If it works on console fine then it’s probably a PC compatibility issue
Thanks Vicko and gahrling, it turns out it was an issue with Windows 8; the Cerberus reads fine on my Windows 7 notebook. Shame that it doesn’t work, even with forced 360 mode. Any ideas? I’ll look for those 360 drivers someone mentioned a while back, but from what I’ve read so far, Cerberus doesn’t play well with Windows 8.
Though I’m a little disappointed with compatibility issues, I’m just glad I don’t have to send it back to FocusAttack!
The fact that it doesn’t work on win8 in forced 360 mode is weird, and makes absolutely no sense to me.
If anyone with a win8 setup wants to try something as simple as shortening their USB cable to reduce noise as a test it would be appreciated. I don’t have Win8, only Win7 x64. Maybe Win8 is more picky, I’m not sure. Forced mode for 360 should route everything as being identical as if it was the basic stock stick.
I can’t get my dual modded Cerberus boards to work on any of my computers, all on Win7. On console they work fine, on their own they work fine, only when dual modded is it when my computers reject them as an unknown device.
Forcing 360 mode makes no difference.
Can you try shortening the cable? I’m wondering if the OS is being super picky about noise, it’s the only thing that makes sense since I have and many others have Win7 without issues.
Sorry i missed the part about working on consoles
Hey guys, I’m just wondering if I could use this thing to help make a dual mod easier for me.
I’m currently planning on padhacking a spare wired 360 controller (newer model), and was considering adding PS3 support one way or another. I originally wanted to use my extra SIXAXIS controller, but the lack of common ground pretty much eliminates that possibility.
I’m hoping to use the Cerberus as a replacement to a PS3 board, but I’m a little confused on whether or not it supports L3 and R3. I could care less about the stick axises but I’ve got a few extra buttons I wanted to use on my box, and was hoping I could hook them up (I’ve got an “ABORT” button from Fransisco Rush I could use as R3, and bind that to X-Factor in Marvel or something :P).
I’m also just now hearing that the late wired 360 controllers ALSO aren’t common ground though, which could potentially complicate things.
Would I still be able to wire a Cerberus up to an Official 360 controller properly, and have functioning L3 and R3 buttons? Otherwise, I’ll probably just skip dual modding for now and just make it run off the 360 pad.
By default R3/L3 aren’t read/reported but a firmware update could be done to allow them and read it based on the RS and LS input.
So I installed the Cerberus into my brand new Mad Catz Fightstick Pro 360 earlier today. I followed the instructions and re-assembled the stick. Everything seems to be working fine except the Start and Back (or Start and Select for PS3) buttons. I did the button QC on my PC and all the other buttons register fine. The Start and Back button do not register in MAME or PS3. I’ve tried to re-seating the quick disconnect wires for both buttons. I’ve tried switching the quick disconnect wires with no luck. I’ve even tried swapping ribbon cables 4 and 5 (since they are the same exact cable) with the same results, to where all of the buttons work except for Start and Back. Is there any other troubleshooting I can do to try to resolve this issue?
Is the Tournament Lock on or off?
It was on…
The second I switched it off and plugged the stick into the PS3/PC, the Start and Back/Select buttons work. Thank you very much for your help!!!
I’ve got the Windows 8 problem :’(
The modding is easy (it was my first time doing such a thing), and i’ve been using it for about 6 months without a problem (Win7 PC and PS3, no problem). But i’ve changed my PC with a windows 8.1 and the device is not recognised, even in passthrough mode (X held down while pluging the device) which i repeat works great on my old Windows 7 PC.
Hope there’s a solution coming… it would break my heart to un-mod it and lose the PS3 fonctionnality :’(
Did anyone having the win8 issue attempt to shorten the cable like I suggested?
I don’t have a Win8 box to test a setup on, it could be how the OS enumerates, it could be simply not happy with line noise. Either way I need to get a hold of a machine running that OS to try to figure out what’s going on any further.
Yo! Are you going to be bringing some of these to Evo with you? Think I’m going to need to pick one up.
Yep, I’ll have these with me in both formats for sure.
Hey guys I recently bought a cerberus to mod my Razer Atrox. Well nothing I do is working. PS3 wont work, and PC wont work. the only time i can get a response from anything is on pc and starting it on bootloader. I updated the firmware and everything. It just wont work unless in bootloader. Someone please help me I’ve already sunk in at least 12 hours straight on this cerberus alone.
See if you can still use the bootloader and upload this firmware. I believe on twitter you mentioned it wanted the Atmega16U4 during install.

If you used the firmware that’s already linked in my website that won’t work since you uploaded firmware for a different chip, sorry about getting this too you so late but EVO’s been a bit busy.
Hey its no problem at all bud. I’m just glad your sticking to your product and trying to help me out.
Hey thanks for the link, it recognizes the cerberus on pc now. time to rewire my whole stick
Always, I never want someone who tries out my product to have a sour time.
Ahh, good. I dunno what the hell happened, I test every board but perhaps in haste I missed that one for final programming, or you tried updating firmware before normally plugging it in… I dunno. Either way, glad you’re up and running, sorry for all the trouble.
