At EVO top 8 we hardly saw the training stage, did the organizers advise the players to pick something else?
Anyway picking the training stage offline on xbox is a load of bull, they are fine, even the mother effing volcano stage is no problem.

I usually hate training stage in games. In fact, in SF4, I always pick underpass, in SFXT, the pipeline, in BBCP, the snow stage (snow stages are gdlk in all fighters) unless we’re using two characters who can create lag like Azrael vs. Kokonoe, etc etc. This is a rather stubborn way to view things, but I’m not going to take away from my enjoyment by playing in a place full of squares just because the dev can’t make the vast majority of stages lagless. I mean, I’ll certainly compromise in an actual tournament but fuck that in casuals.
I’m totally fine with Training Stages. I don’t pay attention to the background anyway and hey it apparently runs better so why not, right? My only problem is the music whenever I hear it. Never been a big fan of Training Stage themes when music is bound to stages (especially SFIV series’ training music Jesus God I can’t stand it). Like when the match is transitioning between rounds and the music is all you hear for a good 3 or so seconds as the screen fades out after the winning character does their victory pose and quote, then you have to wait there listening to that music for those 3 or so seconds until the announcer yells out “Round 2 FIGHT” or whatever. It’d be great if games offered BGM selection like with most ArcSys games IMO.
Completely agree with the OP. We need to stop picking training stage unless called for. Contrary to popular opinion there is no proof that even the PS3 version of SF4 drops the framerate on any stage. Digital Foundry (best in industry at testing) found both 360 & ps3 versions consistently LOCKED at 60fps on all the normal stages. MvC3 on the other hand does drop below 60 on some stages and does so more frequently on ps3. Both consoles can drop below 60fps if they overheat which is less likely on training stages but in properly ventilated cool environments their is no reason for this to be a concern.
I especially get annoyed when I see players on pc picking training room. Any even slightly modern gpu can play sf4 well above 60fps under any circumstances.
Too many posts about using training stages to minimize lag, when people are forgetting that there are other reason that players (i.e. Infiltration) pick it - because the lines help them win.
In SF4, I pick it mostly because it’s a nice looking stage.
Clean lines, good colors, aaaaaand nothing else. Perfect.
I’d like to once again stress that if you like seeing the squares because it helps you (or you just fucking love squares) or if a game/internet lags on certain stages I am not talking to you.
I’m talking to these people that think picking anything else isn’t allowed.
There aren’t any of those people.
You’re making an impossible argument. There isn’t a single person on Earth that doesn’t fit into what you described in your first sentence yet still picks training stage constantly.
lol this man speaks the truth…awesome themes are getting missed out on
I usually pick training stage as a sign of respect to my opponent. If someone’s really on the ball and giving me a hard time, it’s kind of my way of saying “You’re making me really need to hit the training room, thank you!”
Training Stage + Character Theme >>>>>>>>>>>>> Everything.
Sure, i do like other stage, but i’m kinda OCD, so i “need” to play on a symmetrical stage and Training Stage is the best. Or maybe some modded stage (based PC modders) that looks symmetrical too.
BTW… I love squares. Really.
It has lines at constant intervals.
It’s the stage you have to practice on in Training (at least in SF4, some other games allow you to choose)
Nothing whatsoever is moving aside from the characters.
People pick the stage because it’s bland, boring, and constant. You’ve retracted your argument to the point where it doesn’t even apply to anyone anymore, as MotM said, and it boils down to you not liking the training stage because it’s bland, boring, & constant and complaining that nearly every match you see people are picking the training stage for some peculiar reason.
Just because you never saw any STAGE lag on your PS3 doesnt mean it doesnt exist.
Anyone whos played the game on different platforms can see it slows down on the PS3 version. Ive witnessed this many times.
On the PC version, when you play someone for the first time how do you know what kind of PC they have ? Shouldnt you do everything in
your power to have a lag free game? If that means picking the training stage then so be it.
Oh and not any modern GPU can play SF4, I played on my GFs laptop and it wasnt powerful enough to run SF4.
Whats to say the guy your playing on isnt also on a budget laptop ?
You ever play E. Ryu or Oni in the freaking Jungle, Solar Eclipse, or even jurrasic park? Fuck those stages and fuck lag if you’re trying to play seriously. It’s already bad enough most people STILL don’t play on CRT or a Lagless monitor. Training Stage should be standard along w/ other low lag stages on all platforms.
I think it should be mandatory that USF4 be played on the SFxT Half Pipe stage at all casuals, tournaments and online so USF4 players have to listen to this song forever.
Preach
Nope.
The only concession I made from my original point was that if you like the stage I’m not telling you what to do.
make volcanic rim tournament standard pls
The fuck!? Unless you’re playing a game from the pre-HD era you shouldn’t be playing on a CRT. Modern games look so small on them.
