You’re doing god’s work @BixHD .
After this speedrun of G League by Xiao Hai I think everyone will want to study his matches. That man is on fire, good lord. Even I that know Cammy’s strings pretty well got lost and couldn’t follow what he was doing. Amazing indeed.
I Just posted some sets where I lost looking for feedback. Don’t mind the salt and the talking lol. Thank You in advance.

Hey here’s some tech.
First one was from Cobelcog described this once on his stream.
This one is an application on the tech I got from James Chen Twitter.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2i8cl5uLrY
With the first one your can do cr.mp vskill cr.mp as a meaty
Whoops, didn’t realise these videos got posted already due to the spoilertag. Move along, move along.
Just so I don’t completely waste my post: I’d find it so much fun if the game went down the “I’ll get counterhit on purpose” route.
Well this explains so much about counter hits whiffing, but I think it’s stupid. A counter hit is to be rewarded not punished. I’m on the side of fixing this.
Well until then let’s all start mashing c.short on wakeup instead of c.jab is the moral of the story.
I think stLP push you back the same as crLK. But wake up stLP is better if they mistime the meaty since you can combo into stMP crMK xx SA.

Hey all, looking for some help for general gameplay and also against Zangief. I’ll list some notes of what I was thinking (or trying to do) at certain times.
I did not read the MU section for Gief before this match :s and I rarely play against him. My initial gameplan was - Stay away, once in a while go in for an attack, stay away some more and hope he randomly does a lariat or charge punch so I can SA him.
Some in match thoughts…
:45 - I can’t believe I got Air to Aired, his elbow was so far away…I’m a little pissed
1:32 - Meaty was too early
1:37 - I got CA’d on his wake up. I’m pissed and I’m mashing CA on my wake up
2:10 - I did Hooligan and I wanted to drill with my VT, but he popped his VT when I pressed kick, so nothing came out
:44 - Either an input error for SA or I thought the DP would connect.
1:04 - Dropped combo
2:25 - Input error, got st. HK instead of SA
2:28 - Dropped combo
2:43 - I think that’s the first st. MP I connected with the whole match, so I wasn’t expecting it to hit.
Aside from execution, I’m not seeing what else I could’ve/should’ve done.
Why is everyone from MURICA? I would play with people to help them! (since this works better for me,than videos) But everyone who needs help is from America.
You do way to many raw Arrows
I haven’t seen a single st.mk
st.hk is your go to anti-air against Zangief
walk more forward and back
whiffpunish st.hp with st.hp or cr.mk into M Arrow on max range for best damage and a nice setup.
If you know he will mash CA,neutraljump on his wakeup, his CA catches backdashs for some reasons.
You jump waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much.
Pressure? He clearly mashed the whole time SPD after you hit him,you could have abused this easaly.
@greenwood Spiral arrows to get in from afar creates high risk/low reward situations. Even when you hit gief it did the same damage as a much safer st mk would have done so why not move closer and poke with st mk? Yes you get the knockdown, but if they block it and your spacing is not perfect you are going to take huge damage. I would only rely on using it from afar to punish moves you know it will hit on. Like Rashids fireball, Birdies Chain, Chun’s sweep etc.
Here are some things of note. You have much better mobility then gief. At a distance you want to be moving in and out of his max range (you were much too far away). This is to get him to try and either charge HP you which you can walk back make him whiff and punish with St Hp into SA, jump in which you can st hk CH into CS, or hop knee in which you can make whiff and punish with st hp into SA or sometimes catch with St HK CH. If he starts trying to walk into closer ranges you can use st mk or cr mk buffered into SA to keep him out (these should be performed at max ranges, if he is closer than max range of those kics switch to st mp, st hp strings (4 frame gap) as the jab will win every time to those pokes at closer ranges). Sometimes his jab will catch you in this range as they mash it out but you can ignore it and just walk back to reset the position to where you are at their max range. If he starts throwing in sweeps prepare to block low and punish after with cr mk SA, or just SA. The other thing to look out for is dash ins to grab or some other button. It takes good reactions but when you see the dash try to catch it with a jab or cr mp before he can get anything out.
Now once you have him knocked down you can bully him. He has no wake up reversal besides his CA so you only need to be careful when he has that and just bait it. Usually by hitting him with SA and then dashing forward they will try and do it like this Gief did so after the dash just jump straight up. Neutral jump works wonders to blow up Giefs that like to grab. Anyway back to bullying him. When you get the knockdown is when you get to go to work as you have advantage and can bully him with meaty setups, frame traps, and grabs. Most Giefs will want to jab which is only 4 frames, so pretty much any frame trap will work here. I noticed you mistimed a few of your meatys and it was because you were relying on your timing it rather than setups. The first one you missed is because you didn’t dash after the SA, the second one is because you used st mp on his back recovery when you should have been doing f+hk. I’m not saying you can’t do it without the setups but you will need to practice it a lot to where it’s literally 100% before you’ll want to be using it as a reliable tactic in a match. Playing as Cammy is so unforgiving. One whiffed meaty is 40% life easy. Anyway after you catch Gief on a few of his wake ups with either meatys or frame traps they will finally stop mashing jab. This is when you start throwing in st lk to grab setups. If they start teching the grabs then start walking in then back out after SA and hit st hp to catch their late tech. Doing a jab to V-skill will also catch them late teching. Once you get a Gief in the corner it is hell for them. Keep them locked down with frame traps, grabs, st mk and anti airs. Only thing you have to worry about is his CA and an ex spd if you go for a grab and he reads it.
Things you don’t want to do against Gief is jump in from afar (neutral jumps when you think they are going to grab you are ok and recommended). He has a good anti air jab, lariat and a move of armor to eat your hit and blow you up after. In certain situations you can cross him over, but you have to hit the lk really late on the other side as he is so tall. You also don’t want to be a stationary target or light on the buttons. If you turtle up during his strings he will just grab you. Things they do a lot is hop knee to SPD, or jab to SPD. If you are stationary or not playing footsies to keep him out he’ll just dash in and ex SPD you. Most peoples reaction to a dash in is to late tech but gief is throw invincible when he does EX SPD. The damage and stun on this move is huge so you have to be on your toes. I’ve lost so many times to dash in EX SPD, followed up by another dash in EX SPD to get to stunned. After everything is all said and done it’s like 700 damage so I can’t stress this enough to learn to catch the dash in. (Fing 8 frames)
Last thing of note is his v-trigger. If he activates it raw let him suck you in (I know some won’t agree with this, but you want him to burn it as fast as possible so you don’t have to worry about getting caught while poking. The thing lasts forever). Just hold down back and watch his arms spin. If they stop before it pushes you out mash jab (you can do jab jab into SA if you have good reactions). If he stops the move in between it is at the least -3. Now if the arms don’t stop it will push you back out, but he will have a little more trigger left. This is when they try to bait a button and suck you in to get huge damage. Just wait it out and let him suck you in again.
This match up requires you to have good reactions so you can whiff punish pokes, proper meaty timing setups, and the ability to read the opponents tendency to want to grab. If you can check off all three of those gief will not be a problem for you. When the game first came out giefs weren’t a problem, but now I’m seeing more and more giefs that are really scary.
I forgot to add something about dive kicks. EX divekick is a way to easily get in and apply pressure if you want, however in this match up I believe the CA is essential to deal with his large health pool and since we have good options to get in from afar on Gief with st hp xx SA or cr mk XX SA I’d suggest saving it or using it only when nearly full stocked. The thing about EX divekick is it is the only move that can really beat giefs jab. So if you see them mashing that out a lot after you finish a string it is a good thing to use to catch them. Standard dive kick is too slow and can put you in a really dangerous position if they block as you will be around -2 and can’t tech their SPD.
