No, I’ve never been to Michigan in my life, but we did talk online before.
Good shit at Domingos, y’all…I had the Drum & Bass MVC3 setup in that first spare room, usin’ a lot of Spidey/X-23/Trish (Primary Colors Team)
HAGGAR!!! shakes fist
It’s alright…you did what you had to do.
hmmm…how do I multiquote now?
For xbl, there’s no set time that they update, but lot’s of times I’ll see new stuff pop up on there on monday night around 2am. Don’t wait up for it or anything…but if you’re gonna be up anyway, it’s worth taking a look.
As for monitors…1080p monitors are good. As long as the monitors native resolution is 1920x1080(1080p) or 1280x720(720p) there will be no lag due to the monitor converting the image. You set the 360/ps3 to output in the native resolution and then it does the conversion, and does it plenty fast enough. Resolution was a bigger issue in the past. Used to be a ton of different resolutions monitors would come in, but now they’re pretty standardized to the same
As for models…if you read the HDTV thread or maybe even ask in there, someone posted a link there to a UK tech review site that tests input lag on all the monitors they review. Sorry, I don’t have a link for you, but that’s how I found my lagless LG monitor.
edit: Thanks D. Barbeque was great. GGs to anyone I played.
Is there a different cord that I should be using instead of HDMI then? Anyone know what cord they use at EVO? Can’t I just set the tv to 720p display in the settings to minimize delay? Sorry if some of these questions are kinda dumb. I really don’t know anything about it. I just realized my tv has about 44ms lag, and i’m trying to get it down to about 2ms or less for when AE drops.
Multiquoting - I usually just reply to the first post, and then post that. Then whoever else I wanna quote, I hit “reply” so I get the quote-text…highlight and cut it, then paste it into my original post through editing, so I don’t doublepost.
Also, yeah, that setup I had there was 1920 x 1080 (1080p) in “Game Mode” through HDMI. It got no complaints, as far as I know. Brought that to Frosty Faustings 3 as well (the casual SSF4 setup, if anyone remembers), and it got nothing but compliments…well, 'cept from like, one person who was dissing it, yet didn’t even PLAY on it.
I was thinking about a TV when I made my post, so some of the info was actually not that relevent. My apologies.
One of these other posters can probably provide you with a better monitor choice, as they are obviously satisfied with what they have. I don’t have something to suggest as I myself got a LG HDTV, and for fighting games I always just use composite. Better picture be damned if I can’t play the game.
Is it sad that I don’t actually care too much about the DLC? lol
Might cop it tonight if it does show up though, we’ll see.
Had a great time yesterday, excellent meeting some of you! Looking forward to sticking around longer next time.
Made a big crock pot full of spinach and black bean queso, which managed to spill all over the backseat of my car on the way over. Still feelin’ pretty crushed, it was so good
The Asus VH236H is the monitor EVO used in 2009.
The Alienware OptX AW2210 is the monitor EVO used last year.
Cicada did exhaustive lag testing with both monitors to determine they each lag by less than one frame (16.67 ms). His blog post about it was lost in the forum upgrade, and his Youtube account to which he uploaded videos of his work has been terminated due to license claims by Capcom.
Connect your console to either monitor via HDMI. The VH236H has built in speakers, while the AW2210 does not. Both monitors have a headphone jack, allowing for connection to computer speakers.
Input lag is cause by post-processing. When, say, a 1080p tv gets a 720p signal, the TV has to upconvert the image to 1080p, and that takes time. TVs also have a lot of post-processing to do things like make the blacks look darker, remove ghosting, and image blur. This is what slows it down. TVs with a “game mode” will turn off a lot of this post processing, which can help.
So, you always want your console displaying in the native resolution for your TV. The game may have to be converted from 720 to 1080, but this way, your console is doing the work, and it’s processor is much much faster than your TVs.
As for cords…they’re all basically the same when it comes to input lag. The one reason to switch cords is that some TVs with post-processing also have an RGB input. These are so you can use the TV as a pc monitor. Sometimes TVs without game mode, will have the post processing turned off on this input only.
So, you won’t get your TV to 2ms. “Lagless” is actually a misnomer. Like Kobayashi said, a good monitor is just under a frame of input lag. With your TV at 2 and a half, it’s actually good. TVs don’t get much faster than that.
I believe the Alienware does an average of 5ms and the Asus is around 8.5ms/9ms
Ok, thanks for the info on lag everyone. What do you all usually play on at area xiii or tactics’ place for instance?
So I realized the other day that I have access to what could possibly be a good venue for a tournament or a massive casuals gathering, but the location is kind of far out. Its Pennyroad Pub, in South Barrington. I could definitely get something going out there, cheap to no venue fee! They have awesome food and I could prob even work out cheap beer as well.
Would anyone be into this?
…agghh…FUCK THE POLICE…other than that good times…killa mike once again ure A “G”…holding down,we puled it son…!!!
my license is suspended…cnt drive.(.pprffff…)…yeah ima need humble drive 2 gathrings every now n then…will pay in green money!..(i got pulled over cuz im white…)
Glad to know you’re okay, Jose.
Area XIII has all CRT monitors which are lag free though not widescreen
