The most non-ignorant post on GD in a while. I’m serious.
Nothing irks me or makes me more irritated than people calling all EDM “techno”. In my opinion one of the most common misconceptions in music ever. I wonder who was the genius who began using “techno” as a general term for this genre of music…
Well, I was half kidding. Although you’re going to have to accept the fact that a lot of this stuff is made by computers these days without actual musicians or artists being involved.
Well if you think about it, ‘techno’ is short for ‘technological’ and since the music is made with mostly digital instruments I can see how easy it is to start calling all electronic dance music techno. Not to mention that pretty much all genres and sub-genres of music are usually one to three syllables in length (hip hop, rock, punk rock, classical, jazz, rhythm and blues was shortened to r n’ b, jungle, dubstep, death metal).
Awesome! I roughly knew the differences in the sub genres but this really was an eye opener. I have to say that I can’t stand a lot of electronic music(dub step is the worst of them), but I love me some Progressive Trance when I’m driving.
Eventhough house music historically takes credit by being created by the black gay communities in Chicago and popular within the gay community which gives it that “gay” vibe, it’s still probably the best well produced sub genre of EDM. Ironically, French House is IMO one of the least “gay” types of house lol.
I don’t know how anyone would put techno over house. Don’t get me wrong, techno can be good, but come on haha.
