Yeah My friend looks like a green axemen whenever I play with him, this clears up confusion because he keeps asking me wtf I mean when i describe him.
Miser Rings now drop in Chapters 6 and 7. For every million you have in gold you get +1 ATK, up to 10 (10 million = +10 ATK). So if you’re loaded, they completely destroy Megingiords.
Assorted HoD ramblings from a day spent playing the game to avoid drunken family drama:
-
Despite what some have been reporting, the Nebula does NOT deal holy damage. I learned this the hard way when Ashtarte forced me to creatively use the only thing I had that jived with her weakness: slide- and dive-kicked Yorick skulls.
-
Yoko’s Holy Flames and Holy Lightning, however, DO now have a secondary holy type.
-
Everyone’s baseline run speed should be made the same as Winged Boots run speed. Except possibly Soma: he should be ever so slightly slower.
-
Spiked Boots + Richter’s Spin Kick = nice.
-
Daybreak is a lot of fun. My new favorite Alucard weapon.
-
Berserker Mail needs either a heavy reworking or total removal from the game.
-
Grinding whip-user sub-weapons sucks ass.
-
Yoko should be able to equip the various maces/rods.
-
Maria’s “hello” emote is the most gut-bustingly funny thing in this game.
Dr. B’s Monacle is Berserker Mail without the drawbacks melded with Winged Boots and some sort of Valmanpenis.
Spent the entirety of Christmas day up until just a few hours ago trying to get Decollete Robes for Maria. My friend and I can kill the ch. 7 boss in under 3 minutes 30 seconds most times but still haven’t seen it drop.
My friend ends up fucking around with maria under leveled and gets it the first time he picks her.
Gonna probably grind some more tonight but damn, not sure how much more I can take. Starting to get the all dracula/boring syndrome. The replaceable music sound track has realy prolonged this game for me I have to say…
Information on Chapters 8 and 9, which seam to be going for 320 each and set for a January release.
Question: what’s “survival grinding?”
I know what Dr. B grinding is and just came to the thought.
In a nutshell, you and another person go to Hard Survival mode and just beat the hell out of the boss using a subweapon you wish to level while wearing an Astral Ring, and then die when you run out of health. You respawn with full health (which is MP since you’re wearing an Astral Ring) and then continue going to town on him. Using a level 1 subweapon, you can get it to level 6-7 in two or three minutes doing this if wearing that ring that increases mastery. 7+ takes longer, but it’s still faster than anything else.
It was explained before, but something to add about Survival grinding:
Do one weapon at a time, on all four slots. Why? Because some subweapons are multihit (Cross, Axe, etc.) and hits from multiples WILL NOT REGISTER if using the BDC (backdash cancel) until the first one runs through, meaning you’re getting less hits per thrown subweapon. Doing the attack with each of the four directions however, negates this completely and you’ll level up faster.
This doesn’t affect multihit weapons that land simultaneously like Shuriken, Knife and Kunai though. You can just BDC those.
Also, if your Jonathan is a lowbie, you can level up Wrecking Ball from 1 to 7-8 easily by going to Stage 1 Hard, using Wrecking Ball right at the edge of where the zombies go into the ground and taping the button down. The hits won’t kill the Zombie at level 1, and they’ll still count as leveling up while not actually leveling (aka doing level 1 damage) until he stops doing it. Tape down the button, go watch TV for 30 minutes, come back and bam, level 7-8 (Alpha’s ended halfway to 8 when I showed him this).
EDIT: Oh, and Alucard’s buffs are awesome. Dual Heaven’s Swords own hard, as do Alucard Sword or Daybreak (if you can BDC or short hop anyway).
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
SOTN Levels, that’s fucking awesome!
Here’s some tasty sauce in English for those who want it: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night stages coming to Harmony of Despair | Joystiq
I’m personally getting tired of buying new levels for $4 apiece. Something tells me I’ll pussy out though and buy them anyway.
Fuck yes Legion.
Many thanks for the info on survival grinding y’all!
Dr. B can level Grenade from 1-9 in 30 minutes.
Yeah you are. All you cats who keep buying levels are just saying to Konami that you don’t mind the price. I’ll wait for a sale.
Chapter 9 image up: ??? Harmony of Despair
My current Alucard build is using Muramasa, Alucard Shield, and Berserker Mail. I tried Berserker before but didn’t trust myself not to get hit: I like to be able to take hits and not die, but I figure the Alucard Shield will offset Berserker Mail somewhat. We’ll see. Using a Miser Ring and a Megingiord (still waiting on the second Miser).
Got a Robe Decollete and 2 Chaos Rings, and combined they lead to some CRAZY fast mana regen.
Survival grinding sucks but it’s better than the alternatives. God why do I like this shitty game?
Dr. B’s Muramasa attack power can only be expressed in powers of 10.
Chapter 8 and 9 seems like people are getting more attacks. Jon gets a javelin, Shanoa gets 2 new glyphs, Yoko gets a heal. Legion and Beezulbub.
I don’t know anyone for survival, so I just have to throw stuff at Dullahan’s body, and let my mana recharge. I could use astral ring and buy Super Potions, but that sounds like alot of work.
Chapter 8 out now.
Also, 8-bit stages/characters (including stuff from some old Japanese-only Samurai game called Genya something-or-other) on the way: ??? Harmony of Despair
EDIT - GameFAQs member AuTpBoRomulus provided a list of known new items from this new chapter: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/997663-castlevania-harmony-of-despair/57783934
EDIT 2 - The second 8-bit stage/character are from a game called Getsufu Maden. It was like Samurai Castlevania or something.
8-bit Dr. B is still 16-bit goodness.
Woot, just downloaded the chapter this area is possibly my favorite area of SOTN I can’t wait to play it!
EDIT Holy shit! They completely revamped the online! Thank you!
You can now create rooms with the specific chapter and difficulty so no more “I don’t have it” can’t play it crap, if you don’t have it you don’t join.
Hell yeah.
New stage is fun.
Also, 8-bit stages and characters? Oh that’s awesome…
Wow man, 8 bit Simon Belmont and 8 bit Draculas castle? Jesus christ, this game is starting to become lovely.
Well shit. I downloaded chapter 8 just for shanoa’s new glyph and stuff but it didn’t appear on the chapter select, even after exiting. So i bit the bullet and got chapter 7 and restarted then I see both chapters. Konami played their trap card and got my money.
Well anyway I got globus, it’s pretty fun to use since it’s basically like ricochet rock. Legion is rather easy once you get him down. He’s weak to blunt weapons but I decided to use pneuma + berzerker to farm since it just seems safer that way. I’ll probably switch it to lapiste once I become a little more efficient. It’s a long stage so it takes like 6-8 min with all the back tracking to do.
Soma can take Legion apart with Valmanways (like everything else that isn’t Astarte), float in front of him with Medusa Head and slash away. Once his shield is gone you can float right next to the core and gank him without any fear of getting hit, as his tentacles have no hitbox and when you’re that close you’re also out of the way of his fire/laser hitbox.
Bible/Ricochet Rock/Globus rip him to shreds as well.
