Capcom Vs. SNK thoughts

Card Fighter’s Clash >>>> Every Capcom produced fighting game of the past 10 years except CvS2 and HD Remix.

I never liked how in CvS 1 and 2 how the story line… what story? It wasn’t very in depth. I mean its a tourney, and it non-canon, but was interesting to see what they could have come up with. I guess its kinda like the MvC series. If they worked on a more intricate story, it would have been more amazing.

Capcom isn’t known for great stories in any genre of games they produce. Unless you thought Devil May Cry and Megaman had stellar stories. Capcom is an action game company strictly. They don’t give a shit about storyline

Well Capcom made SF4 in the last 10 years, and you hate on it so much, but can’t really point out why it’s bad. BTW saying “because I’m a rabid SNK fanboy, and no one care about games I play” is not a good answer"

Oh and as far as Steven H and Justin Wong is concerned, those are like the two biggest turtles in the USA. If you had an infinite timer, their matches would probably be 10 minutes long.

I guess I’m missing out on a lot then. I definitely noticed the pixelated 3d mess with CvS pro that bothers me more than anything else (bad sound effects, missing cool effects like the shadows from the spotlight in that one stage, etc.)

Well, at least I get Dan and Joe *rimshot

That’s what bothers me the most

they made a handful of new sprites like Akuma, Ryu, Ken, Dan, Bison and reused a lot of them.

So I would rather them reuse every sprite from alpha or make every sprite new. Mixing them up with new and old sprites messes up the scheme of things… for me anyway.

They made new SNK sprites for everyone - so what’s up with that, did they go over the budget and say ‘we spent all our time and money creating these new SNK sprites, owell we’ll have to reuse these dozen capcom character sprites, sorry capcom fans.’

yeah I also own SvC chaos, that game is totally broken, I only whip it out for a good laugh. Nice graphics but garbage gameplay. I think I originally got it thinking it WAS CvS.

You are not, I prefer CvS1 over CvS2 myself. I did get into CvS2 but i wish CvS1 had some type of a scene. If GGPO or 2Df can get these games on their service Ill be all over CvS1.

Casiotech, why the hell are you playing CvS1 on PSX? If you really want to play the game properly you get the Dreamcast version. Using the PSX version to say it doesnt play right or the frames are off is making your statement hold less credibility.

Gah, if I would’ve kept my Dreamcast…

You’re not. I prefer the first one too. I think I brought this up in the Lounge thread a while ago. But I think I like it more based off of cosmetics. The presentation was better, I like the music a lot better, and I like all the stages much better (alley with the brick wall shadow baby).

CvS for the DC and CvS2 for the PS2 are on my to do list

why does CvS2 for the GC suck exactly? I recall something about the c-stick allowing players to pull off specials effortlessly…

Dude get CvS1 and CvS2 on Dreamcast. The PS2 version has horrible graphics, the light sourcing on special moves are a pixelated mess.

CvS2 EO, Easy Operation. It was made for players like you.:razzy:

yeah I just mentioned the alley way level with the dynamic wall shadows, it’s really awesome art direction to come up with stages like that.

I prefer MvC and CvS 2d stages more than the 3d sequels and love 2d stages in general. They’re always awesome and add a lot of personality to the game. I try to get all the iterations of a game, just so I can see all the different backgrounds in the various games (think KOF 94-2002, SF3:NG, 2I, 3S. Alpha 1-3, et al)

That is not to say I don’t love the CvS2 3d stages because they are great too - the windmill stage is genuinely beautiful.

I am assuming you mean the c-stick? how accurate is the game otherwise.

Yeah, I guess all those Breath of Fire RPGs they made over the years were just a figment of my imagination.

Jesus christ, you get dumber with every single post.

So not liking SF4 makes me a Capcom hater?

I guess my 95% complete collection of Megaman, Breath of Fire, and Capcom fighting games means I hate Capcom so fucking much, right?
Not to mention the fact that I think Super Turbo is the best fighting game ever.

The fact is, if Capcom makes mediocre games, I call it as it is. Enjoying some of their games doesn’t mean I have to be like you, an ignorant fanboy mindless scarfing whatever half-assed garbage the company squeezes out of its anus.

agreed

I don’t like SF4 either - and a lot of other games they make

Re4 is still my favorite non SF related Capcom game. Best graphics, gameplay, story.

Glad to see I’m not the only CvS1 fan left. :bgrin: I think the only hope we have left for a “scene” to come back is if the game comes up on GGPO - that, or it gets a 360/PSN port w/online play, and I honestly don’t see that happening.

CvS1 presentation was awesome. CvS2 yellow diamond scheme can suck my left nut. God that was horrible.

What a lot of people don’t realize about sprites is that you don’t just draw one and be done with it - you gotta draw the animations for EVERYTHING the character does. Normals, specials, supers, taunts, throws, poses, everything. That’s really nothing to sniff at. At this time the fighting game scene was in the midst of its downward spiral, and it didn’t make sense for Capcom to try and put the time + money into redrawing everything.

Who knows why the SNK characters all got new sprites. Many of them came out looking quite nice though.

SNK characters got new sprites because Capcom does not own the rights to the sprites in other games. I’m sure if they reused old SNK sprites it would probably cost them another liscense, which I’m not sure would be more than redrawing. However, old SNK sprites would look pretty out of place along with old SFA sprites.

Im sure all games need some sort of story so that you know what is going on, but I think that having a story in fighting games other than tekken and soul calibur are pretty much useless. Its a cross over game, thats good enough with me. You’re supposed to be fighting, not reading stories.

they have to draw every frame, though since the sprites aren’t HD and they do recycle quite a bit, it’s really not that big of a deal for a team of professional illustrators.

I can’t wait to see all the new KOF XII HD sprites.

The mall over by where I live has a CVS1 scene where its like everyone who doesn’t speak english plays. The Tekken 5 machine is ignored and Wangan is always full. And somehow, they just got a broken MVC2 and SF anniversiry edition for free. They just got them from some random guy. I would play CVS1 more if the machine over here didn’t have messed up sticks.

The stages on CvS1 were by far cooler than CvS2’s, everything about them screamed Capcom vs SNK; you had a stage with a view of Suzaku castle, a typical train stage of Terry’s, Metro City, fought Geese at Geese Tower, even had a stage where you could walk into an arcade fgs.
CvS2 on the other hand went for random miscellaneous stages, much like what happened between MvC1 and MvC2.
