I know it’s easy to hate on Capcom for the minimal effort they put into CFE, but i just wanted to point out that there are a lot of interesting things you can with it. If you haven’t already, check out the SRK front page and download James Chen’s Fun with CFE video. Here’s a direct link to the thread: http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79097
In case you guys at Udon were getting worried about what people thought of the game you helped make, i just wanted you guys to see that video so you know that there’s plenty of fun stuff to do in the game as long as you put a little effort into it.
Here’s hoping that the next fighting game Capcom makes will be as revolutionary as SF2, X-Men: COTA, X-Men vs Street Fighter, and SF3 were in their time. Capcom has definately set the bar for fighting game excellence over and over in the past. If they ever realize just how much hype they would get if they ever released a new Street Fighter game, i’m sure they’ll get off their asses and put some serious work into SF4. I mean, you can say that the series has been milked as much as you want, but the fact is that every video game magazine casually mentions SF4 at least once every couple of issues. So let’s hope that if Capcom JP or Capcom USA decides to make SF4, that Udon is somehow involved.
Thats an awesome video. I laughed my ass off when they zoomed in on Adon, I thought I was the only one who thought it looked pretty funny. Soon enough the hate will end and those who still enjoy it will be having fun.
I think Capcom have had more than an ample amount of time to do this. They know what works in Street Fighter, as some of the more popular SF games came out years ago.
As for other fighting games, Capcom have had time to see what makes a good 3D since the PS1 days. If they wait any longer, they will risk losing many chances of developing something new, as well as start off extrememly behind in 3D game developmnent. If you look at a game like Tekken, the series has evolved over time, and I believe T5 will be testiment to this. If Capcom think that they can just jump in there with a number 1, they need to rethink their plan.
I think the peak of anticipation for a new style of SF has come and gone. Only the die hard SF fans are still calling out for the game, and most of us would be happy to see a (truely) new SF game come out tomorrow.
Never gonna happen, (by just waiting). Go to any arcade and they still have a large array of SF arcades. Why are these people not playing 3D fighters? Why is SFEX Series not there? Because it’s not the graphics that make the game. They add to a game, but it’s the playability that hooks gamers. Again, the die hards will still be there in 5 years time saying SF should be 2D.
However, if Capcom make a good 3D game, they may learn that 3D Street Fighter doesn’t have to be bad. I think that SF becoming a 3D fighter is the way forward. It is time for a change, and hopefully one for the better.
Capcom Fighting Evo sucked, but it also shows promise because it sucked in the way that Street Fighter Alpha 1 sucked and Capcom vs. SNK 1 sucked. If there is ever a Capcom Fighting Evolution 2, it will be the greatest fighting game ever.
At least until someone finds the inevitable glitch/win button and then the fighting community will go “LOL CFE2 iz brokeded!!!” and then the community will deem it gay (despite the fact that the game will still be played in tourneys…)
Assuming you have not done so already, go to http://www.capcom.co.jp/fighting_jam and click on the last menu bar link before HOME. Right now it says “NEW” on top of it, but that won’t last forever. On the second page, there’s a CFJ group wallpaper with Udon artwork that i haven’t seen anywhere else.
CFE is the “Versus”(japanese movie) of the fighting game genre, it can be looked at as “glorified trash” and I guess in that sense it can be fun. Most will just hold out for CFE 2
Thanks for the Vids, awesome stuff! I’ve even done the Demitri ES Bat Spin ES Uppercut combo myself, but that’s 'cuz it’s in the Strat Guide! I’ve only seen the first Vid but that about sums up why I like this game, as I’m having lots of fun with it too!
Thanks for the link, Majestros… awesome wallpaper. However, for some reason I can’t download it (I don’t know if it’s my popup blocker or what). Anyway someone is willing to download the 1024 x 768 version and emailing it to me?
Yup ive seen this vid already. This game has some aswome stuff in it though. Im gonna try out these combos next time I play this game. The vid makes the game look much better. Lol!
Wrong, considering their are fighting games that have just recently come out like Def Jam: Fight 4 NY, that handle fighitng game mechanics very diffriently and did very well in terms of sales, plus the latest instalments of Tekken, DOA, and KOF, have all just been recently released and it gives Capcom a chance to see what their major competitors have done with the biggest fighting games series out there.
Oh and considering Capcom’s last few fighting game ventures (Capcom Fighting All Stars, Jo Jo’s Bizzare Adventure 2, Onimusha Blade Warriors, Capcom Fighting Evolution)have all tanked/failed, they probaly arent really looking to do more fighting games immediatly. Plus lack of fighters have been better due to the fact that its allowed the teams that usualy work on fighters, to work on new games/series, which Capcom has been successful with lately (Onimusha, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Monster Hunter, etc)

Dosnt really matter if Capcom is waiting to usher in a new genreration of SF players, for instance Capcom could make a SF game using a modified version of the Power Stone engine and make a hit if they choosed to do so.
What are these “arcades” you speak of, Ive never heard of them.
Refering to an aracde in the way you did, is basicly like saying that aracdes are where its at in today’s gaming market.
If you noticed, arcades are as dead as 2D games are.
Capcom has been sitting on their asses for THREE YEARS. If you count the fact CVS2 itself was rehashed, they had ample time to make a new, decent games (yes, PLURAL). Coming up with preposterous excuses to try and justify their lazyness is only showing how sad the whole thing actually is. Even worse is actually rewarding Capcom by BUYING the game.
Nobody would (or should) support an Udon comic with 99% re-used art and a plot partially re-used from older issues.
Then WHY WOULD YOU SUPPORT A GAME THAT DOES EXACTLY THE SAME?
Get a grip! Capcom is the abusive husband and you are the wife. Stop kidding yourself and jump out of the relationship.
Sorry for making you do work, but i dislike direct linking.
Haha i don’t think the game is selling all that well to begin with. Not many people on SRK like it, and the CFE strategy forum is basically dead for a new game. I don’t think it’s necessary to start a boycott campaign. There should be a forum button for the stuff you are saying, since it gets rehashed in every discussion. The truth is that i enjoy some things about CFE and while i appreciate all your points, i’m simply tired of the pessimism.
The Devil May Cry series, the Onimusha series, the Viewtiful Joe series, Resident Evil Outbreak, Resident Evil 4, and Monster Hunter show otherwise.
WTF are you talking about?
You do relize Capcom makes games ASIDE from fighting games? Why the hell are you so focused on their fighting games, rather then the fact that at this time they’re more focused on other things aside from fighters?
Umm GioGio for PS2 doesn’t fall into that mainly because it’s not a fighter. And if you’re talking about the upgrade in Heritage for the Future, that did decent in the time it came out, didn’t have staying power though.
Haha your hate for Capcom still knows no bounds, I’m still curious as to why you post here.
Not hating, a lot of your remarks are valid and I agree with many of them, it’s just that every post of yours towards anything Capcom related is like negative.
