Here’s my one-line CFJ review: Choose between the same characters that you played in 1991, 1994, or 1998, only slower and uglier this time.
I don’t want to waste a lot of time on this…let me break it down.
Graphics: Sloppy and pixelated. CFJ looks worse than CvS2. The character sprites have been scaled down a bit, but it looks like they weren’t cleaned up by hand afterwrds. As a result they’re blocky and more pixelated than you would expect. The backgrounds are full of detail, but equally sloppy. The background characters look like paper cutouts. The hit graphics and super pyrotechnics are nice, but look completely out of place in the pixel-garbage that is the surrounding game.
Gameplay: What blows me away here is how little there is to learn in this game. There are no new significant gameplay systems at all. You can play Guy…a lot like you played him in Alpha 2. Or you can play Guile…a lot like you played him in SF Classic. If you’re like me and enjoy discovering new aspects of the game, there’s very little for you here. You can choose a character from a game that you haven’t played (which basically means Warzard for most people), or you can play around with the whole “dream matchup” dynamics and figure out how to beat the crack-induced Darkstalker characters with a Zangief that can’t run, dash, or roll.
Speed: Everything about the game feels slow. The speed seems a touch slower than CvS2. The SF and Alpha chararacters don’t have rolls, dashes, or runs, which makes them feel even slower. It takes literally about 6 seconds between rounds to pick your new character. Even if you and your opponent jam on the buttons right away, you have to sit and wait. Good time to start up a conversation or go make a sandwitch I guess.
Even though I have yet to play the game, you got a point inkblot…
But I think at the same time that’s what will attract people that are looking for dream matches like you said. Like that saying goes about one man’s garbage applies to this game…
i know all you capcom diehards want a new game too.
there’s little chance the capcom 2d scene can survive until sf4. mvc2 and 3s are great to keep capcom on life support, but if cfj just yanked the cord…
i’d recommend everyone check out ssvs if exposure wasn’t such an issue.
im a capcom fanatic but i can only judge for me. no one can tell how crappy a game is, i still need to see for myself. i play it for the challenge not the graphics. speed doesnt matter to me since i used to be a SF tourny challenger in my day, started with the orig SF. you just have to adjust to the game like any other. my review is pending.
What’s the problem? If we can appreciate CvS2 then we appreciate this game. Correct me if I am wrong but wasn’t MvC2 thought of as a crappy game upon it’s debut? We’ll find some abuseable and unbalanced tactics in CFE and then it will be accepted? CFE is a crossover/dreammatch done right. Don’t worry Synikal. It’s coming.

i just pre-ordered my copy and im actually going to buy 2 more for friends for christmas. i haven’t played it and from videos it looks promising. people keep dissing it hell no one will buy the fucking thing.
I’m a Capcom Fanboy, but if I get into one more CFE Internet argument I’m going to scream. All I can do is praise the creator of this Thread for his originality because there are no Threads on the Internet exactly like it and since there are no Threads at SRK discussing CFE him creating this Thread and not posting on a CFE Thread was 100% necessary.
The reason this game is such a piece of shit, is because all these idiots kept playing CvS2, and capcom knew they could get away with making another half assed game.
i havnt gotten to play this game yet so im not sure how bad it is.
from what ive heard,i think CFJ is gonna be total shit, if darkstalker chars. are all tier then u might as well just play darkstalkers. i was looking forward to playing yun but i found out he doesnt have geni jen, this game is prop. gonna be broken as hell and not worth my time, but i could be wrong.
NOTE: I’m sick of hearing the bitching about CVS2, stfu about it, if u dont like it dont play it or whine about it
