Capcom, The way to Strenghten Guile is

LOL Okay hold up.

You as well. Hold on. lol.

Did any of you attend the capcom fight club?
Good Game.

c.MP to FK, FADC, air throw (backbreaker), juggle with OTG ultra.

Make it happen capcom.

you know, i was part of the “if they fuck guile, i’m going to switch to deejay” brigade. however, they’ve taken deejay’s ex dread kicks into ultra away because it was too good. attack wise, he will probably have a bit more damage than guile. in return, he will almost definitely have worse air attacks and overall defence. his combo/damage/combo into ultra potential are the only things that will make him better than guile. until both are played extensively, we won’t be able to tell who’s the better character.

if i do switch from guile (which is 50/50), this time i think i’m going to make sure it’s a switch to someone that fits my style, yet is high up the tier list that they don’t have a lot of bad matches. a damage/slight hp nerf is NOT going to nerf sagat. in fact, he might well be slightly better in ssf4.

Exactly. I want to know NOW if I’m keeping my main (Fuerte) or moving on to someone else.

il play with deejay and guile, at the same time!

if the sagat matchup still sucks balls il use deejay as a counter pick :smokin:

For some reason I have a gut feeling that they will fix Ultra 1 so it is more of a “locked in” damage/cinematic; but with the same animation obviously. For no particular reason I think it will do better damage and not be able to be combo’ed into. It is actually nice as a counter ultra, but that requires you to play someone who throws out “raw” ultras or unsafe moves. Not much in this world feels better than Ultra’ing in between the hits of another Guile’s blocked sweep

^but I don’t play ranked mode anymore. I want an actual ultra setup

Then keep your fingers crossed for Sonic Hurricane. If that shit combo’s then goodbye Ultra 1, but I think they will partially “fix” Ultra 1.

Guile doesn’t have a lot of bad mathups as it is. He has even ones that are annoying, but most are just painfully even. And to Wilkum, switching to Dee Jay to fighting Sagat is not a good idea. If it’s anything like ST, then Dee Jay lose for free almost. He doesn’t have any tools safe against Sagat’s zoning. you’re better off with Guile, since at least Guile can keep up with Sagat’s tiger shots.

Personally I can only think of a few set in stone horrible matchups for Guile. I belive Ryu CAN be, but he doesn’t shut down Guile like some people like to think. It’s really all about who has better spacing, and I always felt it was based more on the overall skils of each person using the character than the character itself. Akuma kind of shuts him down, but you have to play this matchup cautious and smart. Sagat definitely does. I believe C.Viper owns Guile, but I think I lack real knowledge of that matchup. The one C.Viper player in my area has said that he believes Guile has an advantage, but I take what he says with a grain of salt. I’m still trying to figure out how that matchup really works.

Outside of the people I listed, guile’s matchups are even for the most part. A lot of them could be in his advantage if he had more damage. I believe Guile would be 6-4 with Balrog if he did decent enough damage, and would shut down fuerte for the same reasons.

guile doesn’t need a whole lot to be competitive. He’s already heavily competitive as it is. I mean the fact that develeopers said he has better normals, unified recovery for sonic booms, and more overall damage tells me he has more than enough. What more could he possibly need? I mean it’s not like Guile really needed a complete makeover.

If Guile had Honda level damage on his normals and 60 damage on Sonic Boom he’d be great.

I don’t think Honda like damage is necessary. I mean like most of the cast outdamages Guile. There is a huge problem when Sakura and Cammy can generate more damage than Guile. He needs to at least be at Ryu’s level or Sagats level. I think Sagat level damage will make him good, but not too good. Guile is a great defensive and punishment character, so he needs slightly above average damage to really make his gameplan work.

On a side note. If Sonic hurricant is like it’s CVS2 incarnation, he doesn’t need to combo it. It’s better used for chip and frame traps. Sure you could combo it in CVS2, but that’s not what made it so good. What made it good was it’s vaccum effect, it’s instant startup, and it’s ability to punish people who liked to stick out a lot. If he isn’t able to combo sonic hurricane, it’s seriously no big deal. As long as it retains a lot of it’s original properties it should be fine.

As far as his flash ultra, I think it will serve as a good anti air ultra is certain matchups, especially against people who love to jump a lot. Mainly people like Rufus, C. Viper, and I can see it being effective against Ibuki as well. I’m not sure what it would take on the developement and animation end to fix the hitbox, but it should be a nice antiair ultra.

Guile rarely gets combos so I wouldn’t say Honda level damage would be unfair for him, even if it is ‘unnecessary’. The reason why he’s so bad in this game is because he doesn’t have anything that’s ‘unnecessary’ whereas the top tiers get bullshit they never deserved.

Seriously make it hurt to fight Guile. Why the hell not.

I know I’m probably getting greedy here but… I would love to have a back dash like Gen and Rose. That thing is so awesome. I use the back-dash a lot now so having one of that caliber would be great. Just a thought.

Right. Good thing capcom won’t change anything at all about deejay between then and now. And it’s especially good that you managed to unearth everything there is to possibly know about deejay during that fight club. /sarcasm end.

Capcom still has plenty of time to change whatever, not unlike the (terrible) decision to take away crumple on his EX sobat. It’s meaningless to compare characters in a game that isn’t even out yet.

It would be nice, but totally unnecessary. Guile already has more defensive options than most characters, so a backdash would just be overkill. I was thinking of CVS2 type hops for dashes for Guile, but I don’t think it will work well in this game. SF4 tends to have more realistic dashes and that’s good enough for me.

Not only that…in the grand scheme of things, guile’s backdash is already above average, as is his forward dash. Not many dashes in this game cover as much ground as Guile’s.

He has plenty of bad match-ups, and a few horrible ones depending on who you’re playing. One thing about him is that his bad or horrible match-ups are actually pretty manageable. You’ve got an interesting way of thinking really, i’ve seen you say a few things ould make guile too good, but sagat level damage wouldnt?

It may cover a lot of ground but I wouldn’t call it a FAST dash. Bison moves in the same way, yet this man is hopping on stones like he’s runs the MXC challenge in his sleep.

thank god, nobody asked pandaman64 to balance the game.

i still have hope that guile will end up more competitive in SSF4 than he was in SF4. Just pray that all the testers tell capcom that guile still sucks and needs some boosting before the game gets released.

also, am i the only person who thinks that there is no confirmed arcade edition because they want to release a balance patch after ~3 months and THEN release the arcade version?
