Can I get some 'zerts? The Parks and Recreation thread

I can’t believe we’re almost done with season 3 and there has never been an official thread for this amazing show. Parks and Recreation is what The Office was in seasons 2-3. It’s the most brilliantly written single camera comedy on TV right now. It really feels like all the good writers from The Office jumped ship and joined the writing team of Parks.

So, let’s discuss Parks, your favorite episodes, your favorite characters, moments that killed you, etc.

Ron Swanson is the manliest thing on TV. The Duke Silver episode was damn amazing; even more amazing was that they brought up the reference in the birthday episode.

This last week’s episode The Fight may be the funniest episode of the show’s run. I have literally watched it four times since it aired. Everyone drunk was amazing, but nothing is as amazing as Ron Swanson dancing with April’s hat on…

? ? ? Didn’t watch it last week on the Hulu, gonna have to do it now.

Somebody who deserves a damn Emmy is the redhead who plays the crazy christian lady. I have never been so hilariously infuriated by one person in my life. I want to both strangle her and congratulate her on playing that part so well. Similarly big ups to the lady who hated parks in the first season.

One thing that is pretty wonderful is how much growth the characters have had from season to season. Only one that’s kinda stuck in place is Tom but I think that’s because they aren’t sure where to take him just yet. The character is great, Aziz is fantastic at playing him, but it may be that he’s gotten a bit overshadowed by some of the other storyline aspects.

Shotouts to Donna for having more play than all of the internet. Bet she could take anybody in this site and leave them a husk of a man.

donna is a crazy good opera singer

there’s an episode of doug loves movies podcast where she shows off her skill

His favorite movie? Is BOOKS.

funniest show in the nbc thursday night block

Yeah this season they stepped it up big time. I really think getting rid of Mark and bringing in Ben and Chris was a great idea, they round out the cast alot better.

Andy is funny as hell.

I don’t think the writers knew what to do with Mark as a character since he didn’t have something solid. He was supposed to be the straight face to a whole cast of wacky people but the rest of the characters came into their own as people and in their zaniness.

Also shotouts to beef burgers. The only way is the Swanson way.

Yeah, this show has done nothing but progress in it’s short time. Leslie almost came off as a sort of Michael Scott type character in season 1, but really established herself starting with season 2…and 3 has just stepped that game up more…

I’d say my top 5 fave eps are:

1 - The Fight (S3E13)
2 - Park Safety (S2E19)
3 - Soulmates (S3E10)
4 - Harvest Fest (S3E7)
5 - Ron & Tammy pt 2 (S3E4)

When the dude goes to the vegan store, and tosses the fake bacon into the garbage. shit had me roflcoptering. i’m really liking the comedy selection on TV - there’s parks and rec, community, 30 rock, and modern family, all brilliant and well written.

I prefer chicky chicky parm parm. Also, food rakes.

Hugh Mad.

Bean blankies for life!

Season finale tonight. Actually 2 eps tonight, one being the finale. Only 16 episodes this season, sad…

However, they accomplished more laughs in those 16 episodes than 95% of the comedies on TV right now running full seasons.

Ron Swanson is the best character on TV right now. I love the episode where Ron and Leslie go to Indianapolis and Ron finds the steakhouse closed down. “I should have been here!”

I watched “The Fight” and it was ok. Shows with extremely unrealistic situations and characters are hit or miss for me. I’ve watched the last 3 or 4 seasons of The Office because of the characters Andy, Phyllis, Angela, Ryan, Toby, Gabe, and a few others. The show would suck if the actors weren’t so good. AD is another example. A beautiful retarded woman working for a supposed English spy and then a closeted gay man dressed as Godzilla fighting a flying teenager while horrified and embarrassed Japanese businessmen look on could have been stupid, but the actors made it great. I didn’t think the acting, or maybe it’s just the characters, in Parks was as good.

Another thing that bothers me in general: what’s so hard about actually getting drunk for a scene? Is there a clause in their contracts that forbids it? Bad sober actors acting drunk doesn’t work. As a bonus, at least the puke would look real instead of clearly being a few ounces of clam chowder held in the actors’ cheeks for a few seconds. Nobody pukes in a tiny short burst. What are these actors being paid for? Get drunk!

I disagree with most of this. The only thing I agree with is the comment about AD. The absurdity of the situation worked well in my opinion. I’ve watched the episode like 5 times now and I still die laughing every time…

This is Food ‘n’ Stuff.

It’s where I buy all of my food.

And most of my stuff.

The jury was still out for me on this show until bacon wrapped shrimp happened.
