Cell phone thread. (Questions, reviews, issues with carriers, etc)

I know that you can use downloaded songs that you didn’t get from the iTunes store as ringtones extremely easily.

So I’m pretty sure you’d be able to do that, though I’m not sure if iTunes puts a lock on editing the file. How did you plan to edit the song if iTunes is blocked?

Appreciate the response.

You have the Sprint Version?

I’ve read that it’s really easy to slow the phone down by having 6 or 7 apps running simultaneously. Supposedly there’s an app that helps close these. Is it hard to close apps otherwise? I don’t have Twitter, I’ll most likely only use FB if anything. I’m just wondering.

hey sep if u still are using palringo they fixed the facebook issues so u can now log into facebook an chat with the palringo app

im looking for a smart phone that good with music and do you think get a plan when trying to buy a house is good with the credit score.

Oh, sweet. Thanks.

Yeah, I’m using Palringo. I had one major issue, where it crashed, and I had to hard reboot the phone to close it. I ended up turning off auto-start at boot, since I think that’s what caused it.

If you any of you were using the Opera Mini 5 beta they just release a new one called “Opera Mini 5 Beta 2.” How original…

So far for me it has been a lot faster, and took out some of the stupid bugs. However for whatever reason when I scroll to the top of the SRK page it goes all white. Good thing is that it only happens at the very top of the page. So you should still be able to access your control panel.

Anyone picked up the Droid Eris? If so how do you like the virtual keyboard on that thing?

I’m thinking of going that route (signing up with Verizon and getting the Eris) or go back to Symbian and pick up a Nokia E71-2 or E72-2.

I don’t have the Droid Eris, but I do have an HTC phone with a very similar form factor. The software keyboard is good. Plus, if you have trouble, you can always use the included stylus with it. I like it more than most tiny flip-out keyboards.

A friend of mine is about to launch an AO app store for Android. The Dev site is up now, don’t think any apps are up yet, though.

Havn’t been on the forums much lately and just saw your post. Ditto what RockBogart said. The SMS problem was fixed with the OTA update last month along with some other issues, such as memory leak when using bluetooth.

There is an app called Task Killer. There’s mixed reviews on the app with regards to it’s effectiveness. I don’t use it as I don’t have problems with the phone and have no need to keep an extensive number of apps running in the background for information. I primarily use Facebook and Twitter so I keep those running. Everything else I open and refresh to get updated information. The facebook app is ok, not much to say about it other than it gets the job done. If you decide to do Twitter, Twitdroid is a good app to use. You probably want to get also get a file manager to better access your files. I use Astro, pretty straight foward.

The phone is identical to the Sprint Hero. I don’t have problems with teh keyboard personally. I’d suggest stopping by your local Verizon store and messing with it as much as possible before purchasing.

HTC has said that the Hero will get a 2.0 (or 2.1) software update. All signs point to an early 2010 release. The Hero also has a few little tricks/shortcuts that are useful. Holding down the home key will bring up the 6 most recent apps, turning the phone upside down (on the screen) when you receive a call will silence it, you can unlock the phone by pressing the menu button twice (instead of power then sliding the screen to unlock).

There may be more but I don’t quite remember.

Had a chance to play with the Droid today. Albeit it was for about five minutes or so and in a Verizon store, I was quite impressed with it’s snappiness.

The Hero has been good to me, no problems whatsoever. My only gripe about the phone is the lack of available cases/holsters to choose from. Sprint doesn’t have many options other than the silicone case and universal holsters.

I’m still not convinced that the Droid hardware will be reliable after a while, given that, at the end of the day, it’s still a Motorola.

Have you guys seen the stuff Sony Ericsson and HTC have planned for next year using the Snapdragon? That shit looks INSANE!

Fuck a Hero, Droid, or any other phone out there.

Nexus One ftw.

That will be my next phone.

Yep im waiting for the X10 to come out. The custom interface looks slick although im not too fond of being stuck at android 1.6. Hopefully SE doesnt fuck up and have software issues like the Satio and not bring it to the US, like the Satio.

whos gettin down wit dat metro pcs?

I find this is true of all Apple products in general, though.

Hmm… might become one of those people…

Buying the Iphone 3GS 16 GB or Metro PCS Finesse tommorow…

Going to do my last amount of research and thinking tonight.

Basically it comes down to me saving about 600 a year if I go with Metro…

Currently with ATT and pay about 80$ a month so since its spaced out 95$ wouldnt be so bad with company discount from my job… (ahhh its like 6-7 dollars less a month… w/e helps)

Hmm…

the auto start shouldnt be the issue i run it all the time on my touch pro 2 and on my first touch pro when i had it with no issues

I dumped my Samsung Memoir for a Samsung Highlight. Much better phone.
