Castlevania HD for XBLA is out now. Its a 6-player co-op online game, and Im having a hell of a time finding people to play with. Anyone here playing?
I thought about getting it but not to big on having a time limit.
Someone else asked this question in another thread and Im not sure if it got answered so im gonna ask it here. When playing co-op can you play with random people or are you only allowed to play with people on your friends list?
You can do both.
Time limit sounds dumb(unless there is a 72 hour time limit)… and seems like they just rehashed everything from past Castlevania games and tossed it in there…
<- Playing Aria of Sorrow ATM, fuck this game for the time being
The time limit is because the map is a puzzle. It isn’t stressed for making it through the dungeon, like a survival mode, but for going the wrong/right way.
As a big castlevania fan, the game is neat, but I dunno if the cost is justified. Only five maps, two difficulty levels (I think), but all the characters are different. Only played solo so far (it wouln’t connect when I bought the game at like 8am), but that seems where the fun would be.
This sounds really fun. Not too keen on the time limit, though. Gonna dl tonight.
I read a review that painted it as having all the fun parts sucked out of it, leaving nothing but a tedious grind for loot with familiar sprites. I likes me some metroid-style exploration, and from what I read this game totally did away with that part of the series soo… if it ever comes out on PSN, and is made cheaper I might give it a go… but i don’t expect to.
If it was on PSN I would…
Yea I;m loving this game. I’m #3 on chapter 6 normal with shanoa on single player but that won’t stay there for long. I cheesed the last form and got charmed twice but still avoided the megiddo :nunchuck:. The two guys above me beat me by a good 10000-20000. They probably got the no damage bonus.
Backstep cancel is beast. Ignis BC makes dracula’s 2nd form go down real fast.
Well anyways, I didn’t try multiplayer yet so hit me up if you wanna play.
I read a review of this game and it wasnt such a great review. Made the game sound like it would get boring really fast and that its not worth the cost of admision.
Perhaps the same could be said of all XBLA games
Honestly it’s all about if you’re into this type of games. I bought the game and beat normal mode (going to go through hard later tonight or tomorrow and gotta go through co-op with my cousin who’s getting this after work) solo and I decided to read reviews after. They made it sound like it was impossible to solo and that it was a multiplayer only affair.
It’s not impossible to beat by yourself at all. Just look at the leaderboards and you see a ton of people already have. I assume these guys who beat it are probably like me, the type that got all the medals in Order of Ecclesia for not getting hit at bosses and do the hard mode runs. I can see it frustrate more casual people because going through a whole dungeon all the hits add up, so you have to stay on point if you feel like you wanna do good.
Also you get more better abilities later on and sort of level up by upgrading your skills. When you upgrade your skills your attack goes up (at least so far with shanoa and jonathan are like that since they can’t buy weapons). But I think for a xbox live arcade game its best this way so people have to rely more on platforming skills than grinding it out.
…
Anyway this game could have been something special. I’m not surprised it turned out so bad though. It looks like it was made within a year from concept to completion. I mean how could Konami even throw this shit up there? This is there with Judgement. Now I’m not saying the concept is bad but it feels like the game is a combination of all the selectable characters’ games and thrown in a blender with moldy meat for good measure. Moldy meat! They could have at least made each map follow some sort of theme. They could have thrown together some time-bending story to make sense of it all. They could have made the game a 3-player Dracula X style game with branching paths and tons of secrets and secret areas. I would have much rather played an action intensive Castlevania than this crud. And to think this is the same company responsible for green lighting Hard Corps Rising. Capcom, show these fools what’s up.
I don’t think I’ll ever buy this game.
SixMachine - Well, I didnt read anywhere that it was hard to solo. I read that it was a boring afair solo. That some characters can get buff weapons but only use them at certain parts of a level. When you (everyone) dies you start back at the menu screen or something. The review just made it sound like it was tossed together in a hurry without much thought.
Sleazoid - Hardly
your words are as empty as your ms points account!
**Phenomenal game, love it.
Definitely not for the Casual Player.
I’m at the point of fighting Dracula atm. **
Only been able to connect with one game so far.
I played a few online games but my teammates were mostly stupid. Send me a message on XBLA if you want to play with me sometime, i guess.
Sadly this game is like a 15 dollar rental. Let’s face it, almost all games on XBLA die after a few months unless they are extremely popular. A year down the road (probably much less) and I guarantee there won’t be a single game to join. Now I only played the demo and I’m sure it’s fun in multiplayer and all but it’s only gonna last so long and they dont even have an offline coop mode BTW what a horrible demo, they obviously don’t want the game to sell… you can only play 1 character and don’t even have access to the shop! Hydro Thunder’s demo was everything a demo should be and what nearly every other demo on XBLA has failed to do. Sad to see the next game down the pipe goes back to sheer stupidity. The single player consists of trying to find the one path that is accessible on your own (not so obvious from the map even) and then getting raped by the boss because you didn’t find any good equipment whatsoever. I don’t understand the point of starting with a weapon that does 4 damage and then every weapon I find is either just as weak or slightly stronger but slow as hell. So in a few months when no one is left playing this game at all there will be no enjoyment to be had from it unless you honestly enjoy this single player mode. BTW there is no difficulty scaling - the stage was pretty easy but you will be hacking away at the boss for a real long time, but having 6 people does not increase his HP at all.
