Candy Cabinet made from scratch with wood?

I’m planning on building one more like the Taito Egret or Sega Astro City, that Lindbergh cab requires a much more expensive LCD, as I’m going with a 26" TV for my cab.

Please, share your building pics here! Good luck!

On gamoover.net (french board), someone is starting a vewlix-inspired wood candy cab.

Looks great, but WTF that layout… Great project btw

If anyone on here could translate that site that would be awesome. I wanted to know what the dimensions of that cab was.

I think this is it:

beautiful work, man! Your cab is sexy!

I just found this thread today and wanted to mention that I didnt take the images of the big black cab down on purpose but I kept exceeding the monthly bandwidth limit and didnt want to upgrade because I thought sooner or later people would stop looking at the images. Even though I kept breaking the monthly qouta, i’m glad everyone cared enough to look. Keep building custom cabs, everybody!

Whoa, L A Akira, great to hear you liked this thread. I’m FcoBenitez from VFDC.

Hey, maybe you can post here some pics of you and the VF’ers playing with in your cab!

Thanks for the post, the french pdf files helped clarify details from the original vewlix cabinet manual.

I have now designed on AutoCAD a ful metal vewlix style cabinet that takes PS3 and XBOX 360.
I have the components to build my own, but I may look into selling this as flatpack in Australia.

Check out that wooden Vewlix in action

AMX360, please post some pictures of the design!

Bah, this thread makes my lack of any sort of wood working (or anything else “handy”) skills all the more painful. Still can’t bring myself to stop looking though, might work up the nerve to try it myself one of these days. Really amazing work.

I would love to know how much the materials cost to make that thing. It makes me jealous that I don’t have access to tools anymore. I’m not the best wood worker but I can get the job done and my girl friend is excellent at wood working too (industrial designer with a furniture background, she’s quite the catch). Some day I will build one.

The layout is a Vewlix layout but with an 8th button added.

Evilink> the guy actually posted it in the thread:

  • paint+painting tools (40)
  • buttons and sanwa joysticks (60)
  • nuts&bolts&stuff (30)
  • the 32" Toshiba 23CV515DG (570)

total amount> ~700
that’s without the ps3 or the pc running Mame.
wood, tools, metalic stand/feets and metal plate he got for free because he knows the right ppl.

I feel EXACTLY the same way

It really is impressive work and I’m definitely envious =)

Nice project, but:
-the screws to maintain the sticks seem not to be that comfortable
-this LCD has a lag of 8ms (officially according to the constructor infos…)
-no aeration system in the closet for the ps3 ?

Subscribed for dimentions

I think there’s a PDF with the Vewlix dimensions the builder did a few post back.

Bah, there you go:D

Wood for free? I want to know the same people he knows.
