CFE Afterthoughts

c/s. I’m not feeling this game at all. I promised myself I’d go in with my usual “open mind”, but I lost out to my hype to play a new 2-D fighter.

I don’t think I’ll be playing too much of this.

is it just me or do the customs not give tick damage when blocked…

I feel my $30 would’ve been better spent on a dinner at some restaurant.

It’s too slow, and it doesn’t feel new at all despite me not having played the DS or Warzard characters.

In MvC2, the SF characters were given improved moves and dashing and superjumps etc… they were adjusted to the vs system (and most of them are still crap… who uses SF chara in mvc2, and servbot is a joke character).

In CFE I believe they purposely tried to keep the characters as true to their original form as possible.

Played it at NCR3 over the weekend.

-Game speed is slowish. Like if you even wanna do simple jump in combos, you’ll have to relearn the timing. And I got thrown a couple times because even though I saw the throw coming, I tried to reverse it with crouching Jab, but it didn’t come out in time.

-You can combo off of Rose’s AC again. Rose seems pretty good, but I need to learn some CCs or something, because I was doing very little damage at a time (she’d also be better if you gave her her 3 other supers back…). Can’t combo into super as anti-air, but it works as anti-air by itself. No combo into Soul Throw as anti-air either. Crouching Fierce works well as anti-air, but seems to lose to Ryu’s jumping Fierce/Roundhouse. Seems OK vs Guile- c.FP beats jumpins, and can turtle as much as you want, but Soul Reflect timing is slightly changed. Starts slower and ends quicker. Maybe just seems to start slower because of change in game speed. Crouching Forward seemed to be a big problem, but I saw Sirlin beating it with Rose’s crouching Roundhouse later. Loaded Guile dangerous, obviously.

Soul Spark still pushes away. Dress win pose that used to be for Perfects is now random. Ummm, what else. Soul Reflect with Jab (the absorb one) gets you a good amount of meter. Standing far Roundhouse still good, crouching Strong still good. I got two to link, but it’s either strict timing, or you need a counter-hit or something. And you can combo after Fierce Soul Reflect (the upwards one) if you hit with it. I linked a standing Strong, but I wasn’t even expecting it to hit so I dunno what you can combo after that. Soul Spiral (the drill) pushes them far away. Like, all the way across the screen. Slide (d/f+Forward) has less recovery time now. Crouching Roundouse can be canceled, and so can far standing Forward IIRC. Soul Piede (towards + Roundhouse) from SFA2G and SFA3 is gone now.

-Guy pretty good. Good offensive. Dash move kick with roundhouse (the overhead kick) now knocks down. Crouching Fierce good as anti-air, qcb+p still goes through fireballs. Flip grab thing can grab people in the corner like on PSX/DC SFA3, don’t remember if he still has air throw. Crouching Forward can be cancled after second part, I think.

-Sak good. Strong ground game as usual, A2/A3 fireball is back. Get out of the habit of poking with the hurricane kick now. Still has CvS2 divekick. Crouching Fierce still good as anti-air.

-Bison good. Strong normals, dangerous with meter, Head Stomp good.

-Gief good. Lariat invincible, didn’t check if he had the crazy anti-air thing with crouching Short from A3, or the crazy jumping hitbox. But yeah, Final Atomic Buster did like 65% to a lot of characters.

-Dimitri not looking bad. He actually LOOKS terrible, however.

-This game is exceptionally ugly. On PS2 I’m sure they’ll “solve” that problem by making it blurry like they did to SF Anniversary Edition, but jesus it was ugly. They really shoulda stayed with Naomi instead of moving to System 246. Not only does it look worse than GGXX or 3s, it looks worse than CvS2 and A3. Still better than KOF though!

Unlocked Shin Akuma just now. From what I gather, he seems to be what Shin Gouki would be in CvS2 with unlimited groove points and EVERYTHING turned on. Parrying, rolling, chain combos, the works. Don’t know about alpha counters. Some stuff I probably missed, but I’m not touching this game in the next few hours due to burning myself out earning stuff. btw, to get to him, I believe you have to win all your matches without losing a round, he should appear after beating up Pyron. Correct me if I’m missing info like needing super finishes or whatnot.

Note to self, DO NOT play this game for 4 hours straight earning the themes. It’s almost not worth it. My sanity’s going away.

Beating the game with everyone including the boss characters gets you the ability to hear character themes while you fight in Arcade mode. You have to hold square and enter arcade mode. It’s not made for versus mode though, and it’ll go away if a challenger beats the guy who enters arcade mode, totally lame.

I did beat the game w/out losing a round, I’m trying to do it w/super finishes but fuckers just get out of it at the most inconvenient times haha.

So outside of Pyron and Akuma, thats it?

Parrying is still gay in this game. I need to test more shit out w/that though.

And super cancelling was mentioned in the other CFE thread. It certainly feels like it was from xbox cvs2. Not like 3s. Fucken lame. fb motion+2full fb motions to get the super. 3motions!.. unless I’m missing something…

The game is pretty much crap - ok at first glance, it’s kinda fun, but there are just some really painful things about it, most of which is graphics and I can pretty much look past it. The BGs are a sin, the music as well, the SF3 characters still look so much better than everyone else and it’s sad how little frames there are for some things compared to others for the Warzard characters, and Ryu looks like Hell still. Putting that aside, SF3 characters play pretty nicely, the SF2 characters are deadly, Gief is the man, even though he plays kinda underwater, and I don’t like that his bitch slap has no range, SPD range and damage is perfect. Leo is hell, so choppy, his attacks have hideous placement, his SPD is intentionally watered down it seems, his lightening DP attack is kinda neat, but the fierce one is just so slow. DS characters are fun with the easy chaining, take a lot of damage though. I haven’t really tried any Alpha 3 characters yet. Bison is fun as Hell and plays a lot like, if not just like CvS2. That’s all for now, gonna play some more.

Picked it up today and am very disappointed. The game is slow as hell! Graphics are disgusting to look at! (worse than cvs1) Game play and combos are timed really shitty. The darkstalker characters own the fucking game with the exception of ingrid and the boss guy I forgot his name already. The game seems to have been put together way too quickly and it way too crappy. I hope they make a sequel with better gameplay & better graphics.

I think it’s a decent 2-d fighter, give it some time ppl! I’ve mainly been learning Ryu, and he seems pretty decent. F.FP advances you pretty far, and if done meaty can lead to an easy throw (F.Fp must whiff). Mix-up w/F.MP overhead late meaty, and c.lk into Shoryuken combo when u have meter. That does impressive dmg. And of course the c.MK-Hado. I think he has some potential, been playin w/ some 3s ppl and so far everyone is feeling :tup: :clap:

several people now have said that the combo timing are shit. i’m now agreeing with everyone. response for combos sometimes you have to press the button twice for it to respond.

i dont kno if they meant to do this. but anyways that’s one of the biggest draw backs for me is the controls not responding at times.

The game is basically barely functional in the sense of everything meshing and the graphics make everyone cry.

That’s wierd, when I watched those match videos it seemed faster than CVS2 to me. Especially the DS & Warzard matches.

BTW if you know the game is going to bad why are you guys STILL going to buy it and then complain evn more?:confused::rofl: I still have high hopes for this game cuz it still has months of playing to see if it has any worth. From what I’ve been hearing it seems that game is just different not bad. Priorties have changed moves have lessened and increased in damage and range, stuff that’s expected.

I mean did you expct Sagat’s C.FP to have the same priority like in CVS2?:razz:

Because they’re retarded. As I said earlier, I don’t think I’ve heard a valid reason on why its a bad game aside from aesthetics. The game engine is faster than CvS2, don’t know why people make shit up to try and make the game sound shitty. Next thing you know people are going to be claiming CFJ looted their village and raped the farmer’s daughter…

What I don’t understand is why people are saying the game is slow when it looks hella fast and tight in all the videos I have seen?

I don’t post on SRK much, but isn’t it the general cosensus to hate on a game when it first comes out? If so… Come off it. Seriously.
