Rofl, you know what I meant though.
you know though… that’s how i do it, and i can get it most of the time in ST (not on GGPO though - so fucking gay)… just she does hooligan every time.
Hold down mp. You’re probably getting a negative edge hooligan.
hold it down? … i’ll give it a shot.
Mixah: I just tried it. I get the same issue if I don’t hold down mp because I would get a negative edge hooligan. So basically, I do this:
qcf, d+mp (hold), df, f+k, release mp.
Works for me. shrug
whoa, there’s an hd strat thread…huh…
definitely too lazy to go back and read this shit, so i’m just gonna go for what i know lol.
Saw some Cammy’s today in player matches and I am happy that people are picking her more and more.
cr. fk, lk drill, cr. fk lk drill, cr. fk, sp hooligan works wonderfull.
I played a Honda online for a few matches, and man… it is hard. I feel as though I need to guess right against him a lot. Also if he was doing hundred hand slaps on wakeup, I was able to reversal DP out of it every time, which is great, but if I happened to mess up, it hurts a lot. Its like you need to play the matchup perfectly if you want to win, where honda can pretty much do what he likes. I was doing a lot of cr. sp, cr. sk, (on hit) then jumping over him and making him whiff, but it was only getting me so far. I had to guess a lot with the head butt but able to DP him out of it quite easily when successful.
BTW i think i have an ok cammy at this point but I’d like to learn MORE so if anyone is down for games on PSN hit me up for a FT10
The hardest matchups for me thus far are Blanka and Ken. Everyone else I’ve fought, I seem to be able to handle. However, I’ve only fought Ryu, Sagat, Dictator, Claw, Gief, Hawk, Gouki, Chun-Li, Fei-Long, and Cammy along with those two, so…
Pretty recently, Ken has been giving me a lot of problems. Jab SRK spam and I just lock up and don’t know what to do.
You too, huh?
haha yah.
It seems like every couple of days, a new character gives me problems. I’ve “solved” the guile and honda matchups. Deejay is still a pain and I don’t think there’s a solution. Ken is the new problem.
My first problem character was Fei-Long for some reason. I think it was just a personal problem/me playing against an absurdly good Fei-Long. Then it was Guile, and now it’s Blanka/Ken.
Share the wealth, guys.
I think Cammy’s main thing to deal with both Honda and Guile is to simply get in their face and be patient with it. She can poke them both and mix it up. I need a good solution for hundred hands though; if there is one I’m interested in hearing it.
Cannon drills or st. fierce should peg jab DPing Kens. Don’t wait for them to quite start coming down if you’re cannon drilling, by the time the drill gets there they’ll be turned over.
With Blanka, remember that your j. jab and j. strong will beat basically all the Blanka balls, and so does st. jab. If you’re close in on him, attack pretty relentlessly. If you’re not, approach carefully – throw a few st. jabs close together and then take a few steps forward, them jab a little more. You want to be on the offensive for the most part in this fight, and when you’re out of your own reach you want the jabs in the back of his head to let him know (if he doesn’t already) that you will not be hit by random balls. Take that stuff away from him and most Blankas will be out of their comfort zone where they have to start attacking you with other stuff, either by jumping in (cannon spike), trying to get into bite ticks without a charge (various reversals work better with no balls charged), or freelancing with normals when your moves are quicker than his and you’ve got more access to your special moves. Cannon drills will beat electricity, and you can throw them out of it with hooligan too.
Every fight with Cammy is basically about taking them out of their comfort zone and feeling like they have to weather your attack all day because there’s no other safe alternatives. She’s got the defensive tools to do that just enough and enough offensive tools to make them pay for sitting still. Be disciplined and don’t panic. Patient, relentless attack while cutting off the counterattacks… works.
The hardest matchups for me right now are Dictator, Claw, and Honda. I’ve more or less have ways to deal with everyone else but those 3 in particular are giving me issues. Any suggestions? Here’s the issues I’m having with each character.
Dictator:
It seems like everything he does stuffs out Cammy. j.mp stuffs scissors but gets stuffed by Dictators j.mp which leads into 3 hit juggle/knockdowns which I don’t want happening. Also, j.short also gets stuffed by j.mp which again results in juggle/knockdown. Scissor block strings keeps me on the defensive all day and I can’t find what stuffs the block string. The minute I try to do anything and I’m eating a c.forward->scissor or trade with my own c.forward. Scissors will also stuff any hooligan set ups I do. I’m thinking more fake hooligans into throws and being more random with hooligans seem to be the key here.
Claw:
The wall dives don’t always get stuffed by thrust kick unless there is a specific point that you need to do thrust kick in order to safely stuff it each time. Otherwise, Cannon drills seems to sneak past the dives but leaves them with another charge. Claw in general outpokes Cammy but if I can at least get a single knockdown I can usually clinch the match provided I don’t eat a reversal. It’s just closing the distance and avoiding the wall dives is what’s giving me issues.
Honda:
Pfftt…who doesn’t have a problem with Honda. I think this is her worse matchup and I honestly have no clue what works against Honda. I think Cammy can outpoke Honda but hand slaps will put an end to her range and poke games easily. Furthermore, you can’t really rush in or set up hooligans because headbutt/buttslam will stop that as well.
Someone needs to get in there and update the first post of this thread with all known data and matchups. Too bad the OP is never around.
The secret to Fighting Ken comes down to two things: 1) Staying out of his Sweep range. 2) Standing Forward.
Standing Forward is fast enough and reaches far enough that, if you stay out of Sweep range, ON REACTION you can counter the Jab DP and hit it out of the air. That’s the entire key. Hit Ken out of the air with Standing Forward. That’ll keep his DPs honest.
Once you do that, you can resort to more of your normal Cammy games. Cannon Drills and what not. You HAVE to get him to stop DPing first, though, or your game goes to pot. So get good at countering the Jab DP on reaction, and the fight becomes eons easier.
As for Vega, I’m finding out the Cannon Drill is really good against him. As long as he isn’t Jumping Straight up and down to try and counter the Drill, use the right Drill to hit him with the edge of your Drill. The side benefit is that if he goes off the wall, you’ve put yourself closer to where your Roundhouse Cannon Spike can counter it easier, even with the Fake Wall Dive since the Drill recovers so damn fast now. I haven’t tried this strategy out a LOT, so this is pure speculation for now.

Guys, vs. Honda or Dee Jay (et al.) you are S.O.L.
Seriously, Cammy is in incredibly deep shite vs. anyone who turtles well. I have never, ever seen a good Cammy who can win consistently against someone who does what Sirlin suggests in the “how to play” instructions for HDR, i.e. spatial control of horizontal and vertical approach areas.
Your only hope is yomi, or to dance around with hooligans and backfists with enough effectiveness to produce nervous reactions in your opponent. It is not a stratagem that works consistently, but vs. someone who knows how to turtle, you have literally no other option. Sirlin admirably attempted to give her another viable approach vector with the improved drill safety and strong and fierce backfist invulnerability, but they don’t seem to have been enough; random drilling outside low forward range is too risky thanks to projectiles and all the other attacks that stop drills cold (HHS, lightning legs, low strong, etc.), and the backfist is actually dangerous to perform against most people with good reflexes (e.g. she can be tripped after successfully using it to avoiding a projectile).
Actually, now that her other backfists go through projectiles, I’d have preferred it if Sirlin had given her a fast jump, something more like what Claw and Blanka have. (Before, it made sense to give her a slower jump, since she had so much trouble avoiding fireballs.) Having only the drills and the hooligan as pressure moves is not enough. Blanka has a move that goes past projectiles AND he has a safe-on-block rushing attack AND he has a fast jump, why not Cammy?? Would that really make her so much better that Fei Long would be the new worst character in the game?
Plus, Sirlin actually NERFED her uppercut, it’s now a cinch to hit her after blocking it. (Presumably, that was done according to Sirlin’s aim of compressing the rankings without drastically affecting them, though I’m not sure how maintaining her classic TK would have put her above the very bottom of the list.)
I’ll fart around with her every now and then, but now that I know that she’s still easily the worst character in the game, I’ve stopped playing her seriously. I’m getting too old for the masochistic play that she invites. I actually stopped playing Cammy last night, and my win frequency went up considerably – I jumped something like twelve points in the rankings. It felt good, not having to deal with all her massive weaknesses and strain my brain against some twitchy Guile or Honda turtle.
Quick question because I cannot tell and James mentioned her forward.
What has more range? Standing forward or low forward. I can’t use training as a source cause it’s just too damn fast. I was thinking they have the same amount of range, but wanted to make sure just so I had that knowledge readily available when I fight the bigger characters that cannot crouch under her standing forward. Plus, I’m not a fan of buffering Thrust Kick after walking forward when I just want to chip with a safe Cannon Drill.
The hardest matchup for me now seems to be Gief. I’ll see if I can elaborate later, but long story short, I just can’t beat a halfway decent Gief right now.
