CFE Afterthoughts

Do you guys now where to get mugen at or is that consider ilegal to find where the link of is at on here, cause I think it seems like mugen isn’t one but I don’t know. I would really like to try mugen out but how good of a pc can it work on.

Too many stupid haters in this thread who probably played game for 5 minutes generally suck and got raped by hauzer and now are pissed. I shit over this thread

I guess I’m the only person on the planet who thinks this game is better than CvS2. (Some bias here maybe…I thought CvS1 was better than the sequel; the overall turtle-ness of the game was a big turnoff)

I haven’t played much of CFE yet so I can only comment on so much. First off I don’t care if the backgrounds look like trash or if the sprites look hideous; doesn’t matter to me. The game has a very old school feel to it, which I like.

In all honestly I think Capcom could have put more effort into the game though…better bgs, better sprites, better music, better announcer…but, so far, I think the game is fun. (It would have been nice to have a SF1 cast…Adon, Gen, etc.) [No Sagat please!] :badboy:

I suppose, just like MKD, after NEC5 I’ll be able to formulate a concrete opinion on this game, considering I’ve only played the CPU so far. I hate Pyron btw. :annoy:

EWAShock - you hate this game simply because it doesn’t have your cheezy ass Blanka/Sagat and you know it. Guile owns u 4 free 4-ever!

The game is tons of fun.

Graphics aren’t hot, play Half-Life 2.
Music sucks ass, turn it off; put in your own on your sound system.
Backgrounds suck; stop mashing and play the game.

Congradulations, I just owned everyone who said the game sucked!

I’ve seen maybe one post on gameplay, and it was bitching about how they weren’t perfect copies. “HEY THAT WOULD BE A REHASH! OMG!!! THEY MODIFIED CHARACTERS PROPERTIES!? THAT ISN’T RIGHT!!!I WANT YUN’S 70% COMBOS INTO EASY MODE BULLSHIT” You people and this forum in general really are pushing the “total scrub” limit in my book. If it isn’t being spoonfed to you what’s wrong with the game, tiers, strategies or anything else, you have to come up with pathetic graphic or other nonsense posts dissing it.

Maybe you should try playing the game? I’ve spent over 8 hours playing it last night, trying to perfect Yun’s new combos, Urien’s new traps, Leo’s awesome poking game, and breaking down their match-ups against other characters. I didn’t know fighting games were supposed to be beautiful or whatever the fuck you people are looking for in a game now-aday.

Don’t make me get the fucking wahbulance picture in this thread, ladies. Pick up the game for 30 bucks, play it to break it down and have the time of your lives. Or go back to bitching about not being able to do 90% damage in one combo because the character was changed.

Time of our lives?

Yeah, ok there buddy.

I just hope that CFE2 will be released with a ton of new characters and maybe a groove system. Kinda like CVS was just kof vs street fighter, but then CVS2 added a bunch of new things. Hopefully CFE is just kinda the main Capcom games, and CFE2 will add some more obscure characters.

I’m having more fun w/this game than cvs2.

I don’t know how good cfe2 would be fi they allow groove switching. You guys wouldn’t like the idea of Gief in DSGroove would you? I mean, look at it. Chain combos and poke strings that end in a 33% spd?

Not that I’d mind…

All Of You Complainers Complain Mostly (mostly) About The Graphics…which Is Pretty Damn Ghey.

Its funny you mention the BGM cause I actually turn the BGM and played it listening to MF Doom , Mos Def new album. Anyways…

Changes are always welcome in any game, in this case fighting games. I expected certain aspects to be different but when it game itself that I’m trying to break down comes off as if its a jumbled mees with no coherency whatsoever, would that make anybody really want to dig deeper?

I personally don’t see any actual potential for longevity but I did’nt rule it out, I’m just going by my own personal impressions of the game.

-“CFJ has really a shoddy, sluggish feel to its gameplay. This could be attributed to how a game feels in its early stages of play to a new player but it really feels sluggish, moreso than any other Capcom game I’ve played for the first time.”

I even pointed out that could be a factor, the fact remains I’m going by my first impression in the few hours that I did play it and my post reflects how I feel about the game. I assessed an opinion from my own gameplay experience, of actually trying to gain a better understanding of the gameplay and its potential intricacies. Of course all of that can’t be found in one night but I shouldn’t feel like I’ve been gyped especially if its supposed to be a new game.

I honestly respect your opinion of CFJ, because just like I’ve made my own individual assessment of the game so have you. You never know, you could be right about CFJ, as for me currently I’m apalled with it. Concerning certain aspects that aren’t there I’m actually glad that Genei Jin isn’t in CFJ…Genei Jin would’ve made Yun the same ol same ol from 3s. Same with Sakura and her A-Groove CC and 1 frame link into CC. That’s not what I’m so hurt by. I’m hurt that the overall presentation of the game is irrefutably horrible both aesthetically and gameplay wise.

I can only go by what I’ve experienced in playing the game for the few hours that I’ve played it. I can only go by my own summation and I don’t think I need to be flamed for that. And honestly, it’s not about a game looking “beautiful”, I just think that a finished game should never look like its still in a preliminary phase. Capcom fighting games have always have a pretty decent quality aesthetically along with wonderful gameplay and depth. There’s no reason for them to randomly stop, the graphics are a dimunitive part of the presentation when you get down to it, but its still a part of it nonetheless.

I think that in this game style, they wouldn’t allow groove changing. If you look at Capcom fighting sequels, dynamics from predecessor to successor doesn’t change that much. For instance, CvS games had groove changing, rolling, dashing and running, so I expect the the next installment (if there will be another installment) to stay within the same parameters. In Alpha games, they allowed groove switching, but those grooves are within the lineage of the series, not anything outside of it. In MvC games, all punch dashing and 2 button-1 motion supers are only in this series, and not in SF3, Darkstalkers, etc. I highly doubt that you will see groove changing in CFE since the concept of this genre is to pit characters and their fighting engine from one game against other characters and their fighting engine from another game. Most probable is that it will be an extra option as a bell and whistle to the console version.

If anything, CFE2 will use other batches of characters or add to the batch from each game as opposed to exposing different game characters to different game engines.

Yeah, this game is garbage, but I like it. It’s like a reunion special of a show that was canceled in the eighties. Everyone looks like crap now, they’re all old and broken, and they aren’t funny anymore, but it’s still good to see that they’re alive.

And havign an Alex v. Zangief fight is an exciting novelty.

Basically, this game is MUGEN for 30 bucks, with some rare CPS3 sprites thrown in. If Capcom wants to go this route, I think they should just buy the rights to MUGEN, sell it for 20 bucks and release an expansion pack CD of it with a bunch of sprites on it every couple of month, for 10 bucks or so.

They could have the SF2 expansion pack, the Mega Man Power Battles Expansion Pack, the Final Fight Expansion Pack, etc etc. And every CD could have a couple of new chacters on it, like an Ingrid style thing, just to show that Capcom still “cares”.

I mean, why not? The only problem is that doing this would totally break the game in terms of balance and what not. But does anyone really expect this game to deliver in terms of game system and balance and all that technical crap? If so, they are living in 1995, and need to wake up.

The day of the 2D fighter meaning anything is over.

That beign said, I think we’re lucky that CFE exists at all. Sure, it’s garbage. But it’s nostalgia inspiring garbage. And it’s fun for a lark.

I’ve played through it for a while now so I can put together some thoughts:

When I think of a 2D fighting game, I really could care less about the graphics or whether the sprites are “grainy” or whatever other description you want to apply. We’re all entrenched playing a 2D game while the majority of fighting game fans are playing beautiful looking 3D games. In fact, if you were to ask a 3D fan or even a casual gamer what they think of 2D fighting games whether gorgeous or not, they all say the same thing “they still make 2D fighters? It looks so old.” Get over the graphics, it’s not why we’re all playing SF.

The music is atrocious, no doubt about it. I took the time to lower the BGM and keep the SFX up. Problem solved.

As for the gameplay…

I’ve beaten the game using just about every style of play. I found the SF2 characters really limited because it felt like I was playing C Groove characters that were raped for everything that made them C Groove. ST closed the gap without super jumps and dashes because the screen (so to speak) was smaller. This game leaves these giant gaps between characters and no means to close the gaps on ground or in the air. Definitely not something I appreciated. I was happy to see that the characters had their combos from CvS2 while retaining some priorities from ST though (Guile Flash Kick Super vacuums again thank goodness).

I haven’t gotten into Warzard very much but Kenji is easily the most fun character I’ve played in any game over the last few years. Tons of options for keep away and rush down with a massive variety of moves. The power up system and Ultimate Guard should prove very interesting at a high level of play when people learn tricks with it. I found the Warzard characters a little too heavy on their poking priority but otherwise they’re balanced.

The SF3 characters really need adjusting to for the regular 3S players. The parrying system is a fine hybrid of 3S and CvS2 (I always found P Groove far too difficult in comparison to 3S). Projectile parrying timing is annoying though. Large gaps between parries will make for an odd transition that wasn’t necessary at all. It’s odd getting used to the 3S guys moving with that kind of speed (especially Urien) but hardly something that will prove detrimental later on. The people complaining about 3S guys getting raped have (from what I’ve seen) complained about things that were never meant to be kept (unblockables) to begin with. I’m disappointed in the lack of Genei Jin though.

DS characters will prove the top tier when it’s all said and done. They have massive priority on tons of moves. Their chains just keep going regardless of parry or UG. Their supers are ridiculous (Jedah Underwater Super smoked me for 50% damage, which is insane). I’m glad to see the damage is toned down on their chains otherwise these characters would be overpowered beyond belief. Their defense is rather poor as well, I assume to balance things out. As of now they seem the favourite to beast in tournaments.

Ingrid has all the tools I’ve loved in C Groove but I haven’t sat down with her for any length of time. I hate rolling on mediums and her roll is crappy anyway. I had huge trouble super cancelling and then I find out her supers are bar specific. Too early to make a solid statement on her.

Overall the game is enjoyable, just limited. I think CvS2 really set the bar for what games like these need to live up to. It had 40+ characters using 6 grooves and a ratio system so your possibilities seemed endless. When you drop the characters in 1/2, lock down the grooves and make no asthetic improvements, it’s no surprise fans will be turned off. I hope people keep playing though and discover that it’s a solid fighter.

The GTASF is having it’s first tourney tomorrow for this game and I’ll post footage over the weekend.

How is that wisdom? He complained about the graphics and things being changed from previous character incarnations. Godamn SRK should be the last place infested with graphics whores…

EDIT: I didn’t direct that at Nokato, I springboarded off into a tangent. Wanted to say that because I respect Nokato for posting a negative opinion that’s not “OMG MOOGEN!!1!!1” and actually articulating it as well.

Im confused as to why so many people are complaining about the music, i found it hummable. And it certainly isnt any worse then MVC2 or sf3 music.

I like the Ruins stage =D

i thought the music is better than other recent sf games.

Thumbs up, Soldier!

…is it me, or does everytime Anakaris float in the air you think “AHVBx3!!!”. I almost reflexively go to do the motion every time.

–jedi//.

It’s obvious you have no real issue with this game besides graphics, so you may leave the thread and return to whatever it is you do.

I somehow missed Kugler’s post earlier, damn we are in hella agreement there. Kugs knows what’s up, I mean for gods sake, if you want graphics there’s half life 2. If you want 2d graphics, then Udon makes a mighty fine comic from what I hear. Note that FGD cries about lack of variety and lack of balance ALL THE TIME, and now it looks like we get both and they look for ways to hate it. Fucking tools, go play MKD or some shit, or go talk about how NBC is going to be good(AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!)
