Damn Chris… I feel for you when you realised the towel had left inprints in the paint work. Those aerosoles never fully harden and will always stay slightly soft at the surface. I have had a couple of mishaps like that in the past and yes stuff like that does make you want to cry as one has to start over again. Nice design on the case and it would be interesting to see what it will look like when its finished. Keep up the good work!
Re: the Dragon Ball Z / SSFIV stick - (lens flair aside) the problem is not the work that was done (shin dragon did a great job w/ what he was working with), it’s what he was asked to do. The problem is trying to blend two completely unrelated art styles together. If Vegeta were done in the airbrushed art style of Juri, it could look ok. If Juri were done in the more basic line art of Vegeta, it could look ok.
If I were commissioned to do this piece and that’s what I had to work with, I’m pretty sure I would try and get some sort of dividing line going across the stick (diagonal, horizontal, whatever) and just separate those worlds entirely.

Aerosol lacquer or clear coat has always failed me, is there a better alternative short of using a spray gun?
I just finished a stick(sans artwork) and the finish is absolutely horrible. The clear has only been setting for a day so I’ll let it sit for another two days before i put anything back in.
I have completely given up on paint, we disagree with each other
Jesus christ…all that bickering over 2 fucking lens flares.
IMO though, artwork is indeed considered part of a mod. A very important part, at that.
You could do the best modification work in the world, but spend 5 minutes photoshopping the art and have the entire project fail because of horrid art application.
Granted, I don’t think that’s what happened with the juri/vegeta stick. While, I DON’T PARTICULARLY CARE FOR THE ART MYSELF, it’s obvious his client did, the designer/modder got paid and everyone’s happy there. You can hate the art and make jokes about grabbing vegeta’s junk to your hearts content but it don’t matter cause the dude got paid in the end.
I woulda thrown a few more lens flares on if I’d knew it would piss a community off so much.
2 fucking lens flares…my god, world is over.
I just finished a stick for a client…here is the elite artworkz:

BALLZ!
I couldn’t help it.
I suppose it would be poking the hornets nest to state that I don’t get dragon ball Z at all
Lol, lens flare on Chi-Chi’s head. what an AWFULLY good design.
Thanks man, took me a while to do the hack & wiring but I wanted it to be as clean as possible to match the quality of the ecKsniNe case.
I especially appreciated the corner block detail.
Your cases are amazingly slick also, hopefully one day I’ll be lucky enough to get one when I get some $$$.
Is it wrong to love a stick so much? hehe…I love this damn thing way too much
He actually has another case like mine but in rounded edges still available in his trading post…if its actually still available, somebody needs to jump on that ASAP. Its beautiful!
Thanks, Oro and Q have always been a favorite since 3S dropped…that artist is just amazing.
Thanks man, sorry…I totally forgot about the lens flares this time! I just wanted something clean and simple.
Originally I had a clear balltop and a clear custom dust washer from arthong but in the end the stock black bits matched the devilwood insert so it was an obvious choice.
I got 2 other cases from him in the works, can’t wait to post those!
Today i got my shit from Japan with all my rare goodies fuck yes cant beat that, Plus big bonus Brand New Sanwa Flash1 Complete and Ascii Optical Cant complain about that. Now my Pics.

The story of my life lol I’ve smashed more than a few case because of little mishaps like that. Lacquer needs about 2 weeks to fully cure even if it feels dry it’s still curing and you will be able to leave finger prints in it just from it’s own weight. I’ learned that the hard way. Don’t worry we all go through this kind of thing and in the end it’s just a learning experience. I think the key to a nice hard lacquer finish is in the** primer** a good brand will cost about 40 a quart but it’s so worth it in the end and you will be able to see and feel the results. Next is the actual paint and adding a reducer to it makes a huge difference when applying on a worm day and finally using a catalyzed lacquer clear coat will make it about as tough as it gets. I like to hand rub it with Carnauba wax for a little extra protection but make sure to let it cure 2 weeks before waxing. Anyway thats what I’ve learned from hit and miss experiences in the past and also advice from some of the more pro painters here in the forums like b15sdm. Yeah so don’t feel too bummed we all make mistakes and you can always re-paint it. (As long as you don’t smash it against the wall) LOL Funny story once I actually bit a case before smashing it into a million pieces, I was having a bad day >/
I’m laughing way too hard right now.
damn meus where did you find a brand new flash?
Hey Meus, I like the one that looks like bananas!

I know the feeling on paint, believe me. The project I’m working on for a buddy of mine is using an enamal paint. Since I can only work on the stick at night after work, I’ve missed my recoat window. Spraying on the paint and watching it start to wrinkle is depressing. I even went to a can of rust-o-leum (applied with a foam roller and sanded smooth). The can said ready to habdle in 24 hours. I picked up some polycrylic clear coat, thinking it would be safer to work with than the enamel spray (it’s water based, after all). No dice, it still started to wrinkle. So, more time with the sandpaper and recoating. I’ll probably wait at least a week before touching the paint again. I may even wait a few days after I wet sand it to make extra sure. Now I’m only worried if I should use the polycrylic or the spray enamel.
Funny thing is, I had no problems on the part of the case I hit with the metallic paint. I’m on my 4th coat of poly now with no problem (going for at least 6 before I start wet sanding and polishing).
