add K-Terry
Yamazaki may very well be the best SNK character, but a lot of people just don’t like him. I would have to agree that he probably is the best though.

I’m sorry, but am I the only person who plays Kim now??? When I started playing CVS2, Kim was being played by hella fools. Oliver was tricky as hell with Kim, and those guys out in Milpitas loved him for some reason. Now I look at this thread and only one person has mentioned Kim, and that guy didn’t provide any argument for him. I’m not gonna take the time to post the Korean technology, but if you want to see Kim (in K or C-Groove, anyway) come to Sunnyvale. He ain’t top tier, but he’s tech for now.
Don’t forget C-Terry which is his best IM:o. Kim seemed interesting at first, but after I saw that NONE of his normals can beat Sagat’s Fierces and J.RK with his anti-air S.HK I gave up on him.
Kim can be pretty crazy… once again i give props to final showdown still cant forget watchin him in montreal… i think terry’s grooves are as follows: p,c,a … but that’s just me…
anyway… no more drunken posting…
Standing forward is anti-air for anyone’s jumping anything, it’s all about the timing. Crouching Fierce too, as well as jumping Fierce and Jumping forward. Kim’s normals are great anti-air if you learn how to use them. Sagat’s fierce gets tapped by standing short or standing jab. You can cresent kick after he sticks out a fierce, or standing roundhouse into stance kicks if he sticks out a fierce. Kim has a lot of good moves and combos. Don’t give up on the Korean Beast yet.
Pretty much every character bar 3 can be competitive with top tier if you’re willing to put in the time and effort. Obviously its easier to learn some characters, and obviously its easier with some but you can compete.
And how about Yama, Kyo, Iori, A-Todo, Geese (considered top tier in Japan?), Hibiki can all be played competitively…and im gonna go out on a limb and say that Rock is cool as well - my SNK character of choice.
Gawsome: Yamazaki is considered top tier in Japan mainly for his S.RK, nonsuper combos that do 25% damage, and Serpent Slash.
Kyo for his excellent combos that can do a lot of damage and his mixup game.
A-Todo for his CC that can do 45% in chip damage and 50% actual hit damage.
Iori for his excellent pokes, roll, and combos.
Geese can counter super Nuff Said!!! Good pokes and damaging combos too. Plus Raging Storm is one of the most damaging supers in the game.
Geese also has a very good crossup.
Which, if it connects, leads to a relatively simple combo to Deadly Rave, stop at RH, c.jab, s.fierce XX forward Ja-Ei-Ken. Nearly 10000 damage.
Or a simple c.jab, s.fierce XX forward Ja-Ei-Ken off the crossup for 3000-4000 damage.
Also, I don’t recall Yama remaining in the top tier…
Zaki brings the pain. His AA super in K is dope, and he’s got an arsenal of moves and some nice combos. Personally he’s the only SNK character I’ve ever really torn into and felt comfortable with, and now he’s a staple in my playing.
Terry gets props, and Geese has the ridiculous supers in C as well as a rounded set of strikes. Bottom line is, if you wanna use somebody and focus in on their strengths, and you ain’t using Kyosuke, King, or the bitch with tonfas whose name I don’t even remember, then you should be just fine.
Buddy of mine tore up with an Eagle / Terry / Guile (2) for a while. He’s since moved on, but the team was formidable, because he pushed every character to the brink. So it goes.
I would have to say that the best SNK characters are:
Yamazaki
Geese
Kyo
Iori
Hibiki
I wanna put Mai, Rock, and Terry up there, but the are sort of iffy. I’ve seen really good Rocks and Terry’s, and some real good zoning Mai’s. Athena has that Fierce:lol: A funny thing to me about Rugal is that his bad matches actually aren’t the top tiers.
I’m a little late about the Iori thing but idc, he owns in N period. He has a few horribly bad match ups in A Bison and some others, but other than that, hes really good. RC Rekkas own you :o.
I use P and my stongest team right now is Blanka,Kyo,TerryR2.
The SNk side is better then the Capcom side in Chaos I’ll tell you that. I really think Chang,Rugal,Geese,Iori,Terry,Yama,Joe,Nak,Yuri, Rock, and Kyo are all really good in CvS2. King,Mai,Ibiki,Athena, and Vice are not that good imo. Kyo is harder to use then Iori to me. But Kyo and Iori are main guys on my p groove teams. I need Bmanka though to bait cc activations.

Your crazy if you think Mai, Hibiki, and Athena aren’t good. Mai can zone/turtle really good. Hibiki has some of the best normals in the game and can turtle/zone also. Athena has c.fierce, nuff said. Oh yeah, she can turtle good too:lol: .
RC Rekkas lose to jump up HK. RC Rekka abuse is what gets Iori killed.
I’ll say Ryo because I’m biased, and for no reason whatsoever.
… Well, his B&Bs do ridiculous damage in K. He’s good with smalljump.
I’m just bullshitting. We all know it’s Yama and Geese. I missed what made Kyo so fantastic and haven’t experimented with him, so can anyone point out what makes him good?
yama is fuckin top tier!!!
yes, i know he dies badly to vega and doesnt do too well vs mai, rolento, nak or even balrog(kinda), but still, hes good against majority of the other characters.
sure he doesnt have no 9K+ super, but he has too much going for him. great pokes, jump ins, blocked chains, zoning game, supers, roll, RCs and damaging b&bs.
he even have a counter move to be used against RCs.
I also think Iori, Hibiki and Geese is top tier.
iori because of his damaging CCs, RCs, roll, b&bs, good pokes (c.mp,standing hk) and jump ins (crossup lk, j.hk)
hibiki cuz she is an ultra defensive turtling whore
and geese because of the sheer damage he can dish out and take. not to mention he can shred your guard meter faster a razor thru a piece of paper, powerful pokes and jump ins.
Yama is a SNK scrub character. No need to be so proud that you’re an expert using him. My 9 year old brother knows how to use him too.
Mai is a decent zoner, but moreso, she’s also a feared counter-turtler. Her speed and somewhat improved footsie game makes her better at close-up range. Mix it in with her Windmill Demolisher (kick throw), Cro. For. Mid kick, and crouching fierce, and she can be as annoying as Athena. If they start figuring you out at close-up, do her light charged Musasabi no Mai and reel to a safe distance.
King is so underrated in this version. I think that one of the lessons I’ve learned in playing CvS2 is NOT, and I do mean NOT, to underestimate a good King. She has some good air-to-air hits, decent footsie close-up stuff, and her Trap Shot was granted good priority. She builds up supers as fast as Morrigan as an added perk. I’m not saying she’s overly great, but there’s more to her than how she appears.
I have an objection toward Hibiki being a good turtler. IMO, a good Mai or Maki can stop even some of the better turtlers in the game. Just depends on how good of priority the moves of a character have. Hibiki does have her defense and her damaging supers, but all in all, I think that’s all she has. Nakoruru could have a better shot at being top in the same style as Hibiki because Nak has her Annu Matsube and Lela Matsube.
Those are my two cents.

in other words, yama is the cammy of snk.
I’m only going off a personal experience with this thats all. I’ve done well with Mai and Hibiki but I have to work too hard for the win. I have not seen a good Athena anywhere. Arturo was using her at MWC in casual but she got beatdown. I still think they are not that good compared to the rest of the SNK guys I mentioned earlier. I only see good Hibiki’s in A groove by the way too.
Keep posting stuff, this is informative.
