Cell phone thread. (Questions, reviews, issues with carriers, etc)

Are any other networks getting the galaxy S because im interested in getting it but i refuse to leave sprint and is there any word of when the new blackberry bold is coming out?

I’m going to assume that you mean the Galaxy S II, which a lot of different carriers are getting:

Considering this is my phone right now:

I’ve been meaning to get the Galaxy S II once it launches here, but than I saw this today:

In all honesty, I might have to wait and see what happens withing the next couple of weeks. I don’t think I can handle this Krzr much longer…

Well, as much as I hate not having a physical keyboard, I’m about to go ahead and get a new smartphone without one next week. Don’t like being locked into a contract or paying twice as much for the level of service I need, so I’ll be picking up one of these when it comes out next Tuesday. As it will be my first Android phone, does anyone have any suggestions on things I should do or software I should install when I get it?

this thread kinda died out but Mango is out everybody for wp7 and its BEAUTIFUL puts it on par with android and iphone now loads of new features and multitasking this is what it should have been when it launched

Yeah the thread kinda died off. Probably because everyone’s tied into contracts or there’s nothing that’s worthy of upgrading amongst the current crop of phones.

I’m currently using a Google Nexus S. Stock ROM (2.3.6).

I’m currently using the Launcher7 replacement and so far it seems good. Interface is so simple I want to give a full fledged WP7 phone a try next (but I’ll wait for something that’s worth upgrading to).

Mango update for WP7 is SICK. It even reads text messages to you over Bluetooth and can do voice to text over Bluetooth.

Loving every minute of mango. Now the only real downside of WP7 are the portable gaming companies not porting to it yet. I know Gamevil was waiting for Mango to see if the userbase would grow before they started developping for it.

Thinking about getting a Samsung Galaxy S II Epic from Sprint when I renew. What’s SRKs opinion on it?

Wait on it.

Samsung/Google will have an announcement on October 11.

Nexus Prime teased in promo video? - http://thisismynext.com/2011/10/05/nexus-prime-teased-samsung-video/

This is crazy: http://thisismynext.com/2011/10/07/samsung-google-postpone-galaxy-nexus-launch/

The first thing that comes to my mind is that this has something more to do with making Android 4.0 tablet ready and the upcoming release of Kindle Fire.

That or Google’s ongoing patent disputes.

Samsung GS2 or wait for Prime? Specs can’t be THAT different?

If you’re not in a rush, just wait to see what the Prime is all about. Besides it will likely be the first phone with Ice Cream Sandwich.

apk’s have already been leaked for some of Google’s apps that were designed for the Ice Cream Sandwich launch. Google Music is looking real good.

Man reading the first few pages of this thread really make you appreciate how far things have come in such a short time. So just started looking at the smart phones, thinking about switching from T-Mobile to Verizon, but I think I’m gonna stay.

My contract isn’t up 'till early next year and I figure that’s when the phones will be that much smoother since kinks are getting worked out. Still doing my HW in the meantime.

It’s looking like GX2 from T-Mobile is the standard I’m using when looking at Droids, but the WP is looking nice too. I wouldn’t mind the Iphone but I’m not looking at those unless I switch carriers.

When phones come out with OS and what not, is this generally the time right now? Thoughts from other people on T-Mobile on what else I should look for? I just want a phone that does cool shit, but does it well. I read BIG WORM’s post in the Android thread about the G2X, and that thing just seems to shit on everything at the moment.

So are edge-to-edge screens really expensive at the moment? I 'm looking at reviews of phones and it seems like the could still add another inch to the existing phones without having to make the actual unit bigger. Are the edge-to-edge more likely to break, maybe?

I was looking at videos for the Samsung Note and that thing is behemoth, haha, but it seems like Samsung could make it a little bigger if they went with ete.

t-mobile has a unlimited data/unlimited text/100 minutes only for $30 a month starting oct 16. i don’t use my phone much so i actually buy $25/500 meg data for a gophone (overpriced i know), 1000 minutes a year (~$80 on ebay), and then just have to pay $5/month for 10 megs of data so the 500 megs roll over. so i usually spend ~$160 a year for my smartphone

How does the Windows phone stack up vs the heard?

I like the simplicity of it…

With an Iphone, I’d be to tempted to hack it

I just picked up a Samsung Infuse. It’s a 100% upgrade from my iPhone 3G and I love it. I will never buy a non android phone again. Piracy at it’s finest!

Samsung/Google event now moved to October 19: http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/13/samsung-confirms-ice-cream-sandwich-event-on-october-19/

WP7 is great when it comes to simplicity. I like the clean layout. In order for WP7 to be successful, it needs better apps and developers. Wait to see what Nokia has to offer at the end of this month (Nokia World event).
