Cannon Spike! The Cammy Thread

crossover lk, c.mp, c.mk xx drill still works, iirc.

But off a non-crossover… I don’t really know. Just go for a tick throw. lol.

i tend to s.lk xx cannon spike.

Yeah that works with the lk version of the cannon drill, so it should be a pretty safe crossover. I think you’re better off doing a c.strong, c.forward xx cannon drill by using the c.strong as a meaty. And just keep cannon drill combos to c.strong or c.forward.

I think for some reason though that s.strong, c.forward xx rh. cannon drill will combo from further away.

Yeah, I’m doing it as a Meaty RIGHT NEXT TO the opponent. Trust me, I’ve been doing this Combo for YEARS and YEARS and YEARS of suffering (15 years now?) with crappy Cammy in vanilla ST. And it’s always been my bread and butter. But twice, it has failed me online against Shotos. Again, I need to test it in Training Mode to see what happens, but it’s always been reliable for me in the past.

I don’t know what to tell you man. I’ve been doing it quite consistantly against Ken in training mode. If it helps, its a standing Ken, and the cannon drill needs to come out pretty fast after the c.forward. I can look at it again later today and test it out some more.

Edit: Yeah that works as a meaty combo on the shotos.

need more solid strat against honda

i can’t beat turtle honda

how do you attack him

he can sit in the corner all day

jumping in strong ties with headbutt

if I can get the advantage on life I can win but the problem is getting the damage against a turtle honda

any more ideas? The advice so far has helped but I could use some more info to seal the deal.

Anyone else fucking hate Gief?

Not as much as I hate Honda. :wgrin:

Both suck equally to me. Honda cuz you can’t hit him and Gief cuyz if you get hit, you die!:annoy:

Well, first thing that comes to mind is a turtle honda is relying on you to go offensive. The biggest way to throw him out of his game is to not play it. Turtle and simply push how much paitence he has. I find if you stand jab-spam from across screen, he can try to head-but but gets countered, and you can wait it out until he decides to actually play.

Hardest part is paitence. You have to WILLINGLY wait the full 99seconds to show you will out-wait him, and not give him anything to turtle-counter, forcing him to go to the offense and alowing him to loose life to a hasty mistake, loose life, then alow you to go to turtling with a life advantage and half the timer gone. When he really starts playing offense, remember the basics of countering Honda (Jab for headbutt from med-far, c.mp for HHS, etc), and if you can, get an offense rolling while he’s out of his game.

Chances are when this happens, he’ll go back to turtle, but with less life, and you can again apply pressure through doing nothing but watching the timer.

Dont worry about the life advantage, first neutralzie his gameplan. If you cant rattle that, it wont matter how much of a life advantage you have.

As for Gief, naw. c.mk, s.mk, lk.drlll seems to keep him controlled for the most part, with his inability to really gain ground with a jump, and lt.lariat not really doing much to a meaty lk.cannon, I find gief is often at a disadvantage.

sigh Unfortunately, so true. So very, very, very painfully true.

I have to admit, now… After playing Cammy a bunch online recently, I honestly think she’s worse in this game than she was in Vanilla ST. That’s my gut reaction right now, but sadly, I think it’s true. it just feels like she has more fun while dying now.

  • James

Crouch Fierce works wonder against jumping Giefs, there is no move he has that can straight up beat it… just trade. Of course, that applies to lagless, offline matches where Gief’s height changes mid-jump, throwing off my timing. :frowning:

Don’t ever attack Gief. Just Cannon Drills from super safe distances (and get ready to Cannon Spike after the Drill if he jumped), poke with Low Forwards, and Low Fierce his jumps. Not worth it going for a Cannon Spike, messing it up, and dying because of it. If you keep taht up, it’s really hard for Gief to win, though I will definitely conceded that Gief has a MUCH better chance of winning in this match than in vanilla ST.

  • James

No, you guys don’t understand my situation. I’ve tried and applied all of that stuff before I even came in here.

Gief can c.rh or STANDING FUCKING MP drills on reaction. You can’t jump in on him cuz of latiat. 360 range is dumb as hell.

Shit is sooo hard it’s not even funny.

Right. So use the Low Forward as a means to get in the Cannon Drills. You gotta do tick damage, so you gotta Drill, so if you want to do that, base it allllll around Crouch Forward.

See, here’s the funny thing… in vanilla ST, Cammy could BARELY do "On Sight Cannon Drills’, that is, Cannon Drills that are safe just from good distances. The proper distance for a safe Cannon Drill was such a small window, that all Cammys had to learn to play without On Sight Cannon Drills at all.

So we learned taht tip of the Low Forward canceled into Short Cannon Drill usually produced the safe distance. And on Gief, it almost always did. So if you do THAT to Zangief, he CAN’T hit the Drill because he’s in Block Stun. So poke with Low Forwards and try to hit him with the tip of your Low Forward and cancel it into a Short Drill. Or, just hit him with it, then do Drill, no cancel. He can counter it, possibly, at that point, but the pestering Low Forwards will cause him to pause a bit, especially if you do Low Forward, walk up Low Forward, walk up Low Forward, etc. It’s really annoying, and always recovers in time if Gief Jumps over the Low Forward to land at LEAST a Cannon Spike, sometimes Low Fierce is fast enough as well. Againt Gief, Low Forward is your friend.

Conversely, Gief’s strategy is to trade his Low Roundhouse with your Low Forward. So don’t poke in an obvious pattern, switch it up a lot so he whiffs his Low Roundhouse a lot and you peg it back with your Low Forward. But also, Zangief can now HOP over Low Forward, so be wary of that. Again, your Low Forward is fast, so he HAS to predict to make it over and SPD you. So as long as you scatter your Low Forwards in an unreadable pattern and with unpredictable timing, also accompanied by a few Short Cannon Drills, it’s tough for Gief to properly read it.

I will warn that expert Giefs WILL beat you if that’s all you do. There is obviously a lot more things you need to learn to beat pro Giefs, but this is a great start to beat most good to average to scrubby Giefs.

is it me…or do we have the best first page? lol

i’m going to be updating it soon by gathering more of the strats. keep posting fellas

I am late to the conversation but I am loving rushdown Cammy in this game.

Spinning Knuckles are much better and I can get in closer on Guile now. I prefer Cammy vs Sagat over Chun Li. Granted it is pretty rough against projectile characters (Dic, Honda, Blanka) but I do enjoy the fight.

Yeah, I’m really liking Cammy. I think she my become my main.

i’ve actually done this strat

and that’s not really the problem

seriously i don’t mind waiting him out for the full 99

but i need something to get the advantage

it’s especially hard online since it’s hard to inch forward and block the headbutt compared to say a side by side fight

i’ll definitely try letting him make the first move though!

Like I said, dont think you HAVE to get the advantage right away. Distance spamming jabs to counter a headbutt will be enough, and if he tires anything else from full screne, well, he’s playing to you, not the other way around, which is the important part.

You dont have an advantage in this fight, so dont play like you should. It’s not the way you want to play but if you want to win, you’ll learn how you HAVE to play.
