Capcom Says Japanese Game Companies Are 5 Years Behind

Stopped reading it the moment the article said it was Inafune.

That list of games that sold like last week doesn’t quantify any of your claims that

…Japan means shit because Japanese PSP owners only bought 2-3 games like Monster Hunter.

or

That’s why you have stupidly high hardware sales of portables and other systems that are on par or better than Western hardware sales but the software market in Japan has fucking CRASHED in the last 10 years.

Also there’s an error with in your reasoning. How can high hardware sales not contribute to good software sales?

You also misquoted me. Some one here in this very thread has said ā€œconsole > handheldā€ in reference to hardware sales. I only pointed out that such isn’t the case and that the install base for handhelds is quite healthy.

people are shitting on my beloved JRPG’s again… =/

you let me have my stale recycled garbage and i’ll let you have yours ok?

Hope you enjoy FF13/14 man!!! I’ll wait for DA2, D3, DS3, etc.

come on lets be reasonable here

I just can’t relate no more to the Jap shit. Maybe it was the poor graphics at time that allowed me to ignore the Japanese ā€œcharacterā€. Then came FFX-2…

If I knew that Japan was going to have me play a pedophile and a pervert I would have never gave FF7 the time of day. When I look at these games they DISGUSTS ME. They are FUCKING FOUL and DESPICABLE.

God bless Capcom and Hideo Kojima though. If it wasn’t for them I don’t if I even being playing games today. Even Nintendo still makes some great games and Kirby 3DS looks like winner. But Nintendo is pretty much a hardware company. You buy some block of plastic with a cd player and let it collect dust. Mario has always been great, but I’ve been playing this WOP for 20 years! Come on Japan…

Lastly we Americans should pat ourselves on the back. Finally this country has embraced gaming. We still have room for massive growth. Japan is depressed and insane. Sad thing is they don’t even know it.

lawl that sprite in insert jrpg here was used in insert jrpg from 10 years ago…goes back to playing ST

I wrote this big body of text about what japan can do to make more american money, but fuck it.

-Make bigger initiatives to hire more Americans/Canadians, simple enough.

RPGs as a whole are fucked. The problem with modern JRPGs are convoluted storys with shallow characters, and the problem with western RPGs are that they do poor jobs at properly rewarding players who put the time in.

Canadians? Pffft!

How about places outside of North America. Like Europe or Africa, what makes America the gold mine pal?

Your doctor b routine gets played out real fast. Thanks for writing a bunch of bullshit that was pointless .

Inafune’s a retard who’s running Capcom into the ground. Next?

Not only do I not agree with him but I just plain don’t get this guy. ā€œJapan is five years behind!ā€ turns around ā€œMega Man Universe - Based on Mega Man 2!ā€ lol

You lost me, I don’t know what you want me to say? If you read the article it was about how Japanese developers are losing sales worldwide to North American developers. So why would you not hire or collaborate with North American employees?

The western world (Americans in particular) are nostalgic by nature, we like retro stuff. So thats somewhat understanding the culture, whats really important is how its distributed. From what I understand it is going to be an XBLA PSN game, which makes perfect sense for a game like that.

I’m sorry to hear that my response upset you. I was trying to relay my gratitude at being corrected by a clearly superior male specimen, one who makes such valid points like ā€œa multitude of characters are identical to one another despite hard evidence to the contraryā€ and ā€œyou have to play a game to speak out against it, the same way you have to have actually visited Pluto before saying it shouldn’t be called a planet.ā€ I wouldn’t dream of upsetting a man who has the testicular fortitude to back up his arguments when challenged, as you clearly do every time you post.

I’m also sorry to hear you don’t appreciate my unrequited, partially homosexual man love for Dr. B. I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do about that as, according to B 69:69, ā€œhe shalt be blessed who gives himself to the B, in body and mind, in spirit and mind, in hamburger and mind, and he shalt be blessed who acknowledges the gifts of B every time he participates in forums of public opinion.ā€ I can’t choose between the B and you, good sir. Apologies, and if it’s any consolation, I’ll think of you the next time someone tells me I’m not allowed to call something a piece of shit without having played it.

What are you talking about? I was just making a troll comment about how most the people that participate in these type of discussions on the internet are self important morons making trite uninteresting arguments.

Japan’s major problem with development right now are poor design choices. Lost Planet 2 is a great example of this - not that the hero/storyline of LP1 were stellar, but at least it was something. LP2 came along and more or less didn’t care about the story/characters from the first, changed the setting, and then gave you a bunch of generic characters you didn’t have time to care about. It didn’t address any of the control issues from the first game, and its a 3rd person shooter without an autosave feature - seriously now? All things considered, I don’t think LP2 is a bad game, but its these poor choices that get in the way of the fun. Reviewers then give it a bad score, and people think ā€œI’m not going to waste my money on this crap.ā€

Looking at multi-million dollar blockbuster titles in the states - Halo, CoD:MW2, GTA or whatever, its not that these games are the pinnacle of the gaming experience, but they’re designed so that players can enjoy them. Good design choices cover up any lack of innovation/depth/other fallacies. A gamer can just sit down and have fun without thinking about how much he hates the controls or how if he dies or just turns the system off, he’s going to have to start over at the beginning.

Japan needs to worry less about ā€œwesternizingā€ games and just making better design choices.

Actually Azrael, I’ll disagree. It has little to do with the choices being made by the companies but most of the people in this thread have stopped liking games altogether. Halo Reach was very fun co-op. turns out so are the rest of the games (only have known halo strictly by its multiplayer facet). You guys need to take this less seriously and work harder on the suspension of disbelief, otherwise accept that gaming may not be the hobby for you anymore.

Well you assume that hiring American’s is going to help Japan sell games to Americans. From what I am seeing in the thread is that people are tired on both ends of the Pacific, so lets throw something else in the mix.

I get what you are saying, but my points were in response to the article. I was simply saying what Japan could do to improve western sales, not anything on what can improve the quality of Japanese games. The best games does not always equal the best sales.

Yeah Pherai’s right you guys stink!

But America makes shitty games too, we behind our own times.

Oh and,

Yes I believe they deserve to die and I hope they burn in hell.
