I agree that going for a hit on an EX Rainbow instead of just trying to escape the corner has a horrible risk-reward ratio, you get low damage if you hit and you risk getting heavily punished if the opponent blocks it.

But like the commentators said on the stream, sometimes it’s pretty hard to block it the right direction and I’m pretty sure that sometimes it’s just unblockable/very hard to block (but pretty hard to make it so consistently).

It is pretty amazing how often ex rainbox roll in general hits the opponent, even top notch opponents. I guess this is why it is used so much, even though it is pretty low reward for a great deal of risk. The fact that ex rainbow can now go backwards really was a huge buff that was never mentioned in the AE change logs.

Yes but you are much more easily punishable now, more hard to escape from the corner but i admit it was sometimes ridiculous with the old ex rainbow to go back to the other side.

That’s not really easy to do because FA’s tend to widen a character’s hit box so it’s not easy to target the front of the opponent and land close enough to grab them. Also remember that EX Rainbow has 10f ground recovery, so even if you do manage to land close enough you usually can’t throw them unless they released the FA after you hit the ground, and even if they don’t release, they can still backdash away.

If you don’t stuff reversal ex rainbow it can be unblockable. trying to block it is dumb.

Yeah for sure I agree, my mental game is bad. I suck at making reads and I suck at getting into my opponent’s head. I just don’t know how to practice that.

I play way better in casuals or online than I do in tournaments generally because generally tournament conditions are ass. When it’s hot as fuck and my hand is too sweaty to slide, or they won’t tell me when I’m playing and I haven’t eaten for 6 hours, or it’s PS3(lol) it’s kind of difficult to do your best.

The more I play the less mistakes I make so I end up keeping my composure a lot better. Thats pretty much what I need to do my best. If I’m happy with how I’m playing no matter how strong the opponent I tend to do better. When my execution/spacing starts to slide so does my mental game.

I still don’t really get how to make reads unless someone has a horrible habit though, which start to disappear as players get stronger. I can read weaker players like a book and manipulate them into making bad decisions, but I couldn’t get vangief to jump when I whiffed jabs or w/e when I saw him doing that all day in casuals and during the pool. shrug.

Mental game is important no doubt. When you play normal players you can win by merely letting them beat themselves by mental cracking. I remember breezing through tournament brackets all the way to finals during vanilla because people would just go to pieces the moment I sat down next to them. When you play pro players you find that they don’t bend mentally. You can’t get Inside their heads unless you really work them during the first half of a round and put them on tilt. Top players usually play by the book, they look past the player and just run the matchup numbers. Ves ur a top player imo but you don’t have the rep and mystique that big name players do so you may be cracking mentally when you play them. Is that the case?

I used Blanka in a tournament, Guile in casuals. I got nothing but disrespect when I won, they aren’t even my secondaries. Maybe I should consider playing them for rage factor.

The guy did c.LP c.MP ex rush c.LP c.MP ex rush c.LP c.MP headbutt to daigo in a MM that was being recorded. That is crazy sick stuff. And this was years ago.

I just think he doesn’t give a fuck, he looks at his opponent with disdane and he’s gonna murder them. Sometimes you have to take that approach.

I fucked up vs. vangief, was trying to do this j.hp setup to beat lariat that I had been practicing and I literally missed it every single time and traded/got stuffed. Should have been more lame, and I should just not do stuff until I’ve practiced it dozens of hours.

Hey, so curious what all you guys do for a living. I think the last time time ages were thrown out, there were at least no 12 year olds in this forum (most were 20-40 I believe). I work in corporate finance/accounting. Also going to school part time. If any of you are considering doing the same, I would advise full time, at least if you have kids like I do.

Work at a research center…and hopefully getting my forensic science degree next semester
