I think 16 is the magic number because at that age most girls are already fully developed.
There aren’t any notable differences in appearance between a 16 year old girl and a 18 year old girl anyways and if at 16 your compotent enough to get a license then you should be compotent enough to fuck.

I wouldn’t say higher age restrictions are an issue, it just has more to do with conservative or religiously-conservative upbringings. Add that with lack of sex-education and ignorance due to the “My son/daughter is too sweet and pure to have sex!” idealistic mentality, and you got some of the most pregnant and/or promiscuous youth around. Too much denial and repression creates some nasty results.
Oh and besides, it’s not like 13 and 14 kids can’t have sex with each other within that ‘17 and under’ age group. So lowering that particular age limit won’t lead to anything better.

Well I think people want to avoid a situation where their taking advantage of someone and thus considered a creep or pervert especially when a child is involved. However I think people’s idea on what constitutes a child is a bit skewed sometimes…people consider a attraction to a teenage girl 16+ the same as a attraction to a 4 year old which is clearly not comparable.

This is a weird grey area. It really just has to do with social mores, and norms. I would be weirded out though if a 25 year old wanted a 15/16 year old. But the pedo stamp is questionable.

Being “fully developed” physically has no bearing on whether or not someone is still a child (and yes, a 16 year old is still a fucking child. Especially in this day and age, where you’re probably gonna live past 80). The average human brain isn’t even done developing until 25 years of age. So as the onset of female puberty continues to happen earlier (due to diet and the average fat stores of people in wealthy countries) are you really going to tell me that physical maturity is the benchmark for when it becomes ethical for an adult to have sex with a kid? Get a fucking clue.

In Canada the age of consent is 16…and again if we’re willing to allow 16 year olds to drive a car with people’s lives literally at stake then why is the sudden proposition that they could be compotent enough to fuck suddenly so outta the question.

No, I do not think an adult having sex with a 16 or 17 year old is anywhere close to raping a 4 year old (and that’s the only word you could use). And no, it’s not wrong to recognize that somebody is hot and looks good, even if they are young. Both of these are straw men, and I don’t think a single person has claimed either. It’s also not wrong for underage kids to have sex. That’s life.
But if you are an adult, and find out that somebody is 16 or 17, and then try to say that having sex with them wouldn’t be unethical just because they look full-grown, you have a fucked up moral compass.
And a 16 year old age of consent is backwards. Obviously there is going to be an arbitrary cut-off where there is a gray area, but that gray area is far out of reach of 16 years old.

If said person is 16/17 and already acts perfectly well of age then I’m not seeing the problem.
