Canada Cup 2011 city?

I would love to be there when you attempt to make this happen.

1 Toronto (Mississauga) Ontario CMA 5,113,149
2 Montreal (Laval) Quebec CMA 3,635,571
3 Vancouver (Surrey, Burnaby) British Columbia CMA 2,116,581
4 Ottawa?Gatineau Ontario/Quebec CMA 1,130,761
5 Calgary Alberta CMA 1,079,310
6 Edmonton Alberta CMA 1,034,945

  1. Toronto’s out cause they have the T12 1/2 or whatever it’s called. Doesn’t make sense to get two Canadian Majors. If I have to explain that to you then skip this post and pretend you never read it.
  2. Montreal’s out for the same reason. Too many big tourney’s there already.
  3. Vancouvers out because they don’t really have a dedicated group of players who all try and work towards a solid scene. Also, trying to get the smokeys and mtlers of the nation to come out would be next to impossible.
  4. Calgary proved it could host and did a kick ass job of it, but I think location could be better for a truely national tournament strickly based on travel costs (You can afford to travel don’t give me that look)
  5. Although I love my Edmonton brethern we’re too small potatoes to hold it down properly.

so…
That leaves Ottawa.

Ottawa is pretty much the perfect place to hold this tournament. Large enough population base. Good central location. Hungry player base (assuming based on no major tourney’s). In my humble opinion it’s the best place to hold it down.

Hey Lapchi hows it going I’ll pm you my info well talk, Toronto and the area surrounding has probably the largest scene to support the cost of running a tournament that size. As others stated before we have MTL and the rest of quebec, all the cities in southern Ontario, New York and Michigan and of course the ppl that fly out.
Me and the other guys who help run the scene are more than happy to work with you (MTL organizers included). Toronto is fairly pricey but We’ll be able to get a good deal on venues and what not we got alot of ppl to help out with that.

CC was great and well organized but the rest of you need to realize if that same resources were to be given to experienced tourney organizers itll be mad hype and live (not to discredit the ppl who helped CC happen).

Lap well talk !

bEAST coast, we keep it real …

Do you play on xbl we should some some mahvel. I’m less trash than last time we played. but still trash non the less

We hold tournaments every few months but TST is definitely the one we put the most work into. We also do attempt to hold tournaments for other games, it’s just that usually the draw ends up not being there. We’d be willing to hold anything that gets international interest though.

Anyways, no matter what city you hold it in, there’s always going to be players who are going to have trouble attending and call the tournament B.S. because they didn’t attend it. The less consistency, the more confused players will be in general. Consistency and letting the players know what to expect is VERY underrated when it comes to running these types of events.

It seems overall that the issue is not the venue or that people hate Calgary (even if it’s a little more expensive) but just that there’s a lot of notable players who can’t attend. In that case, that should be where the money and the work goes into. Canada Cup’s already been established. It’s just now time to make sure that it lives up to that name.

Thanks for the constructive post! Its really painful to see all the hate on here. I just love the game and hope we can keep playing for years to come, no matter what part of the country we in.

^^^^

You want a bigger success ?

i also thing calgary is awesome city.

Lapchi: You said who could attract euro payers? That is MTL by very far. We are in touch with Starnab who is prolly the best player in France and one of our own (Chi Rithy) is going there this month to a big tournament.

In Toronto please  or Nunavut.

lap chi, everyone knows you should host the next Canada Cup in the city just a few hundred kilometres north. Edmonton please.

Winnipeg is the neutral here =D

heres the greatest idea. pick the city whose hockey team places the highest after the regular season is over. sorry winnepeg and regina. (toronto and edmonton too)

Vancouver! how i miss my home town

Out of that list of 6, ottawa is the worst place to have the tournament imo. Getting a solid mix of TO/MTL is much worse than getting all of one with less of the other, I’m certain the numbers and skill level just won’t compare. You’d miss out on so much of the drawing power that you could expect if you hosted it in TO where you can count all of southern ontario as well (sauga/hamilton/windsor/london/loo/ etc.) which all have dedicated scenes, with people who will not only join the tourney but help out in running a bigger event. Ottawa is just too far for a lot of the average player base in southern ontario (which is where your numbers come from), and you want to be drawing from the largest pool available. If you’re going to hold a tournament on the EC with money similar to the CC, it needs to be in TO or MTL.

However, I agree with others that the CC should remain in calgary (why ruin a good thing?), but if you can find a way to pull funds into the T series, a rebranding might be a great way to create hype. CC east?

next CC will be in calgary or vancouver, eh Lap? hahahha

re-branding the T series as CC east sounds like a good idea to me

I say we hold the Canada Cup in North Korea, that way we’ll be known across the globe even to non-SF players.

I’m also down with this. In the end, it’s just a name, and let’s be honest - “Canada Cup” has much more drawing power, the “T” series is only recognizable to the old heads.
