Not at all, I just been sitting on this for a minute now, and just wanna share it with other people who may not know or ever wanted to read it.
akira vol 1 was so good i thought that was it when i first read it. then i was like 5 MORE CHAPTERS?!?!
maybe not story wise…but animation wise it was lightyears ahead of the game.
This movie was decent. Idk about it being godlike. The way i saw it… Andrew couldn’t get laid and then went on a tantrum. I really don’t get how he suddenly just started to hate everyone after that incident. If anything, he would have flipped out on Steve earlier for trying to get him into the talent show.
Saw it. Amazing performances. Seriously, the acting here is su-fucking-perb. Every character was realistic, believable… except maybe the dad. He seemed a little contrived to fit his particular necessary plot point. Otherwise, great film. Highly recommended. Feels longer than its 80-ish minute run time suggests.
Re: similarities to Akira: I don’t see it, either in quality (Chronicle is way better) or plot.

I still haven’t seen the level of detail Akira has in a lot of anime today. It’s unreal the time and effort they put into everything.

If you haven’t seen this, it may interest you. Especially the detail of Neo-Tokyo. It blew my mind when I found this out for the first time.

Yeah, there wasn’t. Because that’s not what the movie was about. And again, if you can’t realize why they chose to leave out that explanation, then you’ve missed the point of the movie.
I thought the same but in reality that was just another thing on top of all the crap that was pushing him ever closer to the edge.
The bully, his father, his mother’s health, throwing up, it ALL contributed to him cracking and the realization that he had the power to do something about it (vent or what have you) was the kicker. I can bully the bully, I can tell my father to shove it forcefully, I can steal more money, etc. It was all pretty organically done, I felt pretty sorry for the kid when it was all said and done.
The POV changing from one type of camera to another on that last action bit was a great touch imo.
to be honest, that pink haired girl was pretty ugly.

I didn’t like the movie…the idea was great, but I’m so tired of ‘hand cam’ movies…it turned me off immediatly. The main character ‘swap’ towards the end was dislikening also…shrug I like that they actually didn’t explain it all though.

act 3 from hospital on was pretty akira copy n paste. but didnt take away from the movie…i think it had some of the most creative shots in a action/adventure movie ive seen in the past few years. my friend told me the director just turned 27 so it makes sense, alot of new energy in this film. i really enjoyed it, my mom did too. she was interested in seeing a sequal if its plausible.
MAAAAAN. I thought that broad was a dude. No fucking joke. I thought the joke was going to be that she was a ladyboy and he was about to get some DICK ON DICK action. Ends up just being some ugly and old ass looking ‘teenager’.
