I’d totally be down for that. I like single-elimination. 2v2 single elimination sounds extra-fun, for sure…even though I don’t really play SF4.
I appreciate the feedback. I didn’t realize single elimination was that large of an anathema to so many here.
But come anyway! I doubt DE will ever be possible with a solo cab, but you never know. At the very least, I need the first tournament full so I can work on the setup/run time. In the mean time, pretend we’re in japan and join in.
It is just that Double Elim is the standard in the US. Single elim doesnt really give you accurate results. All it shows is that X player was hot that day and won 3-4 matches in a row. A small streak, which doesnt really mean much. Look at mwc, i lost to marn first round. If it was single elim, i got last place. Because it was double, I got 4th place.
With teams though single elim is alright, it is just that singles being single elim irks me.

Marcus, I’m glad that you connected with the GW GM Jim and hashed out the details for the GW tournament. Mad props to you for setting this up and handling it all by yourself. I’m sure a lot of us are very appreciative of your effort. Keep in mind that usually people with criticisms are the people that will most likely post their opinions and people with good things to say about it probably just keep quiet and be totally content with what’s going. So, please don’t get discouraged.
Regarding the additional venue fee of $5 per person, I’d say part of it is also to cover the lost revenue of the SF4 machines for the whole Sunday night. I mean, granted, GW can probably treat it as like a promo thing, but then again, it is a business after all, you have to be somewhat reasonable.
I do understand why some of us don’t think that $10 per person is a good deal. $10 has different utility value for different people, and since this forum consists of a wide spectrum of people, of course we will have people complaining about it. For those of us with full time job and can spare $10 of entertainment on Sunday night, please try to make yourself available and support this, I guess. All the free games that everyone has gotten on the past Thursdays should make up for this $10 right? Haha. 
Now Marcus, the free play after tournament is only for the tournament entrants right? So, we’ll have a maximum of 32 people on the “list”, assuming everyone stays to take advantage of the venue fee? If so, if you don’t mind, and there are no strong objections from the 32 tournament entrants, I’d like to volunteer myself for the list duties, and instead of our normal calling out names in the exact same order, have each round of the list in somewhat of a random order. I just really hate playing the same person every single round.
That’s my 2 cents.

Yeah, I figured the team factor with the extra round would lessen the gayness of SE. Would have been funny at MWC though. Marn lost to some random rufus relatively early.
G- I don’t think it was a requirement to have been in the tournament for the free play perk. When I talked to Jim, it seemed like the venue fee would be a blanket cover for the machine being on free play the rest of the night. I don’t think any of us who are going would honestly care if spectators took advantage of that, as it is the same concept as the time card. But it could lessen the ‘value’ from the venue fee. It honestly depends on the individual, but personally I’d let a few others who showed up to support the scene have my spot.
As for the post-tournament list, go right ahead and manage that. I don’t really mind who I play, so either shuffle yourself or me or anyone else who doesn’t care.

People get butthurt if they choke one match and don’t make top 10. I call insecurities. If you don’t come in first you are a loser.
