There’s no reason for you to ever get SPD’ed as cammy. Never spam (HK)Spiral Arrows on Gief because he will SPD for free. Never jump in (stupidly) either since his Lariat will destory.
You need to do some guerilla warfare on Gief. Throw out a safe SA (LK preferably) and see what he does. High C.strike jump in to counter Lariat. Random LP SBF to bait something out of him. Once he’s on the ground you can tool him pretty efficiently but getting that first knockdown you’ll need to dart in and out fast with your attacks and dashes. Force a mistake.
I don’t really have any set in stone strategy for Zangief except for throwing out mk and hk as long range pokes while edging back and forward to try and chip away at him, also I try and use jump HK from its max possible range. LK Spiral Arrow to try and bait a lariet then punish if he does. You can punish a blocked green hand with a cannon spike. Most important thing is if you see him jumping towards you either cannon spike him or get out of there!
I played my friend’s Zangief the past couple of days and used HK SA FADC TK Cannon Strike, its worked as hes pretty throw happy so the strike avoided the throw, he could just have easily done a lariet though. I find I build up my ex meter more against Zangief instead of using ex moves, quite often enough for a super, thats useful to land. If you buffer your ultra with :d: :df: repeatedly once you have it you can easily punish a green hand on reaction.
I have used parts of the three guides given and Zangief is now being repeatedly defeated.
I have stopped overusing (spamming) spiral arrow and have mixed a few cannon spikes in and Zangief does not know what to do with them.
Staying out of his throw range and staying on the ground - Sounds obvious but I am surprised at how much I was doing it. I am not getting green handed anymore.
Thanks to the advice defeating Zangief is now “Mission Complete.”
This is going to sound like a silly question but is the Spinning knuckle a viable move? I can’t seem to hit anyone apart from Fuerte with it?
I recall it being a strange move in “Super Street Fighter 2” and it seems to have been made worse here.
No, Spin knuckle is not a viable move. I use the move once in a while to get out of corners. I don’t trust EX either. Faux and I were messing around with focus attacks, and I was able to hit Faux with a LVL 2 Focus Attack WHILE HE WAS USING EX. Garbage move, I say.
I’ve been making SBF part of my game for weeks and I feel comfortable now thinking it is almost entirely useless. Occasionally throwing out lp versions from across the screen is good for baiting, sometimes I hit wakeup srks, as the hit box on it much like her cspikes, is deceptively big. Never use it when the opponent has ultra, the startup is so slow anyone can see it coming.
Lol I did the same thing. I lost a lot of GP when I tried to implement this into my game…
Hey quick question. Okay, so I’ve gotten to be pretty good with the whole C.spike FADC Ultra. I have a couple of questions though. Against certain characters, if I do this move when they’re cornered, my gyro drive smasher goes right under the opponent.
Is this character specific? So far, I remember yelling at the TV when I did this to a Ryu, and a C. Viper at a local tournament. I had the 30 people watching me go “OOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” and then a second later, “AWWWWWWWW…”
Is this distance specific? I don’t really think it’s my spacing… I can hit some characters when I have them completely cornered, and others not so much.
Is it timing specific? Maybe if I did it a little slower…? I dunno. I tried this a few times, but I can’t get the timing down.
I’m pretty sure its timing specific and a little distance specific as well. You have to slightly lag the ultra input because you have to wait for the opponents’ body to fall to juggle them. The reason being is because the distance is much shorter in the corner as opposed to doing the FADC ultra in open space where the opponents’ body falls further away. In the corner they would just fall straight downward. It is possible to do it in the corner, the timing is just different.
I got to fight my first vega online today. How does one block his attacks or ultra? He keeps flying around the screen, and he can push me half a screen when I turtle. o.O
As for his ultra block high. His sky claw you can either FA and just backdash or cannon spike it once the move gets to a certain point. The wall dive throw I am not sure how to avoid in all honesty besides backdashing, though I heard staying crouched works for that one like hooligan not sure if that’s true or not, I don’t see many people using Vega.
Stay on the ground most of the time vs Vega. Any blocked Wall dives can be punished by SA or Ultra (including his ultra if blocked).
The other way is to air throw his air shenanigans, but this one is more difficult requires good timing for both the jump and the throw.
C strike is your main weapon against him. Cstrike against his legs and FA against his long pokes.
One trap Vega like to set for people is to make you chase him… DON’T. Keep the pressure but if he escapes, just let him, he can’t do much to you either.
You want to keep pressure on Vega, he has no answer other then to keep blocking and hope for a reversal window. His Scarlet Terror flash-kick thingy has poor priority and doesn’t work well if you’re close, say, for a dive kick. A good Vega will stay on the ground vs Cammy, CSpike takes care of the walldive game very handily.
Do NOT FA his wall-dives. When I see my opponent doing this, I know it’s free damage. This will work against players who don’t know spacing/timing. Vega can Izuna Drop you right out of your FA. Ideally you just want to time a CSpike to knock him out of the air, or do a neutral jump into air-throw. If you’re not familiar with the matchup and don’t know the timing/spacing on walldives, your best option is to just not be there when he gets close to the ground. Either dash out, or do a lk spiral arrow to gain distance.
His Ultra his horrible. Just block, high or low, doesn’t matter. You can CSpike him out of it if you’re confident about your timing. If you see Vega has Ultra and is on the other side of the screen, WALK over, don’t start jumping to him, he can catch you mid-air with the Ultra.
When you’ve been knocked down, watch out for a crossup EX Sky High Claw, this is something Vega players love to throw out, it works surprisingly often. Just be ready to block the other direction and punish with spiral arrow. Any normal SHC can be punished by spiral arrow on block, and I’m pretty sure even on hit (not positive).
