sometimes, tho usually task is the man to get shit done. I do really well offline with him, but online I can’t really find any good connections so I drop a lot of combos. Task anything to OTG arrows DHC Photon Array XFC st.:h: is death for anything and I really like doing that combo to people. Especially if I catch 2 people in the OTG arrow. I’m not really fond of Doom as an anchor though. I like to have a low hitting assist(wesker) or a good projectile (task/Sent) to help him get in on people because I’m not one to just turtle or play lame with him.
If anyone could critique my Doom in these vids it’d be much appreciated, he’s an anchor so he may not come out every game but I would sure like to know where I’m slacking. PS this team is new to me, I have barely touched mags and sentinel
Here is my Doom. I can’t get three loops of buktooth and I really am not good with him. Also, my scene isn’t the craziest… maybe u can help me improve a little or give me advice on changes i could make to my team.
I have some other videos of me playing doom there but these three were the ones where I had the most difficulty. Especially the grand finals one. my opponent was super random and I just dont understand what is/isn’t safe with viewtiful joe. and i dont know how to handle haggar. help. thanks
You definitely have the reactions to get the buktooth loop down. Your main issue is that you wait WAY too long to hit air M after the launch. It’s like you take your time and then hit M at some point when you’re in the air. The very first frame that you can get an air M out and hit the opponent is when you need to press M. That way they’ll be in hit stun early enough in the air where it’s easier to come down with the rest.
You had some interesting stuff with the corner launch off the forward air throw and used his dash movement a little bit. You need to use his dash movement a lot more when you wanna get in. Sometimes you just stiff up and just walk forward a bit and then just go for foot dive. Characters like Wesker especially aren’t going to be scared of that at all. Use the regular jump cancel to ADDF regularly to help you get in.
Also makes sure you’re always spamming something on the screen when you’re far away with Doom. Unless you’re fighting against a Taskmaster or Dorm stuffed with meter just get shit on the screen. Especially against a character that can’t really do a ton about it like Sentinel. Especially against Sentinel always just put a few hidden missles on the screen to keep him from flying and then blast him on the ground with plasma beam. If he’s trying to spit at you just take to the air and rain down plasma beams and photon shots. If he gets too close when you’re throwing ground plasma beams (especially if he’s flying) have sphere flame ready. Dont be afraid of his armor either. The only armor that might blow you up is the S armor but you can always bait that and force it to whiff and punish. His c.M armor you can just air dash over and hit with M to whiff punish.
Dont be afraid to burn your XF a bit early to kill off a character with a guard cancel c.L to death combo or guard cancel level 3 super that will lock people’s buttons in on anything that is even mildly unsafe. Unless they jump in on you super deep you can block an air normal and punish with guard XFC level 3. Which will kill anybody with 900k or less or any big health character that’s already taken some hits easily. When you’re in XF his heavy gun spam becomes a lot stronger since if it hits an airborne opponent and you’re close enough you can launch them into death combo. Ground photon shots become almost full screen blocks strings and plasma beams do crazy chip. Hidden missles act kinda funny with their tracking in XF but they’re still good for anti air. Just spam shit on the screen then move towards the person with your faster jump dash game while they’re blocking all ur spam.
work on your blocking (akuma overheads were rocking you), and switch doom to anchor since his full screen dhc’s don’t complement hulk (when you had two chars and didn’t kill assist bc dhc failed)
On doom, work on tri-jumping and learn the corner relaunch loops, instead of doing the buktooth in the corner
I played this guy a lot and everytime i blocked an overhead in casuals the next attempt he would go low. In our matches he ONLY used the overhead and even when I thought he was gonna overhead, i still pressed down back. Bad habit/reactions
I’m gonna try putting doom at anchor even though i feel much better with wesker at anchor.
@deviljin - thanks for the advice on xfactor cancel to lvl 3. I’m skeptical about burning meter but seems like often i find myself holding onto a bunch of it. I rarely use lvl 3 to punish moves (especially by using xfactor to get more frame advantage) but i’m gonna make a concerted effort at it now.
Also gonna take your advice andput more work into the buktooth loop. Typically i just end it after the second juggle with sphere flame or chair or i just opt to do the OTG combo in the corner (simply because I could never pinpoint what exactly i was doing wrong with the loop). but now that you point it out, i might as well just put time in the lab to get down the timing. thanks devil and honzo for the advice.
Uses both the “Buktooth” loop and the… knockdown-followup loop. (Not sure what to call it). Pretty easy to do, and above 800k damage.
P.s. first post, yay me.
Awesome DHC combo Alioune. I’ve been using Mag,Wesker,Doom. I’ve been getting sick of wesker but have been keeping him around just for the DHC glitch. Now I can comfortably drop him (even though he’s amazing).
Found these at Option Select. My god. This guy’s Doom is sick (though his Haggar is amazing). Those corner loops plus great use of XFC Guard Cancel -> Level 3.
Still have a lot to work on in my general game with Doom. Wasn’t really employing mix ups like I should have on people coming in from a KO. I would usually just try to air grab and forget that the opponent can’t be grabbed if they dont press anything (and then of course throw you instead). Should definitely try to mix it up with heavy gun and hidden missles to start further mix up. I still need to work on air M footsies and other general stuff and being able to recognize when people dont push block the anti advance guard tools to just go in and start landing mix ups into combos. When I was playing Rugal in casuals surprisingly he would rarely push block once I got in but I guess that’s because he was in the corner most of the time already where pushblocking doesn’t really work any way. Little things like that I’ll remember and put into plan for later.
I did a combo video for doom where it connects his level 1 hyper into his level 3 while opponent is still standing in corner. Short and sweet and here it is
mind you this is not the most useful combo but its available
