What the fuck is the point of this thread??
You have some very specific criteria that only a few cities in Canada are going to meet.
You know the only real options are Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, or Montreal.
Did you just start the thread to get some fucking flame wars going??
I swear some people have more fucking money than brains.
Well to try to steer this back on track and flesh out my earlier post…
Toronto has everything you want: many viable venues, very easy to get flights to from just about anywhere, tons of hotels all throughout the city, very good public transit for anyone visiting, and a huge community ready to attend and support your event.
If anything you can even use Toronto to hype your tourney further because of all the shit talk regarding the west coast players.
Montreal has very similar offerings but people speak French there sometimes and that scares people.
The hate isn’t on the tourney, it’s on you primarily.
Even though I didn’t attend 2010, I wouldn’t mind if it was held in Calgary again. I don’t see a reason why not. Vancouver costs aren’t exactly cheap. I mean, I’m sure deals can be found and made but I doubt things like hotels, air plane tickets and venues will be as cheap as they would be elsewhere.
Personally I think the location should be in an easy access location, where we can draw in the most people and most talented players. Not only that, but the location should probably be consistent. Evo is always in Las Vegas, isn’t it?
Being hosted in the west gives the advantage of top Japanese people coming in (cheaper to get here), plus the large skill pool from California is directly below us.
The way I see it, somewhere in the west seems to fit the bill.
It was just a bit of friendly advice. You think we golf clap on this side of the country? And i feel sorry that you only think a tourny that has tons of money thrown at it is worth going to. I’ve gone to a bunch of the EC majors and though not “major” in the sense that CC was, it certainly had 10x the talent coming from canada than your tourny did.
I have checked for tickets to Mtl from Calgary and it is damn expensive to fly direct. I understand why EC doesn’t want to spend $1000 for a weekend just to fly to Calgary, but West coast would have to spend the same amount to get there. Winnipeg would be awsome but some people aren’t just there for ssf4.
What about Calgary to Toronto? I would imagine it would be cheaper… airfare in this country is ridiculous in general though.
East coast seems like the better choice, all bias aside… you have the cheapest airfare from the US to Toronto and you’ll be able to easily get attendance from NYC and Montreal. Hosting on West Coast you make it slightly easier on the California crowd for travel time (but very similar pricewise) but make it prohibitively expensive for east coast Canada which would otherwise have a very large, strong showing.
Toronto would be the best choice. I mean you got New York City, Ottawa and mtl within driving distance. Winnipeg is very close. Detroit players would come up like VDO, flap etc etc.
It’s a good chance you’d have the possible showing.
