Can we talk about the character redesigns?

Is the implication here that beard=bad hygiene? Because that’s dumb.

I find Vega’s “take off the claw” move to be extremely intrusive.

But he was so impeccably shaven.

I was hoping charlie would get the robocop treatment, cyber charlie! rocket punch!

I’m pretty happy with all changes so far.
The cast proves its beard growing skills.Even Laura has one in some pictures.

Out of all I’m very disapointed that they didn’t change Chun more, I mean just making her legs bigger every game, they could have made so much more with her. New Outfit, new Hair, new legs(pls!). But nope, they took her original one.

Well otherwise.
Cammys is ok, the tactical gear reminds me of Cannon Spike. Legcamo is gone, but she has this time real fighterlegs, muscular and trained, and not only thick like in IV. Hair is longer and she is even more muscular, everything ok over there. And I can’t wait for her Pre-order one to see it in action.

Kens is really cool looking, his hair is a probleme, like most others, but everything else is really good.

Charlies is ok, I like his Genocide Cutter a lot.

As much as I dislike Dhalsim,I realy like his new Outfit and the gameplay changes. He doesn’t seem to be as bland as before.

From all redesigns I like Bisons the most. His Stance and Walkanimation are so bosslike. He is smiling the whole time and the changes to his outfit are good.

To me, Ken freaking looks like they put a handlebar hairstash on a hideous neanderthal face. He looks absolutely terrible. I don’t give a crap what his cool, hip clothes look like. I care about his freaking face! That is what is Ken to me. Throughout SF history the character portraits are what show the best representation of how the character looks. They are the most detailed artistic expressions of the character. Granted now we’ve gotten away with character portraits because their in-game models are supposed to be visually impressive enough. Well, Ken’s is not. Ken does not look like Ken. He looks ugly. His hair is also the worst showing of how bad hair in general is in this game. It’s like Capcom doesn’t know how to use their game design engine to render good hair.

This is what happens when you Cheap your way out and use an open engine such as Unreal Engine. Just look at the previous generation - There are dozens of shitty games made on it because devs don’t know how to properly code around it, which often resulted in graphical and performance issues

This is why it’s weird that Capcom decided to not develop/use an in-house built engine this time

Most likely due to time constraints and wanting to get the game out to the public as quickly as possible. Hell Guilty Gear went from in house 2D sprites to Unreal Engine also.

Because this is their effort to address one of the biggest problems of Japanese game design in the past decade. They’re costs run higher because they tend to use their own engines, sometimes even having one engine just for one game/franchise. Using an existing engine, from a company that specializes in making engines is a much more efficient way to make games. Why reinvent the wheel when somebody already makes wheels you can use?

As for the hair, one thing to consider is that Capcom isn’t using standard hair rendering methods for SFV. Instead of the usual methods that result in soft, flowing hair, they’re going for a style that can do hair in the more solid, chunky style you’d see in old Capcom games. Yes, it doesn’t work for some of the characters, but it also allows characters like Nash and Birdie to have hair that feels more “Capcom” than if it were rendered the usual way.

A few characters’ faces look odd, not just Ken. R. Mika looks pretty weird as well facially. It’s hard to say why, something about her eyes and nose just doesn’t look right.

I will say though that Chun-Li looks absolutely gorgeous in this game, best she’s looked ever in fact.

Don’t bring up the girls faces. Because all that will happen is that people will complain about how the original faces were better and that Capcom fixing them is just pandering to the Japanese and weaboos.

Superior japan-approved Cammy is one of the few right moves

I’m more perplexed about why they keep change Chun’s that was already good (better) when many other girls like Mika, Karin, Ken and Vega desperately need face surgery

Lol
