Cell phone thread. (Questions, reviews, issues with carriers, etc)

G1 terrible battery life so you have wifi, bluetooth off as well? 5 hours is crazy, what do you guys normally do with your phone?

For those that have a Nexus ONe, what are your opinions of it? I wanted to swap out my HTC Magic for it but I thought I wait and see how it does first

It’s great for me so far. The processor and memory increase makes this phone leagues better then the G1 that I previously owned. Android 2.1 makes the OS more appealing and easier to use.

You should root your HTC Magic with Eclair 2.1 so you can see for yourself how good it is. Otherwise just go to a Verizon store and try out the Motorola Droid. It’s similar to the Nexus One with the exception of the hardware design, processor, and firmware.

You can wait a couple months to see what else will be dropping though. Apple should be releasing something new along with the new Sony Ericsson x10. Motorola has a few goodies in store too along wtih the Motorola “MOTOROI”.

Yeah and the Nexus is rocking more ram as well. Ive been looking at rooting but doesnt it crash sometimes? I’ve heard its not always stable but it could just be the version.

I saw this vid but thats for the G1, and wow its so fast.

I wonder does rooting make the phone use more power in thus using more battery?

Not necessarily. Rooting your phone will give you internal access to the phones programing to work it to your liking; such as removing stock apps the phone comes with, tether other devices for internet access and install custom ROMs. The benefit of installing a custom ROM is the ability to improve the phones performance and increasing the speed by removing useless apps and settings that the phone comes with. You can also customize the phones appearance with “themes” other people develop for the phone.

Be sure to study up on the rooting process for a specific phone before attempting to do it. Also, once you root you may not have the ability to go back, unless a stock ROM is available and can be flashed back onto the phone.

Edit
The G1 video you posted is a rooted G1 with a custom ROM installed.

Oh wow. That actually made me save some more battery. Thanks man. I never would have known. haha

Yeah, my friend got the Blackberry Bold. Shit is nice. I like that phone. It’s slick.

Yeah, mine lasted about 7. I only used SOME internet, not a lot. If I were to use the internet a lot, maybe a good 4 or 5 hours. It hurts. haha

for those sticking with winmo id advice waiting til like september next year supposedly when winmo 7 is released its suppose to be rebuilt from scratch and non of the apps on current winmo devices will work on winmo 7.

I got my touch pro 2 around september 09 so i figure ill wait til this september when phones with a larger processor and ram comes out that will be capable of winmo 7. The tp2 is still a great phone and probably the best winmo phone to come out

and for all u people waiting on the HD2 and have tmobile…

heres some good news

T-Mobile HD2

Behold, the HD2 that we’ll see on T-Mobile. HTC’s product page for the device is now live, and we learn that it’s getting a memory boost over its European brother. ROM capacity will be 1GB (up from 512MB); and RAM is up from 448MB to 576MB.

An easy answer for the change could be that’s what T-Mobile ordered. But that’s no fun, is it? A better guess is that in testing Windows Mobile 7 on it – remember that we’re all assuming it’s getting WM7 – a need for more memory was discovered. Either way, it’s not a huge bump up, but we’re not the types to turn down free RAM.

anyone excited about the MOTOROI?

this thing can film 720p videos and has hdmi slot, comes out in February in Korea but expected to hit the US in March

Has there been any word on AT&T getting android phones?

I have yet to ever upgrade my current blackjack 1 phone.

Yes, they are getting at least 5 models around March.
Dell mini=Shit
HTC
Motorola

I just read an FCC filing on engadget, and they had an AT&T 3G banded Nexus One that has been approved.

Look at this shit.

I’m getting the HTC HD2 this week, but they haven’t got the dual booting with android on it yet. If they get that going, I will be very happy.:lovin:

OK SRK, I’m upgrading my phone this week. I’m on Sprint and want to try out an android phone. I think the moment and hero are the only choices. Any reason to get one over the other? Hero is cheaper.

What else can I exactly DO with the G1 if I root it?

What’s a phone with a good camera? My contract expires in April, so I’m gonna need to resign and get a new phone. I’ve been using an LG Chocolate spin for the last 2 years.

Anyone hear of the Inbrics M1?

Looks sick. Anyone hear anymore info about this phone?

Oh, and is there a Anrdroid thread? I couldn’t find one in the search. If there is one, why the hell is there a Iphone thread but no Android thread? What nonsense is this?!

Since you have a Chocolate im going to assume you are on Verizon. If so the Omnia II, HTC Imagio, and Droid Eris are good choices. However if your willing to switch to AT&T, you can buy an unlocked Nokia N86 8MP, which IMO has the best camera of any phone avaliable in America.

Here’s my review of the G1:

It kicks ass.

Just buy a bigger battery. There are batteries that have twice the capacity as the standard one at a low price, but not only that, they are twice as thick too.

Now hear me out on this. Extra thickness is good, especially on the G1 while you use the hardware keyboard. Double life + more phone to hold = good deal.

49.99 new droid with 2 year plan VERIZON!

Keep in mind that you can overclock the phone to 1ghz and have it just as fast if not faster than the nexus 1.

Go Droid. My Imagio is pissing me off, and I’ll be upgrading again soon.

Go Droid. My Imagio is pissing me off, and I’ll be upgrading again soon.

Droid question: does it charge through regular USB, like Imagio does?

Once you go black…berry you never go back.
