If I have to fucking hear any more overreacting to Jedah ESPECIALLY BY PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER PLAYED OR WHO HAVE PLAYED FOR A HANDFUL OF SESSIONS ONLY I’m going to snap. Yes, Jedah’s really good. No, he’s not the best. No, the game isn’t broken. Yes, you probably aren’t going to do well against him if you play Zangief or like to throw fireballs and pretend you’re playing CvS1. Let’s get a few things straight, point by point here.
Jedah is unbeatable and/or is CvS1 Nakoruru.
OK, this is clearly and totally false. This is precisely how VS started, with everyone complaining about Jedah and thinking he was unbeatable. This turned out to be very shortsighted thinking. I think a lot of people are falling prey to this type of thought, mostly because it’s their first time seeing the DS characters. The learning curve is steep, but there are things to keep in mind.
–The wheel is not instant. As someone who plays Ruby Heart, I’m instantly familiar with how the wheel works. He cannot really throw out the wheel in your face or even very close to you if you’re watching out for it. Get off your fat ass, quit thinking that sonic boom->flashkick is going to solve everything and fucking punch him in the face while he’s throwing that shit at you.
–The wheel doesn’t take up that much space. When placed properly, yes, it is going to get in your way. It isn’t a total get out of jail free card. Bison can do some horrible things to Jedah if he knows that jumpback wheel is coming, notably jump strong strong super. You can also teleport and come out ready to do some damage. The dinosaur can also just reach back and tail slap him from 3/4 screen if he thinks this is coming (dino has a tough time with Jedah but the wheel has nothing to do with it).
–His rushdown is not that good. It’s very good considering this is a slow game but it’s not as good as Anakaris’ or other characters even. Also in a lot of situations it’s not as good as Morrigan’s in CvS2. Sometimes you can slip out of the combo. This = damage opportunity. It’s a very bad idea to do any kind of air rush against a charged Ryu, or Zangief or Leo or any character with a custom. Also a lot of 3s characters can option select his air rush. For example, Alex can do option select stand strong against his rush. It’s not perfect and there are situations where you have to make more than one parry, but you have definite options.
–He has weaknesses. Darkstalkers (supposedly) take more damage. He also has very weak air defense. If you have a strong crossup game (Karin, Ryu, Sakura, etc) you can ruin his life once you earn your way in. Darkstalkers getting up system is not very strong against crossup characters. Hell it sets you up perfectly. He doesn’t really do that much damage off his air series all the time. Risk/reward means that sometimes it’s OK to go for things like Sakura jab uppercut or Karin counter, or Guile knee thing, or Alex stomp.
The point is that even though Jedah is strong now and will stay strong for the forseeable future, he does not ruin the game. Learn about him and you’ll see that your openings are there.
CFJ balance is bad.
Why are you people even thinking about this already. As I see it, there are many characters who can possibly be competitive. Karin, Jedah, Anakaris, Guile, Ryu, Bison, Zangief, Alex, Demitri, Felicia being the ones that are used commonly already, with Mukuro, Ingrid looking good but people not experienced enough to use them yet. There are 21 characters in this game but it’s primarily a 1v1 game. Most people pick teams consisting of their best character and a partner who beats their best’s counter character. Like if you play Zangief, your team is Zangief/Jedah-counter, but you’re primarily a Zangief player.
I can’t possibly see why people are thinking about balance being a problem already.
2a) The character selection is bad.
OK, if you like 3s and you say this, allow me to fucking kick you in the nuts.
The graphics/sound are bad, waaah.
Go play Guilty Gear if you need to be impressed with art. The graphics are clean and don’t get in the way of the action. I see no real reason to knock the game over graphics/sound.
Basically the point of this post is, give the game a chance and quit knocking it without playing it or without getting a firm understanding on it. The amount of negativity this game gets while so few people have played it and even fewer understanding it is making me fucking sick to my stomach. Quit whining.
Excellent post Viscant. After reading a lot of other people’s complaints about CFJ being ruined by Jedah, I started thinking that this game has no chance of being tournament worthy (which I think is an important quality. Remember SvC Chaos?). It’s nice to know that there’s some people (Viscant, Dr B) who don’t think it’s as bad as others make it out to be.
I guess the thing that worries me is that people who’ve played the game (inkblot, gunter)… reliable people… even they admit that the game is pretty crappy. I really can’t say anything since I haven’t played the game yet, but I always wanna look on the bright side of things.
Inkblot also says that A2 > A3, and Gunter isn’t exactly Mr. Positive thinking. Just because one’s an admin and one is someone who’s done lots of CC work doesn’t mean they are reliable on their opinions of what make a good game(after not even a month’s playtime no less)
In any case, good fucking show Viscant, this shit needed to be said because people are being fucking ridiculous already. Even just from acho vids, there are several things that will do good against a Jedah. Didn’t anybody else see Anakaris’s low Fierce, or Karin’s customs, or SSRK? It’s obvious Jedah is good, but its also obvious that if people got off his cock for 3 seconds and actually think about the matchup, there are tools to be used against him.
You and I dont always see things eye to eye on a lot of issues… but for once I totally agree with you… and I feel that people needs to give this game a chance… and realize the fact that whats is top tier today may not be so months from now when the game is broken down further and more knowledge is understood about the game…
I think its ashame to see influential people on this forum putting down this game without really giving the game a real chance… and allowing other people the opportunity to play game… a few videos and a couple hours of game play doesnt result in knowing the game fully. Thier influence can dramatically affect the future of this game and how serious people will take this game…
I hope other players who like or dislike the game a least give the game a chance… and let others who havent played the game yet… have a chance to come up with their own opinion before trashing a new game…
The thing that really bugs me is that, amid all the negativity, this thread was either totally ignored or just skimmed over. We already had a few people who’ve played (and are playing) CFJ more than just a few times, and they came back here to give us some gameplay info (some of which might have actually curbed the recent complaints). I don’t know about any of you, but I definitely appreciate that. They’re probably on Japan time, which is about 14 hours ahead of EST, and they certainly didn’t have to take time out of their days and nights to tell us anything about the gameplay.
But, you know, It doesn’t even matter. I’ve already made up my mind. I’m gonna buy the game and I’m gonna enjoy it. Go ahead and call me a sheep or a fanboy. But while you’re sittin’ here thinking of flames or insults to post, I’ll be havin’ fun with CFJ… me and my rushdown Hauzer. :karate:
I think this game will be tournament worthy. SVC was IMO the worse fighting game ever created with capcom characters in it. CFJ is 100X better than that piece of gutter trash. :tup:
CFJ is already being played in tournaments in japan anyway, so you cannot say this game isn’t tournament worthy when it has already been involved in a few tournaments.
I agree with viscant also, stop being so afraid of Jedah because there is always a way to get around characters. He’s like magneto in mvc2, people will get raped by him early in the games release and maybe will continue to, but like in mv2 there is a counter to magnus and there will be one to Jedah as well. You just have to adapt. :karate:

jedah reminds me of cvs2 cammy in the early days- everybody thought she was unbeatable/cheap/broken, but now she’s just a nuisance unless she’s in P/K groove. and besides, a new capcom game is a new capcom game, have some sort of optimism.
Would it be valid statement to say that Jeddah is the Sol of this game? After seeing the videos that have been posted I saw a lot of Jeddah players doing the same fucking shit over and over.
I think he will most likely be branded in the same category as Sol, real fucking annoying to fight against or watch after a couple of matches. Now let’s hope that the game is balanced like Guilty Gear or CvsS2 and not a one or two characters own all game(CvsS comes to mind immediately.
Other than that, I will not say anything else until I play the game and judge for myself. :rolleyes:
