Capcom Fighting Evolution (Tiers, ect)

I know of all CFJ footage of combos and matches. As FSGamer said, it’s impressive but not practical to execute.

entertainment for me when i’m high:looney:

Karin is definately top tier… HK x n is just too good…

How does the combo system work in this game anyway? I remember Obot 64 posted some crap about jubbles or some shit… What’s the specifics?

Yes, Guile should be high-mid/mid tier. Like you said, cuz he’s SF2 he desn’t need meter to dole out massive damage. Also, he’s the best battery in the game, making your 2nd character able to abuse the meter Guile gained (Urien comes to mind too).

My team is Guile/Urien. But that’s just me.

Debatable tier 3/tier 4. In all technicality, she’s not really missing anything huge from her arsenal, but she has a lot of bad matchups, and they made her have the lowest life bar of all the tournament-legal characters in the game (she had average vitality in the Darkstalkers games).

Being the only decent Zangief player in CFE that I know of (definitely one of the only ones that thinks that Zangief isn’t low tier), I can tell you that Zangief is definitely not tier 2 material. Zangief might have great damage and greater SPD’s, and Reversals are much easier in this game than any other game I’ve ever played, which is what keeps him really good; however, Zangief relies a little too much on being technically proficient in Reversals. He’s incredibly slow, has a SHITTY jump, and is too fucking fat. So many characters can keep him out really easily, especially anyone with a fireball.

Yun is a god-awful one trick pony. He has 100% damage combos, sure! Alex has a 95-98% damage combo that is a million, trillion times easier and more practical than Yun, and he still sucks. Why?

  • It’s really impractical and requires full bar

  • It’s really the only thing that Yun has going for him. He has shitty ground normals (they’re based off of his CvS2 sprite, which has 2I normals - completely different crouching kicks), and since the blockstun and hitstun in CFE is really small, pretty much any air attack - divekicks included - that isn’t VERY deep will leave him wide open for a free throw. You can imagine how bad this is when pitted against someone like, say, Zangief or Alex…or pretty much anyone that can punish someone out of the air for big damage. Trying to approach someone on the ground with Yun is a fucking joke with his lame kicks and special moves that leave him at a severe disadvantage on block. Yun really doesn’t have much of anything going for him in this game.

Lastly, Sakura is absolutely, ABSOLUTELY the worst character in this game.

  • God-awful range on her normals, not to mention damage and priority.

  • She’s too slow and weak to mount a really good offensive, and she lacks the range and priority to keep people out…her best method is using her hadoukens, which is a really volatile strategy…

  • Some of her moves are really not safe on block at all (Shunpuu-Kyaku, Flower Kick)

  • Glitches that made her really fearsome in other games (Crouch Cancel combos in A3, Roll Cancelling in CvS2) are not available in this game. You could try and argue that these don’t matter, but when was the last time you saw someone rock an A-Ism Sakura in A3 or a C-Groove Sakura in CvS2?

  • Her CC’s are not nearly as threatening as they were in A3 or CvS2, especially with Sho-Sho being much harder to execute (Negative Edge does NOT work in Custom Combos in CFE), not to mention doing much less damage in this game. Since this is really the only saving grace that she has retained, this is really rough. It makes her meter dependant, and it’s not even very scary - it’s easy as hell to mess up AND it’s not even scary to get hit by it. Even if she built up her meter to 100% TWICE in a match and landed a full sho-sho on you TWICE, you would still be alive. Combine that with the fact that all her normals and specials are shitty, and that’s the skinny on why Sakura is the worst character in this game.

Seriously, battery characters is an awful idea. Being a battery character does not really affect tier status that much. This game is all about matchups - you want one character to do most of your fighting - a real solid character, and then your second character should be one that compensates for bad matchups. Guile is definitely more of a secondary character.

  • Slow as hell

  • Horrible vitality (seriously! He has one of the lowest max HPs in the game)

  • Shitty offensive game. Most people would disagree with this - I did when I started playing, too; but, this isn’t ST - a lot of characters have more than enough shit to deal with Guile’s offensive game, which really isn’t much-improved over his offensive game in ST, if at all. Sure, he still does well against SOME of the characters, but he’s pretty much forced to turtle in a lot of situations, and most rushdown characters beat the crap out of Guile (Jedah DEFINITELY rules on Guile - random flash kicks are not an issue for Jedah, because all he has to do is throw wheels outside of range and feint a dash-in attempt. One wrong guess for Guile and it’s over).

  • As Jeron Grayson put it, Guile has no comeback factor. When Guile gets the momentum in a match, there’s still not an awful lot he can do against most of the cast…so when the momentum gets turned on him, he really has it rough.

Hydron is okay…He shuts down the ST characters, but a LOT of the cast has good matches on ST characters (pretty much all Red Earth, DS, and SFA characters excluding Felicia and Sakura). Hydron is definitely not bad, but he’s nowhere NEAR the level of the other Red Earth characters, and solid Tier 2 characters like Guy and Demitri will eat him alive.

You’re absolutely right about Kenji though - he is like, the ultimate turtle of CFE. Definitely top 5 for sure.

Gief vs Kenji. what is that… 1/9?? How the FUCK do you get in on him??

My guide explains all including Pros and Cons for each character and Counter-Character Matchups.

Ah OK, but I’m a bit curious, but I might’ve missed reading it in the FAQ- How do u do Anakaris’ side switching thing?

Can anyone tell me how to do Anakaris’ super, Pharoah’s Judgment or whatever its called… not the wall one. I know the buttons… but I don’t know how to do it. o(>_<)o

Again on the combo system…

When you have your back to the corner, do a backdash.

Be specific, which character are you talking about?

Jubbles or some crap…

Do a backdash when your back is to the wall. I believe you can only do this when you have reached the end of the stage.

The command must be done quickly. :mk: :lp: :d: :lk: :mp: If another move comes out after the :mk: then you did it too slow.

You can also buffer the command after recovery of any move. I’m not sure if you can combo into it because the startup of the move is really slow.

I got it now… I figured out the problem… I was using HK and HP instead of MK and MP.

True. Drumming makes performing the move even easier.

On a side note, Anakaris’ super moves suck. One would be better off using meter on ES moves.

Thanks Psychochronic…you’re FAQ was quite informative. Between using Guy and Leo, I didn’t have many problems…and won the tourney.

If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer them.
Since you used Guy and Leo, did you have any problems in certain matches against various characters?

Okay, incase you don’t know what I’m talking about…

BTW Kyouji what about CFE is broken? I’ve alwayws considered the game balnced ever since I read Psychornic’s FAQ and learned that Jedah is beatable.

Also, I personally find Psychronic’s character ‘ranking’ in his FAQ as a good reference if anyone wants to know who is better than who.

I’m not sure how others feel, but I personally think that CFE is balanced, yet mediocre. This feeling of mediocrity seeps into every aspect of the game (artwork, backgrounds, menu select screen, character roster, sprites, background music, character select screen music, etc). The ONLY high point was each character’s ending (UDON artwork).

Basically, why play a game that’s been done better (looking directly at CvS2 as a superior choice)? Like, why would I play 2nd Impact if 3rd Strike is available? I wouldn’t. Why would I play CFE if CvS2 is available (yes, I understand that they are two “different” games, but if you really think about, they’re not)? I wouldn’t
