Capcom Fighting Jam impressions

Can someone give some more detail about Guile in this game? Is flash kick invincible? Hows sonic boom recovery, speed and startup time? How are his normal anti airs? How’s throw range? Can you play him sf2 style spamming sonic booms? Or is he more like cvs2 guile?

Gief + Hauzer = Love

Have you noticed that Parrying is way easier than CvS2. I played it yesterday and my friend who’s familiar with parrying alot easier in CvS2, parried alot in CFJ. He even parried a point blank fireball super in the air. Much easier than JD is what he said.

Been tinkering with Mukuro alot lately and I can see now how he can be listed in top tier. His teleports is damn good.

brian More like SF2 than his CvS2 incarnation. His Flash kick hits at the back of his head. You can spam sonic boom like in SF2… and His flashkick has high priority same in SF2.

So Alex, in spite of sounding greatly crappified, is still not at the bottom? What kinds of tricks does he have (other than parry) that help him overcome his speed problems?

I’ve read most of the thread, but I haven’t seen much about Guy (goddamn search won’t permit “Guy” b/c it’s too short/common…) except that he isn’t so common, and that people using him tend to eschew customs for supers… are his customs that crappy, or his supers that good that it warrants this?
And how is he in terms of playability? Easy to use like SFA1, hard to use like SFA2, or hard to use but monstrously deadly like SFA3?

His powerbomb is REALLY fast now. Still slower than SPD, but u can interrupt jabs with it(the Lp. version at least.Computer did this to me btw). His “new” jump is low and he lands pretty fast. His jump Hp is still really good against grounded opponents. U can press it at the apex of your jump and it will hit the taller characters like Urien etc. After that its a powerbomb//MkxxLp.Flashchop guessing game. His ex dp.knee seems to have invincibility frames now, a really good move.

So what’s the general consensus on the game right now? As in the whole game, not really graphics wise more like gameplay wise? Yay or Nay?

Still to early to tell for me. As Morpheus would say, “you have to see it for yourself”. in this case, it would be play. It depends on your tastes really. Me, I like it because it seems fairly balanced at the moment, and thats soo important.

ok
what is the command for stungun ??

:qcb::qcb:+P

Another thing not noted about Alex is that a lot of his normals don’t hit at the same time as they used to, usually earlier. Good examples are s.HK, his stomp. Flash Chop has a shitload of range, FP one can hit at about half screen… And Stun Gun XX Hyper Bomb still remains one of the best punishment moves next to Gief’s two guaranteed punishers(A. Russian Slam/ Headbutt XX SPD/FAB) and Ryu’s Shin Shoryuken(it hits almost as far out as his s.MP, and if you’re not blocking when super flash occurs, you’re assed out, I should know…).

As for Guy, I can’t say much except that he doesn’t get much play over here. I can tell that he’s harder to use than SFZ3, however. I’ll check the box next to “Hard to use like SFZ2”.

And it’s not that his supers are that good, it’s that, unlike CvS2, Customs aren’t as easy to get for free since the invul isn’t as noticable as before. I find myself only using customs with Karin to ensure that I get some good damage after a dizzy.

I guess I’ll need to check it out myself when I have the time, damn College is a bitch. :frowning:

Sigh

Hauzer, Hauzer…

Learn to UC correctly, that’s all I can say, and learn to use his Short Dashing attack as an escape from any attempts from trying to cross you up silly. Yagami pressured me bad so i had to learn fast or die (I died haha). Using Hauzer is tight. he isn’t Low Tier because he doesn’t have options. he’s low tier because his gameplay is too tight. If you play him well you can really keep away most characters with his jump then wait to attack options.

He’s also the only character who chips for the most at a long long distance.

AGH Gotta go…

Here are the results of the a-cho tourney (gotten from someone’s post, not the official site so it could be wrong):

Winner: Demitri/Guile
2nd: Jedah/Anakaris
3rd: Jedah/Demitri
4th: Jedah/Mukuro

The most popular characters were Ryu, Jedah, Bison, and Ingrid.

a-cho is scheduled to put up tourney vids on the 27th. Hopefully they’ll put up more than just the finals since it’s probably all Jedah vs Jedah.

pre-emptive dont flame me request/warning: I only read the first few pages of this thread, so if everything I post here has already been stated, sorry.

I played CFJ in the arcade over the weekend when I was in Sendai. I didnt play in a fighting game arcade, so the level of interest/competition wasnt very high.

Graphics.

yeah, the sprites seem ripped from various games, and therefore lack a uniform feel. Still, they didnt bother me too much. Some of the old sprites have been very slightly tweaked. For example, Giefs face has been redone, so his eyes look more crazy, and he has steam coming out of his nostrils all the time. Rose`s throw animation also has changed. 3s characters have also obviously been redrawn/changed, to suit the lower degree of animation. Darkstalkers looks the same as always, the SF characters largely seem to be ripped from their CvS2 sprites.

Backgrounds were pretty blah. They kinda reminded me a little of PuzzleFighter, in that Capcom was trying to draw every capcom character ever in the background to make cameos. I like the Dmitris castle background, which has a nice portrait of morrigan on the wall, and seems warper kinda like Disney`s haunted mansion. One background is of a city street, and honestly, SF2 had more parallax. Looked kinda lazy on the whole.

Game mechanics/layout.
You get to choose 2 characters. You can choose which character you want to use each round, by pressing either 2 kicks or 2 punches. So you could pick Guile and Felicia, and if you find that your Guile owns your opponent, you can stick to using Guile for all the rounds, and never use felicia. On the other hand, if you get owned with Guile, you can switch to Felicia for the remaining rounds. One interesting/important thing, is your meter carries over from character to character, even if your characters are different grooves (from different games). So you could conceivably build up a lot of meter with say, Ryu, then in the next round switch to a Zero(alpha) character like Rose or Sakura, and you would start off with a full V-meter.

Third strike characters can parry, and do EX moves and supers. Their super meter looks like it takes a bit of time to charge. Regular SF characters charge meter at a normal speed it seems, they have regular supers. Zero characters have custom combos, which seem to act like CvS2. If you get half a meter, you can do any of your supers. Standard CvS2 bunch of regular fierce attacks- specials-last second super seems the best use. Don`t understand warzard system. The Darkstalkers have pursuit attacks (OTG follow ups), and can EX moves.

The final boss of the game is Pyron. There may be secret bosses, but I saw Pyron the most.

I cant comment on gameplay yet, because the game is so new, Ive played it so little, and I havent had any really good competition. One interesting thing though, is that throwing is done by pressing short and jab at the same time. I didnt try kara-throwing, but it seems like it could be possible. Somebody should try it out. Here are some brief impressions of characters though.

Sakura
Low fierce is indeed excellent anti air. I also found you can whore her standing rh like in SFA3 to poke people effectively. Cross ups and low shorts are still good. Her kick super still must be blocked low. Custom is same as CvS2. Jumping Rh is nice for jumping over fireballs, or screwing up peoples timing with dragon punches.

Guile
Felt strong to me. His towards+ short/forward are good, and low forward is a good poke. Standard boom followed by towards+ forward, low forward, boom worked well when mixed with throws and backfists to hit jumpers. As stated before, his knee has improved range. Jumping jab stays out for a long time. his rushing super seemed slow, his somersault justice did nice damage, and I couldnt pull off sonic hurrican for some reason. Didnt really notice the charge time problems. One thing: you know how in CvS2 his flash kick hit people who were crossing him up? Like, even when they were way on the other side, theyd get hit? CFJ Guile doesnt seem to have the same hit box. But good priority in front and right above him. Oh yeah, and since throws are done with towards+short and jab, I couldnt do suplexes, just the one where he throws you far away.

Ryu.
Dragon punch looks good. decent pokes. his fireball seems harder to jump over than in past SFs. Like the hitbox is bigger?

M.Bison (Vega)
Standing forward has nice priority, scissor kick pressure is good.

Rose
The range on her slide (offensive crouch+ forward) is much improved, reminded me of Alpha1. Her crouching strong still has real nice priority, her crouching Rh still has great range. Her reflect charges good meter when whiffed. Crouching fierce is decent anti air. You can also cancel it into her drill. Her throw has new animation. I was mashing it consistently for 11 hits.

Gief
Super airthrow is really good. Standard ticks still work, like standing short to SPD, banishing flat to SPD. Crouching jabs still good, body splash priority still good.

Felicia.
Uh…her EX rolling attack is really fast and goes under fireballs.

Ingrid
She seemed really good. Her character design (gameplaywise) reminds me a bit of Athena. She has an upwards fireball (like when rose uses fierce to reflect a fireball), and most of her supers are slow moving super fireballs, kinda like Bisons in MvC2.

Jedah
Good keepaway.

Didn`t see any Guy/Urien/Alex/Chun/warzard characters played. Sorry for the lazy report, and if most of this was known already. Still thought Id share.

OH NOOOOO!!!Say it aint so!!arrrggggg…

I don’t think he has it in this game. I saw some Famitsu scans of the official movelists, somewhere…have to check to make sure.

of course it isnt in the game. This has been stated a few times already in this thread. :karate:

sigh

peace capcom

Wow… That’s uhmmm

Anyway, i feel SF3 characters are the latebloomers of the game. They’re kind of like K-groove in CvS2.

Is it too early to call it Capcom Jedah Jam?
