But it is true. Cap’s shield absorbs any energy projected at it. The only way it can be destroyed is by some omnipotent son of a bitch(IG Thanos, Serpent, pre retcon Molecule Man, etc). Cap’s shield is a literal plot shield. So awesome.
I mean I know about the absorbing. Like you said, the discuss shield can only be destroyed through godlike means. I’m talking about post #552 that said it could store and redirect kinetic force to hurt people above Cap’s pay grade.
Don’t get me wrong. I love me some Rogers (no homo), but I call plot armor as I see it.
That’s the just the nature of vibranium, and how energy works in general. The shield does the absorbing and storing, but when energy is stored, it doesn’t go away. That goes against the law of conservation of energy. That kinetic energy is stored and converted into potential energy in the shield until its released, and it’s released whenever Cap bounces it off a wall or hits someone over the head with it. If the energy isn’t released, then it would build up until the shield couldn’t hold it anymore and then shatter. I mean, if you wanna call that plot armor, then be my guest, but you’d then essentially be calling every fictional weapon in the Marvel universe plot armor, like Thor’s hammer, Wolverine’s claws, Iron Man’s armor, Black Panther’s suit, Spider-Man’s webbing, etc, etc. They’re just tools designed to serve a purpose for the characters that use them.
And just to make sure you know I’m not pullin’ this stuff outta thin air:
Not to actually give a physics lecture, but the shield is violating conservation of energy. Just not where you think.
Yeah, but outside of the rules laid out by the fictitious shield, the physics are meant to apply. That’s how you get the so called “pseudo-science” that comics are known for. Everything you know about science is true, except for the parts the writers tell you isn’t. Suspension of belief in a fictitious universe, yadda yadda, but I hear ya.
Next thing you know, you’ll be saying hammerspace isn’t possible.
Lucifer always sucks in comic books, that’s why they created characters like Thanos. Granted squirrel girl is where its at.
Somebody asked for a new tier list, so…
- Shuma-Gorath
- Dormammu
- Doctor Strange
- Phoenix
- Thor
- Hulk
- Dr. Doom
- Nova
- Ghost Rider
- Magneto
- Super Skrull
- Storm
- Iron Fist
- Iron Man
- Spider-Man
- She-Hulk
- Wolverine
- X-23
- Deadpool
- Taskmaster
- Captain America
- MODOK
- Hawkeye
- Rocket Racoon
- Sentinel
I hadn’t done one yet!
I know people are going to complain about certain entries so let me get on top of this.
Cap and Hawkeye are WEAK by these standards. Their stories are interesting/exciting because they beat people way stronger than them with wits and guts and luck.
Deadpool is unkillable, which gives him a slight up on Tasky.
All the people ranked above iron man could super-easily disable his armor one way or another, and without that he’s a smart guy with a heart problem.
Nova has potential to be higher than doom but his current power level isn’t quite there.
Hulk is indeed the strongest there is, but the people above him could generally totally negate him in interesting/funny ways. I almost put him above Thor actually, but range of powers counts for something.
The top 4 could if actually using all their powers beat all of the characters under their tier at once.
~~
Edit: Thanos will always be a Darkseid clone to me, even if he ended up way more interesting
(List updated slightly, shifted positions of Storm and Dormammu)
phoenix is secret top tier, like modok. that is all.
I like your list. Only like maybe two things at best that I have a slight disagreement with, but I agree with your reasoning for all of it.
Gimme your disagreements then, its most fun when we dispute!
You mean dead? lol j/k.
Dormammu and Storm are a little too low and Iron Fist is way too high.
Other couple small problems but it’s alright.
haha, I like ‘dormammu is a little too low’, meaning ‘1’ You’re right tho, I’m gonna edit strange down one, dorm up one. I took somebody elses list as a basis and then edited so I wouldn’t forget anybody, but a few errors slipped in.
Also, gonna switch Storm and She hulk, not sure how that happened
Iron fist I stand by, a combination of looking at his power grid ratings (which are useful for various things imo, like official strength levels and such), and the range of abilities he has. He’s kind of a Reverse Captain America, where he never actually fights up to his power level for some reason.
Wait, did nova die recently? When I was reading up he was still going fine ><
I just dont really see how he can beat the four below him.
Spider man and She-hulk would be pretty easy. The other 2 I think he’d beat pretty well, flight not being an issue. He essentially can’t be beaten in hand-to-hand combat by ANYBODY, and the Iron Fist (the actual ability) would certainly blast right through Iron Man’s armor (and chest, and out the back). In an open field, he could do absolutely nothing against storm though, I admit. He has some energy projection, but nothing of the sort that would make her evenblink.
Looking at the list I think I’m underranking storm in general still, should probably move her up to 12, and the other 2 down one.
"Updated list
Spoiler

- Dormammu
- Doctor Strange
- Phoenix
- Thor
- Hulk
- Dr. Doom
- Nova
- Ghost Rider
- Magneto
- Super Skrull
- Storm
- Iron Fist
- Iron Man
- Spider-Man
- She-Hulk
- Wolverine
- X-23
- Deadpool
- Taskmaster
- Captain America
- MODOK
- Hawkeye
- Rocket Racoon
- Sentinel
I’m also thinking She-hulk should actually be below Logan & copies, but she is awfully strong
Still don’t see how.
Let me go through the 4 then.
Storm I reranked above him, because you were right.
Spider man has Superhuman Strength and agility, but is essentially a hand-to-hand fighter. Between Chi body hardening and superior skills Danny could resist/avoid/endure his attacks, and one serious punch would put Spidey out, probably kill him. It’s entirely fighting on Iron Fist’s terms.
She-Hulk is stronger than Spiderman but doesn’t have any extra powers, and Chi-enhanced attacks would still put her out. She doesn’t have a realistic chance.
Iron Man would win in a fight if he could keep distance (ie flight), but close in its not remotely a contest.
Should note that ‘win in a fight’ isn’t the main determiner of power level though, I would tend to take the power levels shown throughout “Immortal Iron Fist” at face value, and he’s not just (specifically) the best martial artist in the world with enhanced physical abilities (master of virtually every martial art), but also has an array of self-enhancing, healing, and even energy projection powers.
There’s also a bit of the Hulk effect, with one charged punch Iron Fist could take 9/10ths of the cast, well presuming a hit (exceptions I see being Dormammu, Shuma, Phoenix and probably hulk. The Fist wouldn’t KILL Wolvie, but it’d turn his muscles to mush for a while, which is arguably just as good)
In general there’s a huge line between the first 12 and the bottom 12, whole different worlds of abilities. IF and IM are kind of floating in the gap between though, if in very different ways.
She-Hulk is essentially Hulk at around 65%. She won’t get as mad as him, but otherwise she retains all of his abilities including one thing he doesn’t exhibit, which is rationality.
Iron Man **should **be higher than Storm, but I don’t have the information yet to prove so.
Rocket Racoon should be higher. He’s a master tactician, expert flight commander and leader, and has an assortment of space-tech weapons and gadgets that are far more powerful than Earth weapons, that he can pull out from (supposely) hammerspace.
In fact, here is my list:
- Shuma-Gorath
- Dormammu
- Doctor Strange
- Phoenix
- Thor
- Ghost Rider
- Hulk
- Dr. Doom
- Nova
- Magneto
- Super Skrull
- Iron Man
- She-Hulk
- Storm
- Iron Fist
- Spider-Man
- MODOK
- Wolverine
- X-23
- Rocket Racoon
- Deadpool
- Taskmaster
- Captain America
- Sentinel
- Hawkeye
Way overestimating Iron Man, imo. His suit is good, but its not THAT good.
Also She-Hulk, the basic problem is that just strength alone is kind of a crappy power, unless you take it to the absolutely absurd levels Hulk does.
I have a deep deep love for Rocket, but he has the normal physical abilities of a Raccoon
Damn, being a girl sucks
If we seriously want a no bias no bullshit Tier list of the Marvel side its actually pretty easy to do.

2.Dormammu
3.Dr.Strange (Classic)
4. Phoenix
5. Thor
6. Ghost Rider
7.Hulk
8. Nova
9. Magneto
10. Super Skrull
11. Dr Doom
12. Storm
13. Iron Man
14. She Hulk
15.Iron Fist
16.Deadpool
17.Wolverine
18.Spider Man
19. X 23
20. Sentinel
21.Captain America
22. Task Master
23. MODOK
24.Rocket Raccoon
25. Hawkeye
This is just in terms of sheer power. Several characters in marvel have different abilities depending on the writer. Thor’s God Blast and Dr. Dooms incredible levels of P.I.S come to mind. If we were talking to the death 1-10 Shuma is the last being standing. 11-25 The last 5 standing would be Doom, Tony, Wolverine, Deadpool and Iron Fist. The winner of that outcome would completely be up to the writer.
Edited to add. Anyone placing Phoenix over Suma Gorath needs to read up on the character. He is basically God with tentacles.
