Charleston SC, Prepare Yourself!

As far as keeping up with the times, that’s true unfortunately. Its kind of like peer pressure in a video game context. Its not a bad thing entirely, because of the amount of competition available; so, there is a benefit involved. But, in my opinion, MvC2 is the most fun of all 2D fighters so far, BUT only once you get to a certain skill level. I admit, its really demotivating until then, especially if you’re playing good people that don’t go easy on you. So, the way I see it, getting better at MvC2 really puts your temper to the test if the other person won’t let up on you. And, not many people can really handle that! From a psychological point of view, losing horribly sends most people through all these negative emotions and the game itself will be associated to those bad emotions (remember Pavlov’s Theory?). Now, with SF4, and most other Capcom games, I find that even if you just know basics, you can stand a chance so you won’t lose as bad.

But, luckily for me, Ty, Lil’ John, Gohan (sometimes Zane and Chuck) all still play MvC2 at Tilt. :wgrin: Me, Ty and Lil’ John all agree that MvC2 > CvS2 and we’ve all played CvS2 extensively when it was in the arcade so its not just a one sided opinion.

CvS2 was just too slow. No other fighting game (to my knowledge) can you fly around and do flashy shit that looks super tight and is also really anti-turtle. People watching who don’t even know how to play would go, “Wow!” Whereas, in CvS2, you’d have to know how to play to be amazed at anything going on. (Those custom combos are pretty flashy though!)

As far as my opinion on SF4, it still hasn’t grown on me yet because of school and other stuff-like playing MvC2 with people at the mall. I still like CvS2 better than SF4 currently, but only because SF4 hasn’t fully matured for me yet. But, I’m pretty much maxed out for how much I’m going to like CvS2.

I can see what Stranger is saying about the animation/art style of SF4 because I notice it too. But, I just ignore it and play the game. I think that the potential for me liking SF4 more than CvS2 is high due to watching some youtube videos of the current high level game play of SF4; it looks like it can get pretty fun also. Stranger, do you own SF4??

IMO, another factor in how much someone likes a game is age. Because I notice that as I get older, I find it harder and harder to really get into any video game intensely. And, obviously, these newer games are much more graphically enhanced than Super Mario Brothers or Duck Hunt!! But, from what I recall, I was way into Duck Hunt! And, I always wanted to shoot that damn dog! (I bet there’s going to be follow up posts where people are going to talk about Duck Hunt now; well, not anymore, now that I said that! But, bet you were thinking about it ) Imagine if Halo came out when you were 7 or something! Even if you don’t like Halo now, a younger version of yourself probably would.

SF4 can get hype like Marvel though, and that’s tight. Seeing someone hit a hard link, or link into an ultra from no where is pretty dope.

Marvel is fun, and I definitely like playing it, but SF4 is way more my speed of game. It’s just the style I like playing, but whatever, I liked Rival Schools haha.

I think the big thing is that MvC2 and 3S have just been so played out.

I’m a massive fan of 3S, I’d say it is probably my favorite fighter of all time… but, I think its time is slowly passing. Anyone who likes 3S should really have absolutely no probs with SF4 either. I think it’s the closest in style to SF4. The only real differences are the juggle properties and Focus is just a more flexible version of parrying. I don’t think I’d ever get tired of playing 3S and CvS2, but that’s no reason to ignore anything just because it’s new and different.

There’s a bit of flashy stuff in it as well, although it is much more about crazy links, reversals, mix-ups, and FADC combos/Ultra combos. It’s flashy, but in a more awesome basics kinda way. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never been one to get caught up in flashy stuff, anyway. That is probably part of why MvC2 didn’t appeal so much to me. To me, at some point, there’s such a thing as too much stuff going on at once.

My advice to Stranger would be to just give SF4 a chance. Graphics don’t mean anything and people said the same exact stuff about SF3 when that first came out. They couldn’t find anything about it that they liked. It’s gonna get a lot of play around here, but it won’t be the only game everyone plays. I’m sure there will be plenty of chances to play 3S or CvS2 at tourneys or get-togethers. It’d be worth it to atleast learn the game a little bit so you can still participate when we do play it.

Hell, I hate MvC2 and I still bothered to learn at least a little bit in case I had to play it… I’ve already forgotten most of what I learned, *but that’s not the point.

I think this should be more about having fun hanging out with some cool people and playing some fighting games and less about which games we need to be playing. It should be more about the comp, less about the games.

p.s.: Rival Schools needs a Revival. Awesome game is awesome.

I think people didn’t like 3S because if you knew how to parry the dog sh*t out of a super, they think you cheated. CVS2 is my favorite game next to SF4. SF4 does play close to 3S but with more of a focus on flashy cancels and reverse punishment.

P.S. So ar we looking to have Project Justice 2 - Rival Schools 3

I’ll money match anyone in Project Justice :stuck_out_tongue: Straight up :stuck_out_tongue: Give me a week to actually play the game again though lol

Josh and I are playing SF4 at my apartment for now. Anyone that wants in is welcome. Bring sticks. Call for directions. 843 469 3391 ps I don’t have shit for snacks but I have cherry dr pepper mmmm delicious.

GGs last nite Ryan, Anthony, and Chris T.

Since when graphics don’t mean anything ? I just can’t play a game that’s not satisfying to me. And graphics play a big role if you ask me.

I hope so. I’ve been watching this forum for about two months I would say, and I still didn’t see anything for 3S posted here I’m afraid…

when and where do u wanna game! i dont mind if i have to drive dude.

I can play tomorrow after 4pm. I live in the dorms (Charleston AFB). Just let me know the day you’re coming, and call me when you get to the gate so I can pick you up.

Might as well bring a copy of CVS2 for the PS2.

If graphics were important in fighting games, any and all versions of SF2 would’ve died a long time ago.

Quake 1 and 3 are still some of the best competitive FPS games out there.

Starcraft.

I dunno if racing games count, but Rad Racer is pretty rad.

Ummmm… King’s Quest and Zork rock all other adventure games/series.

I can’t think of any other genres, but yeah… you get the idea. Graphics are nice and shiny, but they don’t make a game good. Crysis is the only exception, that game is fun despite the awmazing grafx.

Crysis is kinda ok.

Anyway, I think you are confusing graphics in general with poly count / realistic graphics.

I still like SF2’s graphics even though it’s pretty damn old.

Video games…its all about whatever floats YOUR boat…

Some prioritize graphics more than others…and, that’s just the way it is…

I never played Crysis before.

I was taken back today, they have Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter in the arcade now. It seems that Tilt is trying to cash in on the “VS” series since MvC2 is like their top money maker. I have no idea how to play that game besides the basics. I might have to learn some Wolverine shit now! He’s awesome in that game.

You can borrow mine if you want it. I bought it and played for a couple hours and that was it. Funny thing is what bugged me about the game was the graphics. Pop ups to be exact. And yes, I’ve tried to tweak to see if I could get it better, and it did get better but still annoying.

Cyber Akuma and Shadow charlie ftw lol!!!

oh and graphics don’t mean shit when it comes to fighting games. all about gameplay!

Personally the graphics aren’t everything it is mostly about how the game engine feels for me. Physics, movement and balance etc… Sometimes the game looks really good, but it feels like crap.

Crysis needs a machine made by a deity to run without any problems, it’s pretty insane. There are some mods available that do improve framerate by a shitload. Game is really fantastic if you’ve into FPSes for sure.

I did get that best mod they had (forgot the name already). And back then when I got the game my PC wasn’t that bad. G9800GTX+, Core Duo 8500 3.16, Corsair DDR2 800 2gb x2 4-4-4-12, Asus P5Q Deluxe.

Link to Crysis’ screenshot.

And I do play FPS. BF2, BF2142, UT3, R6V2.

Exactly, just like that MK/DC…
