plus, besides like tennis/golf/other single sports, there is a large team playing together as a unit, so usually the best team will win
in a game like SF4 where you can win a round with one move, single elim does not mean shit
unless you bring in the team factor where the randomness is subdued.
and even in those single “elim” sports, lemme use tennis for example. Sure the tourny is single elim, but look at how long male tennis sets are. If it was just one set, there would be upsets daily (like a sf single elim) but since they play a loong and many sets, the best prevails most of the time.
Back to MWC, yeah Marn ended up loosing early and he was the best in the tourny by a large margin. If it was single elim (im sure he would have probably still won he tends to sandbag) he woulda gotten a bad place and antwan would have won. And look what happened, marn rapped everyone including antwan and won the tourny.
All im kinda getting at in single elim in general does not work well in the USA primarily for one reason.
-Most of us end up putting lots of time and money away to travel and spend the day at these tournys. If the USA structure as a whole was single elim, I probably wouldnt go to many tournys at all because they wouldnt be worth my time and effort.

All i can say is I glad people are getting games and tournaments going.
I think the main thing is that everyone is making an effort to play. GW crew, Southsiders, Northsiders, Suburbanite crew, Whatever/whenever crews, regardless of area and location, casual or hardcore, people are coming together for one thing. That is to play games.
People have opinions. Yeah, it’s not what we are use to and its a bit pricey and such but those that want to support will support one way or another. I’d be more worried if people didn’t want to do shit rather than what is going on right now.
if tournaments and especially arcade tournaments were more common then you would see more single elim but since everyone seems to wanna give themselves a pat on the back for getting 3rd… 5th… 2nd… whatever… then double elim is gonna be the way things are gonna go. Even ddr tournaments are single elim but u always get seeded before the tournament starts.
Really looking forward to the GW Tournament. Think about it this way guys - 10 bucks for a night of GGS and you will be entertained watching the other matches. Its not gonna be just casuals like thurs nights, ppl will be trying to get their fight money. And like already stated, its not like we ever really pay when we play Thurs nights, so suck it up and untangle your panties.

I got a piece of info that will totally bracket-bust Saturday’s MCM tournament, and make everyone’s chances of winning SF4 increase by seven powers of nine and a half.
I will most likely not be able to attend the MCM tournament for SF4 due to prior obligations.
This tournament is now wide open. Get. Hype.
Besides, my absence allows other peeps to get their chance to shine.
