Character Ranking Discussion

Would that be the cargo stage spike i mentioned?

She’s decent. Nothing really stand-out about her except for the WoP (which some High/Top Tiers can do as well). Rest’s hitbox is buffed, but the killing power is nerfed, still has great air priority for non-disjointed hitboxes, Rollout is somewhat buffed, ground game is rather average outside of Boosted USmash.

She’s a solid character, nothing too rape, nothing too bad. Has trouble with keep-away characters and dies rather easily though. I’d say Mid to upper Low Tier.

She’s been nerfed in quite a few areas, and a lot of what made here good isn’t that special anymore since the majority of characters are floaty and have good air games.

EDIT:

I just discovered that Snake has an infinite grab. Read it on smashboards.

That doesn’t look legit CT, for one thing it was on a CPU, and he had trouble performing it consistently.

It wasn’t a CPU, he set the CPU to Control, which keeps the CPU tag over the head and gives it to Player 2.

More and more characters seem to be able to chaingrab. Hope Brawl doesn’t turn to a chaingrab-fest.

You must not be a fan of melee then.

That was performed on a player.

Nearly every character in Melee had at least one CG, and that game didn’t turn into a complete CG fest.

On a completely unrelated topic, I feel that camping will become less and less powerful as Brawl progresses. Once players master air dodging and perfect shielding, and more effective approaches are discovered, the camping strategies people use now will become obsolete. Not saying that projectile spam will be completely useless, but the characters are are high on the tier list because of it will be moved down as time comes.

Yeah, I guess you guys are right. I liked Melee fine, but it was a little too unbalanced for my taste.

So remind me again why is falco so high up? I messed around with him in training today IMO laserlock isn’t enough to put him above most of the cast.

Did you read the description for him on the front page, or read the threads on him on SWF, or read the “Official Tier List Discussion Thread” on SWF? If you did you would see a lot of things that made him good aside from laserlock, and laserlock has become a lot more practical now since M2K found several easy ways to set it up. Don’t forget that Falco also has SHDL, a CG, can do legitimately inescapable combos, has a fairly good ground and air game, has that ridiculous Dair spike, and has fairly good match-ups against anyone.

a high number of chain grabs in melee where exclusively on fox and falco. marth and foxes, g&w uthrow chains, and donkey kong(some of these work on cf kinda… too) all mostly just worked vs spacies, but they were still top tier… because…you could get around cgs fairly easily by just playing smart and not whiffing stuff and not getting grabbed. peaches only worked on cf, falco and fox. mario’s uthrow only works on those 3 two… although hes got a dthrow. sheik, mario, doctor mario, gannon were like the only two other chaingrabalicious chars…there weren’t too many others with very effective chains… i guess cf can chain grab kinda… and luigi’s can kinda chain spacies… but anyways… im just showing that they werent dominant and most weren’t even that great. cant forget ics but they are diff

but that’s like saying camping won’t have enough depth to keep up. if there are anti-camping tactics, there will always be camping tactics. the only way there won’t be is if something completely blows camping out of the water

there’s too much wrong with this to be useful

Ah, never mind then. The consistency is still kinda weird and it looks a tad too situational to be really useful.

I agree. Defensive options will open up new avenues of attacking, and players will learn how to control space on a campy character out of sheer necessity.

Seems REALLY situational really…

^Great as if snake wasn’t good enough.

That’s not going to alter Snake’s gameplay much.

That shit is REALLY situational. As in, almost so situational I don’t even see the point.

Says the Metaknight player. I doubt you would say anything if/when (most likely “when”) Metaknight is found to have a chaingrab (that isn’t situational).

I’m sorry, but I’m so very tired of this whole “Snake is God” scenario when you play a character with more bullshit than him.

I still don’t see why you and EmblemLord complain about him so much. There is no way Snake is the best person in the game. NO WAY.

He’s quite good, yes, but he has quite a few flaws.

I mean, I can understand the bitching about the nonsensical hitbox of Ftilt, but that’s pretty much it. His Uair and Bair seem to be too linear and have too much lag (close to the ground) for you to have much to worry about unless you’re being careless about fighting in in the air (which you happen to have the advantage considering you main MK).

As far as I can tell, from my experiences, Snake seems like he has problems against at least four people (Falco, R.O.B., Pit, and MK).

I mean, sure, MK is “light” (bullshit, I swear you don’t die until like 120 easy almost everytime we fight unless I somehow manage to hit you with Forward Smash, which is nigh impossible) and that can be problematic since Snake is heavy (even though DSmash and Shuttle Loop have stupidly great horizontal knockback that makes that matter less), but I still don’t see how Snake has the advantage of MK otherwise. I remember you saying on Tuesday that the only reason you didn’t like Snake was because (to paraphase) “you actually had to make an effort to kill him [with Metaknight]”.

I mean, between fighting you and Yeb, I’m pretty sure that Ftilt doesn’t outrange Metaknight’s sword–Marth’s, though…–and since you’re hardly ever on the ground and have air superiority, Bair and Uair are kind of useless.

I’m sorry, but other people (even if they’re relatively few) have far more bullshit than Snake seems to have, especially since quite a few of Snake’s better moves can hurt himself.

If Snake was completely immune to all of his own explosives (I’m still surprised he’s immune to his own Up Smash and Nikita), then yes, maybe I could see him being “Number #1”, but there’s no way he it’s right now, even if it’s a really campy Snake you’re having trouble with (which I’m not, but that’s mostly because I perceive camping as really boring and more difficulty than it’s worth with Snake due to the aforementioned “lack of loyalty” a lot of his moves “enjoy”).

P.S. That shit is really situational, which is funny because Snake himself is seems more vulnerable to chaingrabs than most other characters considering his height and weight. As a current Snake player, I would love to have as many effortless grabs as Falco or King Dedede or Ice Climbers (who I still don’t think are as good Corner-Trap thinks they are, but that’s a whole different post).

But, no, all Snake has is a ghetto tech-chase that he can’t really take much of an advantage outside of re-grabbing the person since his aerials are actually rather crappy outside of their power and priority. (Yes, those are important, but they all lag and half of the time Nair and Dair don’t even come out all the way or get all the hits if you do them incorrectly, which you will.)

Nigga is you on drugs?!?!

SNAKE IS THE GOD OF BRAWL!!!

Also Snake out ranges MK with his tilts. I tested it.
