HK Spiral Arrow Safe Jump
I’m definitely cashing in with some of those. Thanks for making.
I’m going to start doing match analyses on my youtube site. Before I open it up to others, I wanted to ask, if anyone here would like to have their videos featured and analyzed? Win or lose, doesn’t matter. If you’re you’re interested, please don’t hesitate to send me a message.
Definitely. I am always looking for feedback. Are you looking for individual matches, FT2, FT3?
Ft3 is the limit, but if it’s a FT2, that’s fine also. Do you have a file of the video?

went to my first tournament for SFV. Got destroyed by Nash. The first thing I see is me being completely outclassed in footsies and not getting enough momentum from my offense. I’m not surprised I lost, I’m just kind of disappointed, you know? Is my neutral game my biggest flaw?
You always play a little more nervous at tournaments so I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself. It looks like you weren’t pressuring to get in, you were more worried about trying to catch his neutral buttons which doesn’t work too well against Nash. Except for maybe St hp which you used successfully later in the games. You did have some issues in the neutral game where you weren’t spacing things right though. At the beginning you start trying to fish with st. mk that wouldn’t hit anything and he realizes that so he uses the recovery to get jump ins on you a lot. If you had gotten in closer before using the st. mk you would have stopped him from jumping or doing anything for that matter. At that point most nash’s want to dash back to get space, so all you have to do is remain calm, move slightly forward safely until you can st mk again, and wait for the idiot to put himself in the corner or jump/dash. While slowing moving forward all you should be thinking about is he going to jump on me or dash forward/back. They sometimes throw out scythes to push you back, but if you are moving forward safely it will be hard to get caught. Just keep repeating with pressure until they are in the corner. If they do jump or air slash at you (like this guy was doing a lot) you either b+mp or st. hk (CS) or CS depending upon the range. The slash is easily beat by b+mp and is really easy to dash cross under (I noticed you didn’t dash under once). My point is he got a lot of slashes/jump ins on you because you were trying to look for the neutral when you weren’t even in range to hit him with anything. If you moved into range then hit st mk to push him back, or moved in and waited for air slash or jump you would have faired far better imo as after that you would have been in his face. With how many kicks he was throwing out randomly I’d even suggest st hp buffered into spiral arrow to try and catch them to get the knock down for a meaty setup.
Couple of things I noticed. You tend to EX divekick with no apparent setup. Round two starts, you have a full stick of butter and you just throw it out. He had no reason to stand there so he just dashes back. You did this several times through the match. I’m assuming because of your frustration in the neutral and not being able to get in, but you have to set it up. Use it after your string when psychologically he wants to hit a button because he thinks it’s his turn. Watch the match you’ll see it hits every time after he blocks a few of your hits first.
You were sorely lacking in grab attempts (especially in the corner) and that is where I think you really lost this game. It feels like you repeated the same strings over and over. Throw in some tick throws. I did notice he was jabbing a lot so it seems scary but use meatys/frame traps to blow that shit up. The thing is you have to teach him when to press jab and he isn’t going to if you are always doing long strings when he blocks rather than just jab grab. I think the few hits you did get off of him were shimmys on wake up where he thought you were going to grab because you didn’t do a blockstring. Anyway vary it up is what I mean. Start with tick grab on first blocked attempt, then do st mp to cr mp on second blocked attempt, then do cr mp, cr mp on third blocked, then do jab into v-skill on forth blocked, etc. Basically don’t let me him know what you are going to do on every string. You have to keep them thinking, but use what they told you if you do get hit with a jab. That means repeat that string but with a 4 frame gap next time st lp to st mp instead of st lp grab the next time. If they tech every grab attempt, that means switch to shimmy setups to beat their delayed techs they are mashing.
Last thing of note. It is ok to neutral jump over fireballs. You jumped in every time and he punished. If you’re unsure of what to do it’s a good idea to take a step back and see what he does. If he starts spamming fireballs, then time a jump in. If he dashes forward throw out a buffered cr. mk into SA. I’ve just realized chasing down Nashes gets you destroyed in most cases. They want you to follow, but if you push them they don’t know what to do. Get the knockdown, apply pressure on their wake up, bully them to death in the corner.
Overall though man, for your first tourney, I think you did well. I tend to play horrible at tournaments. I get nervous and anxious which makes me drop combos or react differently than I normally would. You can analyze your games all day and think I should have done this or that, but other than all the dive kicks and hesitant pokes you weren’t playing that bad. I’m sure it’s not that you don’t know this stuff it’s more of learning how to access it when you need it. You just have to keep putting yourself in those positions until it feels natural. It’s the struggle we all face.
I’ll just leave this here:

Another video from East. I have no idea how he combos the HP after the MK at the end. Must be hitting the jab late giving you enough time to punish as I didn’t think it was possible to combo those even on counter hit. Looks awesome just wish I could pull it off in a game.

s.MK is +2 if you hit on the first active frame. It has 3 active frames. The setup in the video always hits on the last active frame, so it becomes +4 [makes it +1 on block also]. It’s also counter-hitting which adds another +2 frames, making it +6.
No one mashes jab against me ; )

Your close game looks pretty good. The problem was getting in. During the neutral game, you stood at kind of a weird range. You played at a range where Ken didn’t have a reason to press buttons. He just stood there waiting for your jump/hooligan/spin knuckle. I think you need to walk up more. Jumps are fine if Ken’s busy worrying about dash throw or your other scary buttons.
