Can we talk about the character redesigns?

Because none of the most iconic MK characters actually change much in terms of design. They still follow the same design cues from the original designs.

Also, Street Fighter borrows a more anime/manga aesthetic, and how many times do you see main characters change their clothes. Heck, Goku is still wearing the exact same gi after 30 years.

But even so with MK they changed their designs so that they’re not wearing literally the exact same stuff from the beginning. Ryu, Cammy and Chun literally don’t look any different except for very minor changes. Compare Subzero and Scorpion now to MK1. Now do it with Ryu and Chun. I’m hard pressed to think of anyone who wouldn’t have minded Ryu’s alt to his default. At the very least they could have given Chun her Alpha clothes. Nope same old vanilla Ryu and Chun.

Edo Tensei! O_O

Again, it’s the anime/manga influence.

Also, SF characters designs have less details to play around with than MK characters. The former are more like comic book designs, while the latter are more like comic book movie designs. Drastic changes in costume/design are usually made to symbolize something other than it just being a new game - they either indicate the passage of time, or some story related change which, also makes keeping track of these things easier.

Give him grey highlights or full grey hair and grey full beard and leave it at that.

something like this, not that ugly ass rope thong thing though.

I really like Bison’s. Best design next to Alpha easily, the greatcoat is sweet. Hair needs with though

Karin is wearing her underwear on the inside! Hurray! Otherwise my only issues are that her lower half is kind of boring, her face has too much baby fat (should be more angular, regal cheekbones), and her hair looks like her scalp was just colored yellow.

Nash, Nash I hate. They’ll make money off me for an Alpha costume for him those clever bastards. Same with Birdie.

Cammy’s face is still weird to me, very Norwegian.

In case I haven’t hammered it in they need to tov rework almost all the hair

And that pretzel on his back? XD I mean, I know he’s poor but it’s sort of fun to see he’s now sponsored by a pretzel company XD

Maybe a “King Cobra” styled Sean? O.O

No i mean a drastic line change as for sfv Ken, KC imho still look too shoto

demon purple shoto
brazil yellow shoto
joke pink shoto
black black shoto

This they should avoid

King Cobra looked cool (even if i like more the crazy tall Jabbar concept), just fuck recycle the shoto design base.

From shit to shit, lol

It’s weird to see some characters look like they aged about 20 years (check Dhalsim, Bison, etc) and others look just as young as always

I would have liked them to go full on this, instead of this “semi aging” approach

Dhalsim doesn’t really look older when you consider that the only thing that changed was him joining no shave November.

Yeah, I thought about that. Bearded Ryu being the default costume could have been a good idea, but… you know.

Loving Dhalsim’s turban and beard. It gives him more character and actually plays up his religious devotion to Hinduism which was something that you new was apart of his character but was never really expanded upon.

I’m a travel and culture nerd, so I eat this shit up.

That rose outfit looks like shit and it’s always bothered me. It’s a tribute to the character I played in the Dnd arcade game, the thief chick. Except, they decided to make the pants transparent. She looks like she’s wearing a slutty grocery bag as pants.

Dhalsim with a beard looks weird, I’ll probably use whatever alt removes it if I ever even use Dhalsim.

how can you hate grandpa sim?

You realize that he is like 1-3 years older than he was in SF4 right?

Santa Sim is more appropriate.

Agree somewhat with the base idea, but not because it’s weird. If anything, it’s not weird enough. Beard and turban is hardly a unique look, and it’s not really “Dhalsim” to me. I preferred having him look more like a monk. They could update his look in other ways, although maybe some of them would have brought him closer to Oro.

Funny considering I actually like Dhalsim, he’s the only one of the redesigns that I actively dislike to any extent. The others are fine to me, and my main gripe has been that the wrestlers weren’t redesigned enough (although I reserve judgment on that because I don’t play grapplers anyway, so grappler fans can have what they want.)

I think they could’ve safely been more liberal with Zangief and Cammy redesigns. They look too much like their SF4 counterparts, and really it’s been more than 20 years since they debuted. I’m talking strictly appearance-wise.

Hate is a strong word but I liked the idea that he had good hygiene.
