Needs polish, but other than that, looks like it could be fun.
The only “difference” there (if you can call it that) is that Resurrection was supposedly meant to be some thing that was showcased as a way to demonstrate the talents of the team behind the project, while utilizing SE’s properties to do so. To SE, it was a copy-right infringing tech demo first, and a fan-made/doujin project later. That’s the rather flimsy logic that SE used to slap them with a C&D order, and got it shut down. And that sucked. BADLY.
So, in essence, the CR guys got in trouble mainly because they wanted to use it as a means to sell themselves and their talents, kind of like how that one guy tried to use doctored pictures of a “Street Fighter 2 Kids” promo (any body remember that? this was WAAAAY before Puzzle Fighter and Gem Fighter came to be) to get Capcom’s attention. He did…but it certainly didn’t work out the way he wanted it to.
But in any case, I doubt that this particular Mugen project will get that sort of attention from companies. If such a case were otherwise, the likes of Capcom and SNK probably would have tried to make a vehement effort to stop Mugen, or at least their creations/creations’ likenesses being used for such a thing, a long time ago.

MUGEN work is like Doujin work. They get a free pass.
That’s different, in so many ways from this project. That was a remake, scene for scene of a game, while this is a doujin fighter. Big difference. This won’t hinder any future plans from the companies either, as a 3D Chrono Trigger remake would.
It’s nowhere near completed, and those BG’s are stand in’s (they are from like, KOF 2000). And the lifebars are default MUGEN bars. The only thing being showcased in that video, are the characters, so relax good sir.
how is using another company’s intellectual property without their permission legal
this does not fall under protection from parody law, considering it makes no comment on the intellectual property itself, instead it directly takes from it, with no changes at all, you can’t even possibly argue this hinders future plans, because it DOES, it is in direct competition with the square fighting game, soul calibur 4 and smash bros, however this is highly irrelevant in the realm of parody (the only thing this can be protected under).
please learn some basic law before you spout nonsense again thanks.
HOWEVER, since it seems this project is based in another country, it’s a lot more difficult to stop it with the threat of a lawsuit, which is relevant.
Somebody already mentioned the awesomeness of being able to play this on the DS or PSP, and I fully agree. If it makes it to completion and release, would it be possible to make take it portable with a modded PSP? I’m not really sure since it’s based off of the MUGEN engine, but its a nice thought.
You don’t seem to grasp this whatsoever. Take a step back, educate yourself in MUGEN, and it’s history, and Spriting, then get back to me.
First and foremost, besides using other companies characters, everything they are doing is all their work. Coding and programming, and the spritework. All theirs. Second, besides using the concept of “fighting” there’s no way in any sane world this game would directly compete with any of the games you ran off at the mouth with.
So shut the fuck up with that bullshit.
Oh, and MUGEN and it’s community has a very well documented history with various game companies, up to and including Capcom, Nintendo, and SNK. They have expressed many times that they see no threat in MUGEN, it’s related works, and it’s community, as they see it all as, and I quote, “Fan Art”.
hi my name is shade and i have no grasp of us copyright law
When all else fails; speak Retard.
Yea, That’ll get 'em!
That’s a pretty fucking crappy MUGEN game. It doesn’t even have 100 characters.
Looks fun.
I’d try it out atleast. Looks better than half that mugen shit out now.
I suppose that’s one advantage my theoretical doujin game has: it’s based on a long-dead property that no one’s likely to take any legal action over.
I hear that. Btw, more Gradius stages, plz.
FINALLY a mugen without shit like Omega Tom Hanks and Goku ssj108923748432046.
I watched the trailers a few days ago. Looks interesting.
Valaris, my good man. I don’t know how to say this, other than it’s not “MUGEN’s fault” you downloaded, and installed silly characters like “Omega Tom Hanks and Goku ssj108923748432046”. They don’t come with MUGEN, so how is it it’s fault?
MUGEN is a bare bones game engine. Now, what you do with it all falls on you.
Oh I’m completely aware of that. I was talking with regards to youtube vids. The only mugen I’ve downloaded was Marvel vs DC (or was it DC vs Marvel…?).
I understand it’s not Mugen’s fault. They came out with a good idea and people just raped it into the ground.
Thank god somebody else gets it. I am so sick of seeing people spout off about how bad Mugen is cause some retarded creator decided to make a dumb uber character. Mugen is just an engine it is not a fighting game. Thats like saying Microsoft word is gay because someone wrote a shitty report with it.
Oh, ok. I understand now. I didn’t initially catch that from your previous post, that you were referring to YouTube vids. And yes, everyone with MUGEN uploads SLASHIN HYPER EVIL CHOCOLATE SKINNED AKUMA vids, instead of actual interesting material. So I agree there.
I didn’t express myself clearly in my first post.
What I should’ve said is something along the lines of “It’s refreshing to see coming up with such an original idea using the mugen engine”
…or something.
