Quick tip from a avarage Guile player. Sagat is a very large character, hitbox wise. Use that to your benefit. if you do get a jum-in on him and your j.kh or mk land, try to follow up with a s.hp>sb. It pushes him back a bit, just enough for you to be safe on mash, and deals decent damage. I aslo saw you press buttons during his block-strings…against Sagat, that very bad as he does great damage off of hit confirms and can knock you down at will almost. Let him finish his blockstrings and watch for FADC grabs during them.
I did love how many times you grabbed him in the corner. I love that stuff. After the first 2, I thought “no way he’s gonna do it again” then 3rd throw! It’s risky as shit but fucks with the other player hard. First round of second game you were very good and composed. But it dripped off after that as you tied to move in every time you threw a SB.
He wasn’t a good Sagat, and you probably should jump less unless it’s a safe jump…but a shit Sagat is still Sagat. Bloody powerhouse.
Yeah in reference to the j. hk i usually follow it up just fine with the cr.mp xx fk but all day it wasn’t coming out for me, probably doing it too fast. Another thing I have to do when I have players in corners after I do a st. hp I should follow that with a boom as well. Lololol dude the 3 throws ruled, after the second i was like fuck it lets see what happens, hit em with the Chris Benoit Triple German Suplex hahaha! Also with the whole jumping thing he only started countering in the second set that’s why I was doing it so damn much in the beginning, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I’m really interested to see what is done with Guile in Super, if they can bump him up to somewhere in the middle a lot of us will be in really good shape, just gotta learn the new matchups. Thanks for the critique, have to practice up.
As if there is some kind of fear in Capcom’s eyes that someone might win a tournament beside their silly poster child, Ryu.
Ryu is currently very overpowered in the right hands. Amazing range, fast pokes, godly cr.mk that can combo into anything, great stemina…does he have any bad areas…am I being ignorant?
Every time I’ve seen a good Ryu lose, it was because of user error…not lack of tools. Just got outplayed. I can’t say the same thing about half of the middle to low tier cast.
Yea. Last year i used to think the idea of sagat being overpowered was a joke, beating him came naturally because i can remember what he used to be like in older games so well and learned the matchup quickly. I couldn’t see why Daigo would “limit” himself by maining ryu instead of sagat however
Then i actually learned that ryu has fewer weaknesses and can’t be put in a bad situation, and completely understood that for a player who can do anything, any other character would limit his success. It pisses me off to think that so many characters got nerfs they didn’t deserve and they’d leave ryu the same
Flagship character is fine to a certain extent. It’s ok if Ryu is the character whos tools include everything the engine has to offer. He should be able to footsie and combo and showcase what the devs had in mind with FADC, zoning, etc.
But to give him so much freedom while at the same time limiting so much of the cast that uses a different system of fighting (Charge characters, turtles, etc) is idiotic at best.
Give us all the same chance and we’ll figure out who suits our personal style. That’s what I would call a balanced game
Yea it’s like the want to nickle and dime every other character and then donate all of it to ryu. Like he’s great in this game, better than he should be imo, but at the same time why does someone like guile need almost everything that made him good in other games taken away?
Then, ontop of all of that, you take away one of the two things that was really good about guile in THIS game? Watch they nerfed lp booms recovery too.
Great post ExtraDas. I’ve felt this way for a while now. The FADC favors certain characters so much(like Ryu), and does almost nothing for Guile. Safe flashkick into no damage…yay!
Maybe slightly unrelated but I’ve recently lost a few matches against Ryu and Ken due to: blocked shoryuken -> FADC -> blocked shoryuken -> FADC -> shoryuken / grab. That stuff is mind boggling if you’re not expecting it… FADC opens alot of oppurtunities for damage and mind games while we Guile’s (and every other non-shoto) are stuck with at best squeezing out a single grab.
I always play Guile 95% of the time, but last night I played some random vs random matches and got Ryu. I barely have any experience using Ryu compared to my Guile usage and in theory I should probably have just gotten owned. But even with my inexperience, I was able to land his ultra from an anti-air LP shoryuken and from a shoryuken -> FADC like it was nothing. I haven’t landed Guile’s ultra in the past 30 matches and suddenly with Ryu it’s like hey here’s free ultra damage for you! Ryu is teh pwns.
It’s like FADC is a huge benefit to Shotos and of barely any use to Charge characters, so in that case shouldn’t Charge characters have some kind of system perks that benefit them instead either through FADC or something completely different?
Yeah, the power of tiers for the win, but the good thing is that Guile should definitely be much better with sonic hurricane and being able to combo into his ultra 1(I’m assuming from Ono’s comments). I believe the blueprint for making Guile a legit, consistent threat vs anyone is in place. With the big three being brought down to earth slightly and Guile gaining more priority on his attacks I believe he’s going to be real solid. Guile already was a lot better than people gave him credit for. He’s mad good for a low tier if that makes any sense.
I don’t think it’s possible to have all even matches. He’s not designed in such a way. Bad matchups are going to creep up here and there. I would just like fewer. What you guys are saying about Ryu is what I was complaining about the first week this game hit consoles. He’s not overpowered, but he is “complete”, where other characters are not. Overall, Ryu is my favorite matchup. It require a lot of patience, and mindgames from both sides. I’ve been playing against Ryu’s constnatly since the game came out. I love this matchup becsause it’s so big on spacing, which is probably where I’m the strongest. Though I suck at combos and mixups.
But if Guile does still have matchups (and I’m sure he will) it doesn’t mean he wasn’t buffed. It’s just Guile being Guile, and there were inevitably be some characters who can shut him down easier than others. Even in CE, he had bad matchups, Vega and Sagat could destroy Guile. Hell even in WW, Dhalsim was an ideal counterpick for him. So just because Guile has bad matchups, this doesn’t mean he’s not good or decent.
Lolol look at his garbage profile. He’s an O Tenner who finds it hard to deal with the Sagat matchup. Lmao, what else is new? It’s almost his one month anniversary OMG we should get him a ban.
You know what would be awesome? If you learned to spell an easy word like “cool” considering SRK has built in spell check you ass.
