Resident Evil 6 is a horrible game! (no pun intended)

Goddammit Capcom…

I actually think its alright. Its got its problems but is far from bad.

I still think this match is a 7-3 blanka offline, you just need lame and reactions which is harder to react online.

If you have a laggy enough connection with Gief, you can just empty green hand into SPD all day. I bait that thing out online and still get grabbed sometimes. That’s probably one of the reasons ppl hate Blanka online (whiff ball -> throw), but that extra 3 frames for blanka’s throw makes a huge diff.

man 7-3 is really lol. you’re saying that blanka has it easier then akuma does. I don’t know about that. I personally think it’s either even or favored to blanka. The only reason i say even is i haven’t had a long set offline with snake or vangief. But honestly the only gief i really have any issues at all is snake so it’s probably favored.

Lapchi what gief do you guys got in canada if any?

I’m sooooo garbage at the gief match

You are so aggressive whenever you play. Maybe you have issues being lame?

The thing is that I normally body gief really really badly.

However playing Snake Eyez and talking to him taught me a lot about the match. He understands Blanka’s options insanely well and is able to reaction punish balls incredibly solid with lariat which makes them very very risky vs. him. He also has great option select ability too, so backdashing and rainbow are awful ideas vs. him a lot of the time as you end up getting punished.

Blanka has to chip with balls, which technically requires you to be in SPD range to make it non reactable, or you have to gamble that he will be occupied doing something else and be unable to react. MP Ball is also very difficult to make safe and can generally be beaten by walk forward ex greenhand on block(which vangief does not do)

If Gief doesn’t have the reactions to accurately punish active balls I agree Blanka has an advantage, but when the player does? You have to outfootsie him for a long time to grind him out.

I honestly don’t believe any Blanka in the world can beat Snake Eyez 70% of the time unless you make him play on stick, haha.

Vangief and any other Gief is certainly more beatable. But I can’t say that a match you have to work that hard in is 7-3 or even 6-4, blanka can lose off of a single mistake while Gief can make a lot.

If anyone wants to lose money play him Snake Eyez at Evo.

Pretty sure you can only punish MP ball if you block standing as gief?

I do think it’s either even or advantage blanka. 7-3 is hard to agree with… There are two giefs in my state that are pretty dang good and they say that they beat every single blanka with the exception of me. I also trade with snake online and we have a very solid connection most of the time. The reason it’s hard for me to gauge is that i get really good blanka vs gief practice since our better local players are giefs. I think it’s one of my best matchups. So me going 50-50 with snake could say a lot of things. That it’s 6-4/7-3 in blanks favor since he’s better then i am, so he’s able to keep it 50-50. Another thing you could say is that it’s 5-5 because he’s better then me but i know more about the matchup then he does so it keeps it even. Or you could just say we are even overall and it’s an even matchup. I really want a set offline with him. I think that will help me give a more accuracte rating of the matchup.

From a personal preference i say it’s 5-5 / 6-4 range to blanka. But it’s REALLY hard to gauge a matchup like that where any mistake on both ends is usually the round. If gief gets behind at all it’s really difficult to deal with. s.MP c.HP is so hard to get around. You don’t even need ball half the time. I think that calling matchups is a very difficult thing, since we are at the poitn now where skill can really swing things in your favor. One quick one is that the idea of blanka beating rufus is really hard to call because you can theory it all you want, but until you’re playing a big set with justin or ricky you can’t really know.

In any case good discussions.

edit: yeah snake is the only gief who punishes rainbow ball lol

Yea the gief matchup is pretty much the opposite of how i play and it doesent help that the gief here in tx who always seems to beat me in tourneys (jan del rio) has insane reactions…and yea i played a set with snake eyes at evo and iv never been so frustrated in my life

even just a few extra frames of lag can hurt gief a lot because it hurts his ability to punish balls, and to whiff punish in general. It also hurts Blanka’s whiff punish ability. For matchups that are heavily reaction reliant I really don’t like using online to judge them.

Blanka really does beat Rufus on paper, though I really do need to play justin or ricky. I just can’t see how Blanka doesn’t win, it’s actually a pretty low effort matchup if you are good at AAing divekicks.

I’ve been getting really frustrated with my tournament performance lately. I’ve been losing to people I generally have no problem beating in casual matches. I think my biggest problem is anxiety, and I’ve been looking for ways to overcome it. The advice I was given was, no soda or caffeine during the day (I’m sensitive to caffeine so this should have been obvious), eat a banana in the morning, and chew ginseng root or chewing gum. I’ve also been told to practice deep breathing exercises. Do you guys have any advice?

The feel when you rush people down with blanka and lose. Then after the fact you realized you rushed them down.

I beat all Rufus cept when I play Jwong and Ricky. Maybe I can setup a mm Riceata vs Snakeeyes online. I did lose 5-1 to snakeeyes but I couldn’t react to anything when I played him so I think it would be much better if I played him offline. In Canada we have Clim which is a great gief but I still beat him. Honestly, I shouldn’t even be winning SF I"m not a S tier player, I am a old man with kids and tons of businesses to run.

After playing fchamp I think its 6-4 vs Dhalsim now.

ahah i’m in the same boat. Wife/Kids/Big Job.

I do think that blanka does well vs sim as well. I’d love to see riceata vs snake but offline only.

Well now that I think about it, 7-3 blanka vs gief if gief chooses ultra 1. I think its different if he chooses ultra 2 imo.
Then again snakeeyes might be the best Gief in the world. Either way I would love to play him offline.

Talk a lot of shit internally. If you beat someone in casuals easily and lose to them in tournament, you’re probably better than them but just need to focus on that.

Think about how much they suck, visualize your gameplan vs. them and how you exploit their weaknesses, then execute.

Also breathing and taking your time is important. If you lose a game, go to character select and give yourself a minute to think, have a drink of water, and get somewhat stable, rushing back in does you no good.

But yeah if I find I’m not doing as well as I should vs. someone I stop trying to think as much and just revert to my flowchart vs. that character that I know works. Most of the time simplifying your approach when you are the stronger player will yield the win.

Great advice as always, thanks Ves.
