less complicated than 5 Chun
Now that he has this out there you can already put this to use at least and see what mileage you get. As soon as I see a tech Iām already on it. I donāt wait for X player to get top 8 with it
