Chun Li Best in the game?

^ apparently dhalsims been winning the most tournaments according to get your tournament , i think chuns lis probably top tier because of her matchups not that shes actually the strongest character in the game . I personally think that later in the development of ssf4 guile will be considered undisputable no.1

I think she is the most OP character, I main Guy and along with Balrog and Honda, the Chun match-up is pretty bad. If I see her chosen at the selection screen I just think “Ohhh, fuck.”, its gotten to the point where I actually want to learn her, and just pull her out when its necessary. Like Ortiz did at Evo.

Chun is a good character  She got what she needed. Maybe her Alpha outfit will help her in her fight against Akuma!

People shouldn’t worry as much about Tier Lists in super. This game is much more balanced than vanilla was because there is no god tier this time around. Every character has a few bad match ups they have to worry about so it’s hard to say that one character is generally “the best” when everyone loses to something.

Chun-Li should be nerfed in my opinion and I consider her Sagat tier. She has certain match ups where she is ridiculously good along with having basically no weaknesses and everything she does is a strength.

Her greatest weaknes is she hasn’t a good reversal neither a good escape move, so wake up games can become a nightmare. I play friends who like to abuse that so don tell me she has no weaknes (fuck rufus and fuck akuma).

No good reversal? Her EX reversal is high damaging and stops so much. If you try to bait it then go in late then she will grab you, air throw you, or wake up free. She is by far the best character in SSF4 and I have no respect for Chun-Li players until she is balanced with the rest of the cast.

Chun doesn’t really feel that broke in this game. I don’t know why people complain about her. She feels as she should be, to me.

you just gotta know how to treat a woman. nghuh!

EX sbk can be stuffed and safe jumped all day long, great to see somebody dont actually knows it yet (lol, my ryu friend who plays once in a moon discovered it in a few matches…).
You didnt ask yourself why people at high level block and dont Ex.sbk jump in atempts…?

Haha seriously, don’t forget that EX SBK is a charge move so you can’t mash it, plus it requires meter and you can’t FADC it to make it safe. Just learn how to time your safe jumps and even beat it clean with well timed cross-ups and dive kicks.

Now, I actually am inclined to think that Chun is a top 5 character on paper, but in practice she is a whole 'nother story since a lot of her tricks and strategies are heavily matchup specific. I have enough trouble trying to learn how to use her situational normals, but now I also have to learn all of the nuances in each of her matchups with the rest of the cast.

Yes, she is the best in the game and she needs to be nerfed IMO.

She’s not really that different than she was in vanilla.

Doesn’t Zang get a free ultra off of EX SBK though?

True, BUT:

Her df+LK had its properties changed, so it’s a pretty godlike anti-air now.
Ultra 2 changes a lot of Chun’s bad matchups, plus it juggles after anti-air/counter-hit df+LK.

For Chun all it took was some small changes like that.

Also, regarding the tier lists indicating which characters are winning tournaments, that is blatantly untrue. I hardly ever saw Sagat players winning tournaments back in Vanilla, and he was at the top of the tier list from day one.

The tier lists address each character’s matchup against every other character, considering their entire set of tools, and assuming equal skill level from both players. It is not necessarily an indication of which character does well in tournaments.

Chun isn’t the best in the game, I don’t see how anyone could think that way.
IMO ssfiv Chun is worse overall than sfiv Chun, the only thing she has that is better than what sfiv Chun had is df+lk which is a great move.
Chun’s u2 doesn’t add anything to her game, it doesn’t do enough damage to scare anyone to desperately avoid it, and it doesn’t give her any new abilities she didn’t already have.
Another thing that I dislike about u2 is that it sends them fullscreen away from Chun afterwards with no possibility of applying pressure after that.
I’d rather learn to combo u1 from her regular legs than to use u2 in most matchups, u1 is much scarier to play against than u2 when the Chun player has good reactions.

Her matchups should look almost exactly the same since vanilla aside from those where the other character got a significant change like Sagat for example.
Akuma still gets to rape her pretty much for free, even though I’ve figured out a nifty defensive option select to use against him It’s hardly enough to justify the matchup being 4-6 now when it was clearly one of the worst of ALL matchups in vanilla. Viper feels like it’d actually be worse than vanilla due to Chun getting damage nerfs while Viper is roughly the same.
Blanka might actually be worse than in vanilla due to him getting buffed normals and not getting any nerfs, so if it wasn’t a 4-6 before it’s definitely a 4-6 now.
Rufus is definitely a bad matchup now because of his u2, in vanilla you could keep him out with fireballs until you got a chance to rush him down.
Now when you lose that rushdown pressure you can’t really go back to keeping him out because by rushing him down you also gave him u2 to counter your kikouken keepout.

Considering there are characters like Boxer who was already thought to be above Chun in vanilla who not only didn’t get nerfed, but his worst matchups DID get nerfed.
There’s also Honda who is extremely strong in this game because of the same reasons, nobody can deal damage as safely as Honda can c.lp x hhs, st.hk/super is crazy damage from a normal that is as good as his c.lp.
On the topic of Honda, that’s definitely not a 7-3 matchup for Chun, against a Honda who knows what he’s doing you won’t be able to anti-air him consistently at all, and when honda lands one hit you’re going to eat around 450dmg.
It is clearly a matchup in Chun’s favour, but it is not as dominant as it was in vanilla.

In the end Chun is a stable character, aside from her matchup against Akuma she can’t get counterpicked that hard, she’s good for tournaments but hardly as dominant as that crappy tierlist makes her out to be.

I’m in agreement here, I don’t think Chun is the best in the game. I think she’s well-equipped to handle (almost) every situation in the game, but her damage output is relatively low.

In fact, I hope she gets knocked out of the top spot so people on PSN can stop PMing me saying I’m a tier whore when I’ve been playing Chun since Vanilla. -.-

i started crying laughing half through your post, but i just had to log in and say this, omg im still laughing. you are my hero and the funniest dude on srk.

tiger props!

My point of that post was more to that guy who said to nerf Chun-Li. Any real nerfing would have had to have been done to her vanilla version if she’s so troublesome.

If you mean his Ultra 2, yes, but he has to anticipate or bait it and buffer the motion. On block or purely on reaction without buffering, it’s not possible - the Ultra will come out too late and Chun will already be grounded again.

If you mean Ultra 1, TECHNICALLY there is a very very small window right at the startup of EX SBK where Chun is not invincible but is still considered grounded, so she can be grabbed out of it by Gief’s Ultra 1, but I saw that in Vanilla so I don’t know if that’s still possible.
