Changes for Morrigan in UMvC3

I can kind of see why they don’t give her a beam hyper again lol. She would almost assuredly rocket up into A tier with DHC/THC options, assist punishes and her Dark Harmonizer. Buffed damage and a nice battery for herself might make Ryu and Akuma obsolete in a matter of weeks depending on how UMvC3 evolves. She is one of those characters whose potential really does dwarf the rest of the cast. Hell, giving her the old spike drop from MvC1 as a combo extender like Phoenix with the beam alone would be even more massive than Ryu’s changes. The teleport is the tip of the iceberg with her.

I’m mostly willing to exchange those two for a nice ground dash and combos off of air throws and even those two things are unlikely knowing Capcom…

Ground dash plus full combos off of air throws = happy Karst.

I agree with Ranadiel that Soul Fist S is just a poor gimmick. Soul Fist spam won’t be any more monstrously effective in UMvC3 than it is in MvC3.

Especially since you can achieve a similiar effect by just doing an air exchange now. Left/Right to steal a whole bar, Down to give yourself a full bar. That alone greatly reduces the utility of Meter-Fist.

TACs in general undermine Morrigan’s existence.

Side exchanges don’t steal bars though, just remove them. You gain none from it. What I would really want in a teleport for Morrigan would be closer to Wesker than Phoenix - fixed distance forward, fixed distance back, and fixed distance straight up into an automatic flight mode. This would make them mostly defensive in nature.

I made an account just to mention this since I don’t think anyone has said this thus far. It seems Morrigan’s back dash also got buffed like her forward dash. In maximilian’s video covering strider and vergil the guy he was playing was using morrigan for a match. While he did nothing really impressive around 6:06 into the video morrigan does a back dash in air and is able to attack very quickly out of it. So hopefully we will be able to attack and guard out of her back dash much more quickly?

I could see morrigan getting a teleport kind of similar to wesker’s or akuma’s(usable in the air though). I would say that her teleport wouldn’t make her completely disappear for a second like wesker, she would turn into bats and the bats would move in the direction of the teleport quickly. But I would say that she should be able to teleport in directions similar to wesker rather than tracking the opponent, just maybe a down forwards direction or an up forwards direction instead of straight down, upward or forward.

One thing I’m personally hoping for is for her soul fist assist to be switched to the S version to steal meter.

Edit: That would undermine her meter building assist though, but I wouldn’t mind.

I don’t think it would undermine the assist, because it still has to hit to build meter, and it’s not as safe as Dark Harmonizer. I personally would stick with Dark Harmonizer if that change were made.

@Parmesean: I don’t think Morrigan could ever not attack quickly out of a back air dash, just a back ground dash.

If they gave her

A teleport
Soul Eraser
Normal speed metre sucking soul fist
Vector drain/air throw sucks 1 metre
An OTG without burning metre
Standing overhead would be nice

Then I’d be very, very happy

Standing overhead is really unnecessary for Morrigan. Flight+S is 20 frames combined start up, Flight+L is 19, and standing overheads in this game are 20-22 frames. If she cancel out of her dash as much earlier as it looks, you should be able to do a ~9-14 frames over head with dash into j.L, or 10-15 with Dash into .S.

So Morrigan is definitely better but there’s still no reason to choose her over the regular tournament douche bags like Dante, Sentinel, and Wesker. Is that correct?

Way too early to say. There simply is not enough footage of people who aren’t complete ass with Morrigan using her. Going off my own experience from the Evo build is no better, I bodied people with her there, but they too were complete ass. If she has indeed gotten everything Neogaf has listed in her changelog, then she should be a very good character, and quite possibly one of the best battery characters out there.

Not gameplay related but about her new colours… why did they say that her pink color is a new look in UMVC3!!! It is just her color 4 in MVC3! Or did I miss something?

Btw I LOVE the white Morrigan… so sexy!

Probably because she was used so little in MvC3 that only those who main her would realize that it’s not a new look.

You are just kidding right… LOL -_-"

Capcom loves to Trololololol

I love the crap out of the Lilith alt and light Morrigan though. I just wish they would’ve gotten reid of her green/red scheme for a black(blue is also great) color scheme.

The red/green scheme truly is terrible. Also, her hair looks more gray than white in some of her outfits, like it’s “elderly Morrigan”…but only in the hair. I’m not terribly pleased by the additions, but I use default colors, so whatever.

Because Gamespot.

as far as anti-phoenix tech, maybe consider this:

if phoenix is at 5 bars, and you catch her an any super close by that’ll kill, you can x-factor cancel in the air or on the ground and go for the meter stealing soulfist to kill her on final hit, thereby keeping her from transforming into dark phoenix. that’s basically a non-glitched freebie for all morrigan players. if shuma does this on grab too, it’s gravy.

Oh man, if I’m facing Phoenix, I’m putting Morrigan in and doing nothing but fly- canceled Soul Fist S’s until one lands, haha.
