Canada Cup 2011 city?

lap cheurng you should hold it in GANGCOUVER!!!

Don’t bother moving it away from Calgary. Technically any other large city would be good as well but having a floating destination each year isn’t going to encourage internationals to attend. If you want international players to attend of their own accord rather than paying them to attend you need to establish a permanent location and a pedigree. Look at other big tournies. Season’s Beatings in Columbus Ohio and Evo is out of Vegas.

Keep it in Calgary but hook up with the other regional organizers and figure something out to get the best players in Canada to next year’s CC so that Canada has better representation overall.

he’s not kidding. i’ve seen what he does to people’s faces. wayyyy too much mascara, uneven toner application, highlights around your eyes that don’t match their color whatsoever… he’ll make you look like a whore for clowns. never let this man near your face!

I’m sad I’m going to work now. I look forward to some quality reading when I get homes folk. Good night and good luck.

it would be pretty expensive to run something like this in downtown toronto, and not sure if the suburbs would be easy for people to get to. There are some places near the airport though that would work.

i like that idea too but if it has to be on a smaller scale then hell no lapchi. i know you man, you always aim higher, not lower.

i agree 100%

We(east coast) could put one together no problem, some of our (either mtl or toronto) tournaments have had 150+ people…so we know how to run things big and small. What we dont have is a shitton of money. those of you in the west keep saying East is complaining cause they cant do something like this on our own. You’re right, we can’t, atleast not on a CC level, but guess what, without lapchi the west wouldnt have had anything even remotely close either.

Money talks, money got EVERY SINGLE ONE of those top players to the CC, not our talent, not our venue, not calgary, Money.

The CC was a great tourney, in terms of organisation and the way it ran, but without the top players(and the money put into getting them to come) would it have been such a success?

Yeah im rambling, my point is, those of you saying the east cant organize something themselves need to step back and think, without lapchi would any of this have happened? If we are capable of throwing huge sick tournament with no money, dont you think a tourney with actual funding would be epic?

In the end its lapchis decision on where to host it, its HIS MONEY, not ours, please stop talking as if EVERYONE in the west coast had something to do with the CC. Everyone needs to stop talking as if they own the rights to said event, only Lapchi can do so. He asked for cities to post their strengths and resources so HE can make a decision, he didnt ask for another flame war.

.02 from a scrub.

Do you have any idea of pricing?
I need to get a hold of TO’s and Van’s tournament organizers because if The Canada Cup was going to another city it can not be done there without them.

The idea if hosting in Calgary is understandable but only 10 people from EC showing up for 2011 it would just have all the trash talk all over again.

there is going to be trash talk anyway. if we have it out east and there isn’t hate, its because Calgary & Edmonton know you personally and won’t say anything, and Vancouver is too laid back to care. Otherwise though avoiding hate, especially from faceless ppl on forums as big as SRK, is impossible.

just name it the lapchi cup and nobody from the EC will complain anymore.

I should note that “capable of fending for themselves” included some presumption that dem big timey eastern city folk could find money considering the heavier population density and generally larger economy.

Maybe that isn’t a reasonable belief when the costs are higher.

Calgary

I’m with Shane (ShinAkuma204) on this one. Calgary should keep it and we can definitely think about sponsoring people from the different provinces to come in. I’m sure every province can hold some sort of tournament much like MTL did and send over one person.

I’m kinda worried that I won’t be able to hit up all the Canadian tournaments as well as Evo next year. So I’ll have to choose wisely.

I know you guys (especially Canadians don’t like to hear) is that Canada’s population is only 34 million and if any of you ever read ANY kind of history in ANY country, you would know that the whole population from Boston to Maryland is the same population in density as the WHOLE COUNTRY OF CANADA. So saying that you guys want to have a tournament in a city with over a million people in it, it’s kind of ridiculous.

Obviously, the TOP choices in Canada are:

  1. Toronto
  2. Montreal
  3. Ottawa
  4. Calgary
  5. Vancouver
  6. Halifax
  7. Quebec City (And nobody wants to go there)
  8. Winnpeg

So far these are the big cities in Canada and the rest of the cities have populations under 400,000 people. Whatever city you can name besides the ones I said, is under 400,000 people. Probably London, Mississauga and Hamilton but after that, NO WAY!!

See in the states, they have a population over 300 million people so it’s easier to have a major tournament in the states there because every few hours, there is a big city. One example is that Detroit is over 1 million and after a few hours is Chicago, Columbus and Cincinatti. You know what I’m saying. You guys should know more about geography and history alot more now. I know you won’t.

We should have the next tournament in Toronto because most of the players are from the east coast whether the players on the west coast likes it or not. After that is Montreal. I would try my best to come there for sure if you have a Canada Cup in Toronto. Toronto is the BEST choice especially for us East Coast peeps. West Coast is not that popular compared to the east.

You guys should have a vote to see who will have the next Canada cup. Let’s see what happens. Thanks amigos!

as i mentioned before, theres a requirement for this because we want the tourney to be hoested in a big city, not some small town in southern ontario, dont be butthurt

btw if canada cup 2 is indeed in TO and the legendary johnson bros show up i will money match you for any dollar amount

Halifax, Quebec city and Winnipeg before Edmonton?

Damn we are small

I say either vancouver or toronto/mtl.

We’re clearly the best at being Canadian because we’re so modest no one remembers we exist.

Well the other discussion that has kinda been touched on is the cost of travel. Right now there’s no location set in stone, but for the sake of discussion, say 2011 is hosted in Calgary. Would things like flight group rates or some way to ease the cost of travel entice more of you Eastern Canada guys to attend?

No matter how it goes down, 2011 will be a much bigger event than 2010 and I think talking about how we can get as many people from every part of Canada is integral to the success of the event. Coast isn’t as relevant as getting the country together imho.

When I think of it, if Toronto and mtl are having tournaments with 150+ people, then why can’t the west side of Canada have a major just like east canada does? You guys have the T series and your march tournament (Atleast i think the march tournament still goes on) Winnipeg has the TST tournaments, not sure if they have any others. I don’t know of any large provincial tournament that BC host, Edmonton has WCC/ABD and Calgary has the cup series. I don’t really think they should move Canada cup. This is just imo. I like the idea of eastern Canada having large tournaments as well as west, but the west NEEDS something
