Cerebella Strategy and Match-Up Thread: All that...practice

Does everyone know that Double’s Cat Heads count as Projectiles, and thus can be Reflected?

really? thats pretty awesome. i wonder if it is possible to have 2 cerebellas repeatedly reflect projectiles back at each other?

Hmm… “Now for something reflectacular!”

Well, anyway, it’s Doubly awesome because the thing cancels all other projectles it touches, so you hit that first one and all the ones behind it get canceled. Now if only Cerebella could do… something… to hit from full screen. I don’t think lvl 3 would hit fast enough if they shake off stun.

possibly could work if you immediately cancel the reflect shot into the level 3. but then if the opp blocks it and you dont get the stagger, youve likely just wasted 3 meters. doing it on reaction to a stagger will be waaay too slow i reckon.

That’s a brilliant thing to know and another thing on my list to try.

i tried the catheads thing in a match online, unfortunately the reflected projectile goes too high for it to hit heads that are moving across the floor, and they can still hit you. i figure youve probably only got one shot at it as well until you just get totally overrun by them.

Well, yeah, but if they are hitting buttons then they aren’t blocking (Unless I understand them wrong). Then they get staggered, and you can either follow up or switch out or whatever. It’s not perfect protection, but her Reflector doesn’t ever work as well as it needs to. It’s only ever for temporary reprieve.

Edit: It doesn’t cancel them forever, since each time they hit the punch button a head starts up as a new projectile (I’d assume), but it’ll cancel any actively coming at you as projectiles, which is all you need to connect the reflected diamond thing.

i wonder if changing the command to back, downback, down could help its utitlity. atm its impossible to do on reaction, you have to make a super good read to get it to work most times ive found.

Projectile reflect canceled into Level 3.

Possibly the best thing you can do to someone to make them feel like shit.

Does anyone else think that Painwheel V Cerebella is the stupidest fucking thing on the face of the earth?

Not really. As long as you space yourself, it shouldn’t be too difficult a match-up.

All of her air moves (j.hk, j.mp, j.hp) can be supered really easy on reaction (Diamond Dynamo) because they are active for a long time. Cerebella really shines in the corner, and if their back is to the wall than they start getting restless. If they go for fly high up, Excellabella them; If they do it low, Super. Then, you corner bnb minus the OTG.

Don’t Command run when she’s in the air unless you are doing something tricky. Her j.mp and j.hk shred through it like some kind of shredding wheel of pain. I can’t ever get Kanchou to connect against someone in the air, so that’s been useless for me. I don’t know how people are using Pummel horse, but it doesn’t work for me either.

Use Devil Horns when she likes to float over your head for mix-up assists or that falling j.hk. The only way they could possibly not get hit is if they cancel their fly and block, which I’ve never seen a Painwheel do when directly overhead. It also leads into a full, OTG left over combo since they are higher than the ground. The invincibility of the Devil Horns should also protect you from any assist that was called, but it’s not a very good coverage: it’ll only last for a moment.

Cere’s j.mp and j.hp beat out every air move she has (except j.hp, which you have to time correctly because of the hatred guard). Link the j.mp into j.hp every time, you’ll score yourself wins that way. After enough times of getting bitch smacked out the air, they start hesitating and try to back up a bit before flying. Which is, ya know, dangerous against bella.

s.lk… I don’t like the move. It just looks stupid to me. However, against Painwheel, s.lk does wonders for me against jumping attacks (that aren’t j.hp). c.hp is great when they are higher up and you have room and time, but when they are right there, s.lk. you can also chain it into s.mp, c.hp, air followup. And, uh, stuff. Oh yeah, s.hp works really well against incoming Painwheel as well, since she’s incoming meaning she isn’t blocking, you are should be holding back to block in case you miss, and she probably will throw out an attack, meaning that unless hse random supers, she’s getting nailed into the ground.

If she’s on the ground, bully her with s+f.hp, she can’t do anything about it. Don’t go for Command grabs unless you are positive. You can punish her projectile with Battle Toads. You should pushblock everything, because Painwheel is one of the few characters that I know of where Cerebella benefits from creating that distance. Command Grabs don’t work often because Painwheel is always trying to get back in the air. So… any situation where you are capable of using a command grab, use Excellabella instead. I don’t miss with it very often.

Watch for Hatred Guard. It normally has a slow start up, but it can be dangerous if you aren’t paying attention. If you see Hatred Guard go off once or twice, then they are trying to “parry” your attacks and combo so they can get back in the air. So, start throwing out command grabs. They only really work against Painwheels after they’ve given up on flight. A sign that they aren’t going to fly is Hatred Guard. CONNECT THE DOTS!

You objective is not to beat Painwheel, but to beat the player. Make them so scared of the thing they rely on that they can’t function. A grounded Painwheel is not a very big threat. Hit hard and fast, right from the beginning. Give them no time to think that they can get around your gdlk AA options. Of course, if they’re really good you won’t be able to psyche em out THAT bad, but you can make them think twice every time they fly. Hesitation = Death. But, yeah, I think that’s it. Make sure they have a fear of heights.

You’re gonna have to post videos of Cerebella V Painwheel in the video thread, because, as of right now, nothing is more annoying than Painwheel to me.

I’ll try, but the camera I used (a built in camera on my laptop) has been acting up.

I think that’s a really important point. When they’re good with their assists it’s a lot harder to get into that optimal range, but it’s worth it to discourage flight.

have you played against any good painwheels yet?

lol Painwheel is a bitch to fight against with Bella, I can tell coz I use both characters and I can notice how derpy it is for Bella if my painwheel is all upclose and personal, plus I’ve played my share of painwheels… Bella definitely has tools to deal with the matchup, its still a pain though.

A matchup thats really stupid though is Double, fuckin hate this gross stupid looking character so godamn much.

It’s been ages but there was a guy at SNL who seemed pretty good with her. I do need more games against him now that we have more experience. I need more games full stop.

hmmm… yeah, me to as well. i havent played since playing you save for one offline session. i’d go on more but our connection is funky, and it can only be worse now that my connection has takn a shit dive into the crapper (getting variable speeds from 500 kb/s to 4 Mb/s) compared to my speed when we played which was around 9-10 Mb/s and since im going to be starting a 4-1 roster at the mines my time will be even more limited… basically to the point that i dont think i will have time for fighting games :frowning:

it sucks that the NBN is taking so long to come into fruition. sigh… where do you live anyways, i do want to get some games in… bad connection or not.

sorry to you bellas for this being offtopic al i know s that its a bitch to play against bella with painwheel if the bella player is content to sit back and try to snipe via her AA’s: cr.hp,j.hp and excelebella.

Double matchup seems manageable.

I say this because I’m nowhere as good as Combo Knight and was able to take rounds off.

Painwheel V Bella though, I can fight the shittiest painwheel and as long as they know their bnb(WHICH IS FUCKING STUPID, PEOPLE WANT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT CEREBELLA’S DAMAGE BUT THAT BITCH CAN DO 60% 2 V 1 AND EVERY SINGLE TOUCH IS POTENTIAL RESET MAN THAT’S JUST DUMB) they can own my soul.

Oh, just found something new vs Painwheel. When she’s up in the air, around the range where you know where she’ll start attacking but you don’t have any reliable options at that angle, Lock n’ Load will get you to the other side and may knock them on their way down. I’ve been using the mp version (even though I just learned it 5 minutes ago), it seems like the best version being fast with armor. Although, HP one may get them to attack quickly when they wouldn’t have otherwise. Still have to experiment.
